That's pure and simple wishful thinking this year. The argument that City collapse after a few opening games is old and tired. If football repeated every year there'd only have ever been one title winner. They've invested massively yet again and their manager has had a season of acclimatisation. And scoring 6 or 7 goals a game isn't a fluke. They will win the league this year and there's no doubt about it. United are probably the only side who will be mathematically be in with shout come the new year. Still can't believe that Mourinho binned DeBruyne off for having the temerity to be young and confident. Having said that, there's more to City than DeBruyne (and they'd have bought someone else if not him) and it's fair to say that DeBruyne isn't the difference between us being ok and great. It's a team game after all. But a great squad with lots of great players make a hell of a difference. Edited October 15, 20178 yr by Snedger

October 16, 20178 yr Only saw the last half hour of Liverpool v Man United on Saturday. Both teams didn't seem to be that impressive and looked as if they were both happy to take a point. Edited October 16, 20178 yr by erskblue spelling

Last season we lost to Arsenal (A), Pool (H), Spurs (A), United (A) and drew to Pool (H). In top 6, we played 10 games, Lost 4, Drew 1, Won 5. Not a great record, and yet we walked the league, because we just killed the "small" teams.

Jesus, it was a joke alluding to the common accusation that Lukaku only scores against small teams which I made before we played Palace. Football is banter like that.

October 17, 20178 yr Mourinho throwing another hissyfit because Utd wont spend another billion on players. Hes been there for just 1 and a half seasons and already spent over 200m so whats his problem?

October 17, 20178 yr http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/41650543 League One side Shrewsbury Town hope to have safe standing in place before the end of the season after reaching their crowdfunding target. The club has raised more than £65,000 and would be the first in the English Football League to have safe standing. Chief executive Brian Caldwell believes Shrewsbury will be the "flagship club" in tackling the issue. "Safe standing has been something fans have campaigned to see introduced for many years," Caldwell said. Celtic's safe standing explained "We will now continue to work closely with our local Safety Advisory Group to gain the necessary certification for the safe standing area and hope to have supporters watching home games from the safe standing area before the end of the season. "As one of the few clubs with an all-seater ground able to introduce a rail seating section, Shrewsbury Town will now lead the way in making the case for a change in policy and adding a standing option to the match-day experience for all clubs and fans." Richard Conway explains Shrewsbury Town's plans for safe standing Shrewsbury applied to have safe standing at their Montgomery Waters Meadow stadium in June, with rail seats fitted in one section of the Salop Leisure Stand by the end of the 2017-18 season. The ground is 10 years old so is not governed by the all-seater stadiums legislation that permits clubs in Leagues One and Two to keep terraces that existed before 1994. Shrewsbury Town Supporters' Parliament led the campaign to install about 400 rail seats in partnership with the club and sports fanfunding specialists Tifosy and had contributions from almost 1,000 fanfunders. Roger Groves of the Shrewsbury Town Supporters' Parliament said: "This is a remarkable achievement by the hundreds of fans and sponsors, especially FansBet, who have paved the way for the thousands more to bring standing back to match days at their clubs. "I am very proud that Shrewsbury Town has been at the heart of this." EFL chief executive Shaun Harvey said: "I am pleased that Shrewsbury Town has successfully sourced the necessary funding to support the proposed installation of rail seating. "I know the campaign has benefitted from a strong community effort and I congratulate the club's supporters, as well as those from other clubs that have contributed. "The EFL is committed to seeking a change in the law that will give all of our clubs the same opportunity to install standing accommodation at their grounds should they wish. "We are keen to see how the installation enhances the match-day experience at Shrewsbury Town and we hope it provides evidence we can take to government to support our objective." Hopefully Shrewsbury get the go-ahead for safe-standing and other clubs, including us, follow them.
October 17, 20178 yr An undeserved penalty for Real Madrid, Aurier was sliding but he did to avoid Kroos's kick, he didn't go towards the legs.
October 17, 20178 yr From behind it didn't look like a penalty to me, but when they showed the tackle from the front it seemed to me that Aurier hit the shin of Kroos, so penalty. I would have to see it repeated again. This image i think shows it is a penalty.
October 17, 20178 yr Aurier could cost Tottenham a lot of points this season. He got himself sent off the other day and now he gives away a stupid penalty.
October 17, 20178 yr Eriksen has been poor tonight for Tottenham, it's like the occasion is affecting him. He keep's playing poor passes and makes the wrong decision. If he was playing at his best, i think Tottenham would be winning this.
October 17, 20178 yr Aurier had a very good game, I still believe it wasn't a penalty but the game is over. Good result for Spurs, English teams are showing a good opening.

If none get to the semi final again this year, then it would be a big underachievement.
October 17, 20178 yr Spurs looked great tonight. Davinson Sanches looks like a very good defender. Will have a great career alongside Alderweireld.
October 17, 20178 yr There really is a big decline in Spanish football atm, not to take away anything from Spurs of course. It was the same for us against Atletico, we looked brilliant but Atletico also look weaker to what they did before. I always wondered if FFP would do the opposite of helping modern football if teams like PSG & City can keep bypassing FFP laws with loopholes, it's become a whole political situation. Not that I completely sympathise with the Spaniards as they were funded by the Government for years. But if City & PSG can go on spending 200 million a season regardless of losses the future of football is going to look pretty grim I reckon.
October 17, 20178 yr Niche nearest and dearest but went to the Shrews match tonight and they absolutely walked it. 4 up at half time and just went into 2nd gear for the 2nd half. Top of the league and beginning to dream of Championship football. Unbelievable after being favourites for relegation - I guess a bit like Leicester a couple of seasons back - I hope it ends the same

October 19, 20178 yr If we’re not gonna win the title I’m glad Man City will do it. They play attractive attacking football unlike some.
October 19, 20178 yr Quote "I have to watch what I say, but it's [having] a bit of cojones, is what I'll say. Whenever I play against Arsenal, I'll go up and think 'let me whack the first one and see who wants it.' "I came on today and jumped up with [Per] Mertesacker -- I didn't even have to jump, actually -- I nodded it down, the crowd gets up: 'Yeah we've got somebody who can win it,' and they all just backed off. "For me as a player, I just think 'happy days.' That's my strength -- if you're going to let me do my strength against you, you're going to have a tough afternoon. "I just think personally there's an element of that being an equaliser for me. I know I'm not technically gifted like they are, not as quick, but if you want to fight with me, I'm gonna beat you all day. "If you want to come into my world and do that, you can do that, but you've got to be at a level where your excellence of keeping the ball, being fast and getting in the right positions are all 10/10 because my equaliser is I'm big, strong, and I do all the ugly stuff you don't wanna do, and I'm going to make it horrible for you." LOL. What we're all thinking
