I think his future will be more certain next summer. If Hazard leaves he may take his place, and if Hazard stays we may sell Willian or Pedro to make room for him.

If Hazard leaves, we defo will buy a replacement. But CHO will have to compete with them. Hopefully he has signed a new contract by then.

  • 4 weeks later...

Bayern Munich are reported to have offered £13.5 million with Dortmund looking to bid too

surely we will not sell what is on of the brightest talents the club has produced ?

I have been fearing this for months now.

Can't think of anything worse that can happen to this current squad, sure it would be sad if Hazard leaves but this home grown talent is also priceless, nobody would be crazy enough to let him go even in football manager let alone real life...

In practice, to let go of a talent like this is done by poor clubs in poor countries that simply sell anything that is of any value, I would be mindblown if Chelsea sells him.

Why all the fuss about the academy then, if all the talent is either sold for nothing or wasted on loans forever and never given a chance...

The fact the club are even considering selling him probably tells you he has no intention of staying and will run down his contract, shame if he does go he's a huge talent but hasn't really showed enough to be starting week in week out and certainly won't be doing so at Bayern any time soon.

Two ageing wingers and Hazard with an uncertain future and we are letting the best prospect we have had in years go? That would be unbelieveable.

The timing isn’t brilliant but I can see why the club might reluctantly sell him, especially for £20m. With him refusing to sign a new deal, CHO is putting the club in an awkward position.

Whilst he has looked decent at times, he hasn’t had a massive impact compared to other young players - such as Rooney, Rashford, Sterling etc

We could put that £20m towards a first team player.

Only sell him if there's a buy back clause. With how the market is these days, CHO is effectively half a season of good form away from being worth over £100m.

He is just starting to get opportunities, I'm hoping we keep him around and he is persuaded to stay.

Paying the price for having no obvious career path into the senior team.

No one has established themselves in our team for twenty years now. As a young player you’d be looking at Chelsea and thinking, why bother?

CHO is going to possibly set a trend unless we start to change our ways.

I don't understand why the club don't just loan him out ffs. Have they not learned from their mistakes with Salah, KDB? I am one of his biggest fans, but I'm not a psychic. I don't know whether he will or will not become a world beater if he went to Bayern, but the fact that we are looking at somebody like Pulisic and possibly getting rid of Hudson-Odoi makes no sense. I'm more concerned that Roman has hired the wrong people and hasn't been looking at a football person for the board for a while now. The same mistakes are possibly about to be made by the board. I always thought the board will not back Sarri enough or buy the right players needed for the system, and I'm starting to think it's coming true again.

Please don't CH-O, rush to Bayern, stay and make my heart fly...

But enough Proclaimers references.

Wouldn't blame him if he does go, but equally the club can hardly guarantee him minutes - as should be the case with any player. Ideally we'd find a Prem loan, or upper Championship. But that can only happen if he signs a new deal, we can't risk losing him for nothing.

Selling one Bundesliga sub to buy another Bundesliga sub would feel like standing still, particularly when the former is a homegrown player. But the academy is basically a separate entity to the first team and has been throughout the Abramovich era. It exists to make money for Chelsea, rather than players for Chelsea. With Pedro and Willian not getting any younger, and Eden continuing to flirt with Real, we should be doing everything in our power to convince CH-O that one of those wide spots is his for the taking.

Not a hope in hell we sell him. He gets his first PL appearance (of many to come) and next minute he is off to Bayern?

Pulisic doesn't affect him as he will almost certainly replace one of Willian or Pedro and he plays on the opposite side.

He will be going to replace Ribery or Robben? Either way, those are very big shoes to fill. Not sure a club like Bayern are any more patient with young players than any other top club tbh. If he doesn't cut it in the side fast enough, I am sure he'll be replaced with a better player.

There aren't many obvious young Bundesliga wingers for Bayern to poach, certainly not in his age range. Most of the best young Germans coming through all play through the centre: Werner, Maier, Havertz, Arp, etc. I think he'd get solid minutes.

If we sell him, I will be seriously pissed and I will completely give up on seeing the day an academy player establishes themselves in this era of the club. The kid should be getting regular minutes here and now. I'm not saying he should be starting every game, but the odd cup game and European game only when we had already qualified is crap and waste of his talent.

Some young players just have it early in their career, they don't need a loan or to gain experience somewhere else first, and I think he is that good. One of Pedro or Willian should have been moved on in the summer and this guy should have taken one of their spots.

You don't see any other club handle their academy players like we do. I look at Loftus-Cheek, he scores a hat-trick in the Europa league, if that was any other team then he would have started the next game for sure, but what do we do? we leave him on the bench. Hudson-Odoi gets a goal and assist in Europe, he doesn't even make the bench in the next match! People will say "yeah, but it's against sh*t teams" but so what? It just so happens that the senior players are the ones playing against these so called sh*t teams too, and they couldn't do what the younger players did.

In all honesty, it's incredibly frustrating. I see these players of ours going out and contributing to the team when they get the chance, and then they get left out of the next game, then I see out of form players keep their place for playing poor. They should all be treated equal, but it never happens. The likes of Alonso, Willian, Morata, Giroud, they always get another chance when they play consistently poor, a young player plays well and they still get left out, and if they have one bad game then they are left out completely for months.

I'm hoping Sarri putting Hudson-Odoi on the field in the last league game was a sign to the board telling them that he wants to keep him.

Unfortunately its a sad fact of life at this club; as soon as a manager comes in they are immediately put under pressure to make the top 4 or win something; the only way they can have any hope of doing that is to select experienced players, and for the most part at least 1 year out of a 3 year contract they win something. Other teams, that while showing patience with managers and fostering young talent go without trophies for many years much to the dismay of the fans. We have been one of the most successful clubs in the EPL for the last 15 years, and I suspect it will continue long after the Hudson's and Ruben's have gone to play for other clubs.  We have let so many young players through slip through our fingers that collectively they would be a fine team EPL team I'm sure.  Football is now a business, we all know that; our club is perhaps more 'business' like than many others......and it seems to work.

Really frustrating. After a brilliant pre-season and starting the CS against City, was just completely abandoned. He should of been playing in the cup games but we persisted with the same wingers over and over again. He only started in the Europa League once our qualification and top spot was sealed. What message does that send out to him? On top of that when we played Derby in the cup we played RLC on the wing and left a natural winger in CHO on the bench who did not even come on. Then you see the likes of Smith-Rowe at Arsenal who is not on the same level as CHO, playing for Arsenal in the cups and Europa League and playing well. The lack of appearances for arguably our biggest talent out of the academy requires explanation. Especially when you see no contract has been signed. Looks like he is off and will be really hurt to see this happen.

Exactly, we've done this to ourselves with how we sack managers and don't give them stability, what manager would be stupid enough to take such risks?

I would rather give him more first-team minutes and have Willian come off the bench more (he's been more effective doing that in recent seasons), but if that's impossible for some reason make sure to include a buy-back clause in any sale.

Smith Rowe's only made 1 additional appearance.

Furthermore the timing makes no sense which makes me skeptical this will happen atleast in the immediate future, if he's about to leave the deal with Bayern would have been in the pipeline to some extent for quite a while, it makes little to no sense for Sarri to give him his first PL game of the season if he was off within days, we have frozen out more established players (Sturridge) under similar circumstances.
