Diego "the guv'nor" Costa

Featured Replies

What did he do that was so bad today ? The defenders were just as guilty as he was. The guy get's pushed and grabbed by defenders all of the time, but because he is a striker that likes to give it back to them it's somehow wrong is it ? Since the first game of the season Diego Costa has been treated like the guilty one by the refs, but most replay's show that he has been hard done by. The dives that he is supposed to have done aren't dives and when he get's booked by the refs, it's usually because he pushed a defender off him when another defender has been pushing and grabbing him.

If the refs would do their jobs and actually penalise the defenders for grabbing and pushing Diego Costa, then Deigo Costa wouldn't react to them. I don't see how it is fair that Diego Costa is always the one punished when he is just doing the same things that the refs let the defenders get away.

Grabbed a defender around the head and was lucky not to get sent off himself, and it was his f**king around that led to us going down to 10 men.

He wasn't as bad at the start of the season because he was scoring all the time, as the goals started to dry up a bit he's become more and more confrontational to the point where every single game that he plays you just know he's going to do something stupid like that and cause us problems.

Well the defenders were pushing and grabbing him. The ref wouldn't get them off him so he tried to get them off him himself. I blame the refs for not doing something about the defenders.

A certain amount of pushing and shoving and shirt pulling is to be expected, most other players get on with it without nearly getting themselves sent off every game.

Don't agree in this instance.

The defender is standing there doing his job, keeping his arms out to prevent Costa getting a run on from any potential crosses. This happens all the time and does not warrant the response from Costa which is to grab the defender's head/shove his arm into the defenders face. Then they break off and go at it again, this time with both of them at fault.

without his goals no title - simple as that

he's not going anywhere, so get used to it or go watch lawn bowling, its very serene with practically zero 'female reproductive organs'  giving it the needle and afters

to deliberately ruin any viewing enjoyment

He will never change.

It's always likely he is going to get sent off because he can't control his emotions. Wasn't his fault that Cesc got sent off but he made that situation occur.

It's annoying because I can't defend him but at the same time admire his talent.

Love him, quality striker, hope he plays every minute of next season, hope he continues to give what he takes from his markers.

This time last year i would never agree with you, but my opinion of Diego Costa has completely changed.

Very rarely does he pull anything that is unprovoked, the only people that think he's some sort of monster are those who either never watch him or sky commentators.

Some West Brom defenders were doing more than shirt pulling....Holding grappling etc...The press were up in arms about it earlier in the season but that was when Cahill was at it...Costa is always going to be a target because of how he reacts, its bound to cost us dear next season but last night I was too drunk to care.

in many ways he's the opposite of our former nr 1 striker Torres,

too little / too much,

need a good second striker next season, to deal with the amount of bans / injuries he will get,

would go for Benteke... same type of player, to strengthen our air force when we need to drop balls over our 'park-the-bus-opponents'

He really needs to cut out all the petty squabbles he gets into. I didn't see anything wrong with the challenge he was complaining about. If anything at all, he was the instigator. He is not helping his image and that of the club, and is constantly on the verge of a red card. Jose has to talk to him.

Do you really think that if Diego Costa was to stop all of this our image would improve ? People hate us, that isn't going to change no matter what we do.

It's good to finally have a striker who is a real presence, but I have to admit I'm getting a little sick of Costa as well.

There have been plenty of good strikers who aren't pussy's and on the other hand aren't as agressive as Costa. If he could find a better balance I believe he'd score more and be less annoying.

Costa came into the league with a reputation so defenders are trying to push his buttons on purpose to provoke him. He is kicked and fouled all match but gets on with it, but when he gives a little back the referee penalises him for it because of his previous reputation. I am not saying he is an angel but he is being made out to look a hell of a lot worse than he actually is.

I love the fight and passion he has for the game brilliant to see, he does overstep the mark sometimes but his ability as a footballer is unquestionable, we haven't seen the best of him IMO he has been carrying a lot of niggles/injurys and a lack of fitness I can't wait to see what he can do when he is fit and healthy.

I don't really like Adrian Durham but he's really sticking up for us for what happened last night. He is saying Costa was once again not protected by the refs and that West Brom players were putting in bad tackles on him and the rest of our players. He also said the Fabregas red card was ridiculous and that refs are crazy to come out and try and say that that was violent conduct. He also thinks that Darren Fletcher was more out of order than Fabregas.

I agree with him. Diego Costa get's kicked, pushed and grabbed every single game and he is the one getting punished for it. Anybody who watches football and has an honest opinion can see that our players aren't getting the protection from refs that other clubs are getting. And everyone knows how i feel about the Fabregas red card.

Dan_cfc and Scott, agree with you both entirely. If Costa was allowed to play, the goading and fouling of him properly checked, he would be something else. I've said before he's like the kid at school who had a bad rep and the authority figures won't let him forget it. Jose is the caring, maverick teacher who turns them around by believing and supporting.

What a signing, what a player.

I honestly think Diego is brilliant. Yeah so what that he gets angry during the match? Rather that than a player who walks around showing no passion and sulks. We knew about his reputation before he signed here and to me that's what makes him the player he is.

I was discussing this yesterday about him, you think it's him that gets wound up but actually, he pretty much wound up the whole of West Brom's defence. Making stupid challenges, and he got 3 of them booked. They lose concentration because they're more involved in trying to wind him up than actually playing the game which is where he leaves the space for the likes of Hazard and Fabregas.

He doesn't get enough protection from referees, that is clearly obvious but I would not trade him for anyone because every time he is on that pitch, he is basically at war with the opponent. Committment and passion, exactly what a Mourinho player has in abundance.

I mean, look how he reacted when Willian scored against Everton and how he was throwing hand gestures and getting proper into the game, very much like a fan. This is the sort of player I want at Chelsea Football Club, not the Raheem Sterling type.

I must be missing something about Costa. On Sky they're always saying how he's such a risk as he loses his cool... but he's not had a red card for us yet has he? Plenty of yellows, but no reds. which tells me he knows how to play the game, and wind opponents up without going overboard. yes it gets a bit nasty at times, but he never really does anything worthy of a red, just a bit of argy-bargy and squaring up. dont see him being a big risk of red cards, so dont understand the fuss that gets caused around him
