August 18, 20169 yr If Diego doesn't go for the ball there people will call him lazy and say he isn't bothered. He chases down a keeper and forces him into a mistake, had he been half a second quicker and poked it into the net would you still be saying that? The ball was there to be won and he did the right thing. No winning sometimes. Spot on.
August 18, 20169 yr At that time Diego got it very wrong. Accident, but wrong. When I saw it my head dropped because I was sure it is another yellow. Ref got it wrong.
August 18, 20169 yr At that time Diego got it very wrong. Accident, but wrong. When I saw it my head dropped because I was sure it is another yellow. Ref got it wrong. Yes he got it absolutely wrong and deserved a booking all day long but hard to blame his attempt.. any player, let alone striker, would have the urge to go for it under that circumstances.. If there's 1 occasion where I won't be mad with him getting sent off, this is 1 of them..
August 18, 20169 yr I am no fan of Diego but I dont think he was in the wrong there. Any striker in the world would have gone for that ball. He simply tried to go for the ball. I think the ref got it right. Diego's intentions were on the ball. He was not a second late, he was barely half a second late, going for the ball right in front of the goal. Football is a physical game and sometimes u will have such tackles, the most important thing is the "intent" there. There is much worse things like shirt pulling and actually hug holding players during corners which are way worse, where the intent is not anywhere near to play the ball.
August 18, 20169 yr Before him we haven't had a single striker that would have put that pressure on a keeper since drogba, and I know which type I prefer.
August 18, 20169 yr At that time Diego got it very wrong. Accident, but wrong. When I saw it my head dropped because I was sure it is another yellow. Ref got it wrong. Did you think that at full speed and without any replays I certainly didn't, yes on watching slow mo replays he catches him a little high but at full speed I was much more worried about kante's tackle than costas
August 18, 20169 yr Adriano mad a meal of it, Diego had every right to try & nick the ball, the ref was bad all over the park, nothing changes with the officials and the new respect rule just gives them more leeway to make bad calls
August 18, 20169 yr Costa had to try and win the ball in that situation, but it is still a yellow becyse he didnt get there. It was an honest attempt to win the ball, pity it has been blown out proportion, and carrols dive, and 2 clear cut penaltys denied, have been swept under the rug.
August 19, 20169 yr If Carroll hit Courtois in the shin like that we'd be calling for his head let alone yellow card. Yes, but regardless I'd be surprised if Caroll didn't do the same thing, I can't believe we have people criticising Costa for trying to close down the keeper, that's what he's supposed to do, this sport has gotten so soft. I hate the fact you can't even show your emotions as a player any more. Ref could take it wrong and card you. However, Costa's tackle was a yellow any time of the era, day and night. AND he was on a yellow most importantly.

August 19, 20169 yr 25 View comments Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has admitted Chelsea striker Diego Costa was his No 1 transfer target this summer. The Argentine was keen to bring former Atletico hitman Costa back to Spain, revealing his new £24million signing Kevin Gameiro was a back-up option. 'The club worked on the possibility of Diego Costa's arrival and after that did not advance, we were always very clear with Gameiro. Always,' Simeone told Spanish programme Espacio Reservado. Costa moved from Atletico to Chelsea following a hugely successful spell in the Spanish capital for a fee of £32m in July 2014. His future at Stamford Bridge was unclear earlier this summer but with new Blues boss Antonio Conte keen to keep hold of the striker, Costa stayed put. It scuppered any hopes Simeone had of bringing him back to the Vicente Calderon, with the Argentine adding: 'When I spoke on the phone with him (Gameiro), I told him we wanted to bring Costa and he was the alternative. 'I bet entirely on him and he wanted to be the forward to join us this year.' Atletico reached last season's Champions League final, once again falling just short against city rivals Real Madrid. They also finished third in La Liga, and have high hopes of pushing Real and Barcelona close again this term. Despite missing out on Costa, Simeone is excited about what Gameiro can bring to his side. Gameiro scored 29 goals for Sevilla last season, helping them to a third consecutive Europa League title. 'Kevin is an explosive player and a player we need in the final third because he plays forward, especially in tight spaces and reads his team-mates' movements well,' Simeone said. Gameiro will add to Atletico's forward options alongside the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Fernando Torres. 'He's different. Fernando is a player for longer spaces, while Gameiro is the opposite,' Simeone added. 'The competition between them will give us possibilities and what better than for a team to contain variety? 'This year I can imagine a situation of better growth than I had last year. Griezmann has talent but with Gameiro and Fernando I think we are very good offensively.'
August 19, 20169 yr http://www.thesportreview.com/tsr/2016/08/stats-show-chelseas-diego-costa-committed-less-fouls-than-man-utd-forward/? It doesn't prove anything that stat. Does it take into account minutes played to amass those fouls ? And where is the card count per minutes played ? Who has been suspended the longest ?
August 19, 20169 yr Author Clear from today's press conference that Conte, unlike some of our fans, loves Diego and the way he approaches the game. Conte: "Me and Diego are both passionate, it’s true. I risked in my past sometimes to be banned." Conte: "We all know Diego, he is a passionate footballer. Sometimes it seems he is always on the edge, but he is a good guy and player. Diego puts his passion into football when he plays. I am happy about his behaviour. We know he must pay attention."
August 19, 20169 yr Nobody in the club is denying, and never has, how great of a person he is. Sometimes his passion just leads him to places that doesn't help the team. I love most of what he does but will absolutely not back him when he acts like an idiot.

Let's see if he still feels the same at Christmas, I loved him at first, till I had enough of watching panto and craved to watch footy again.

August 19, 20169 yr He wasn't half a second quicker. It wasn't on purpose to hit his leg but why take the risk.... Because he wanted to score a goal to help the team win.
August 19, 20169 yr He plays a football as it should be, a contact sport, with a few rufflinngs of feathers.....
August 19, 20169 yr Its hard to not to like this guy lol lol Take a look at @ChelseaFC's Tweet: https://twitter.com/ChelseaFC/status/766624614923571200?s=09 Edited August 19, 20169 yr by Brutos
August 19, 20169 yr Costa should be compared with Shearer, he wasn't affraid to put it about, was a quite nasty striker at times, like Big Dunc, love those type, Even Rooney was a bit norty.....
August 19, 20169 yr He plays a football as it should be, a contact sport, with a few rufflinngs of feathers..... ... but he doesn't take it so well when he is being rufflinged. Not really a hard man, more of whiner much of the time. Needs to watch some Hughsie videos. A proper hard man.
