But obviously he gave up completely and finds himself where he is now. Last chance to do well on loan before we can sell him to recoup something, otherwise he'll just get another loan in the final year and leave for free, cementing being one of the worst transfers for us of all time. "Hold my beer"
January 8, 20206 yr Drinkwater is the prime example of big fish in the small pool player not making up the grade at a better team. We need to be careful in signing the so called squad players, either top players, or upcoming young players, not those in the middle

Signing squad players should be a thing of the past. You're either top class or have potential to be top class or we don't sign you.
January 8, 20206 yr I've watched a Burnley game lately where he started the game but was first subbed off at around 60 min. he was totaly anonymous and can't even remember that he touched the ball.

It's expected after playing one game a year if that. He's actually a good player, as demonstrated for Leicester, he just wasn't Chelsea level, but he is Premier League level.
January 12, 20206 yr I hope we've inserted a clause insisting that Danny absolutely must play in their game against us.

Only Rudiger turned out to be a good signing from that window. We may as well have just kept the players we sold / loaned. Loftus-Cheek would have gained great experience had he been given Bakayoko and Drinkwaters minutes.

Was the beginning of the end with Conte too. 160m pounds that we are desperately trying to shift off the books.

Thats one of the things im liking about Lampard so far, He would rather wait for the right players to come available and use what we have instead of just buying someone for the sake of it who isn't good enough. Ola Aina could of done Zappacosta job, Chalaboh could of done Drinkwater job and Loftus Cheek instead of Bakayako and kept all of that money.

January 15, 20206 yr Are you sitting down? Quote The 522 minutes that Danny Drinkwater played for Chelsea in the Premier League cost the club more than £50m over three years https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jan/14/chelsea-academy-new-generation-talent-on-the-way The article is worth reading.
March 11, 20206 yr "Aston Villa are considering ending Danny Drinkwater's loan spell after the midfielder was involved in a violent altercation with team-mate Jota. Drinkwater, who joined Villa on loan until the end of the season in January, headbutted Jota in training on Tuesday during an angry exchange with his colleague."
March 11, 20206 yr ^ Just came in to post the same thing. Being reported by a number of disreputable sources at the moment, although it wouldn't surprise me. What on earth is going on in his head? Seems like he needs some help.

March 11, 20206 yr Goes from bad to worse to even more worse for Danny with each passing week. What is going through his head?
March 11, 20206 yr Still boggles my mind how much we paid for this guy. Who at the club really thought that was a good idea?
