March 12, 20224 yr I still don't understand how the options were that he can sell the club but get no money or leave it to be frozen and still get no money.

Not sure either. Could be he gets some influence into who wins the bid if he co-operates, even if he personally gets no money from it. It's moving so quick that it's hard to know what is going on to be honest. This is all new ground for everyone. Edited March 12, 20224 yr by TokyoBlue

It's almost as if the gov were banking on him wanting to save the club even though at this point Chelsea is worth more to the UK than himself, if the gov get the money then it's really in his best interest to make sure Chelsea is devalued and crippled as 'an enemy of the west'. In my fantasy though maybe there is a way he can give the money to the club itself so we can spend £1bn on a new stadium and have another £1bn in reserves for player buys etc. lol

March 12, 20224 yr It won’t surprise me if vast sums of money has been given to the Boris govt .. it seems the uk goby has gone out of its way to target Chelsea.. it’s clear now the valuation of the club is no longer 3B and the new owner would only have to look at half the money .. I wouldn’t surprise me if a few million has been paid to this corrupt establishment to make that happen.. unfortunately us commoners will never know what happens in these shady deals.. it’s clear now at least to me it’s very lil to do with Ukraine..
March 12, 20224 yr Roman has built the best academy in the country, where the best of its fruits are still to come. Without it, England will not get any closer to a major trophy than it recently has. The quick and smooth transfer of this club to a supportive owner is in the country’s interests.
March 12, 20224 yr I have to agree how wise it was for the sanctions to ban matchday programme sales tomorrow just to ensure that RA doesn’t get his hand on the proceeds. No cash so that money could easily have been paid into an account which would be frozen till such time as things ease it really isn’t that difficult but it’s abundantly apparent that the politicians have taken over , well you get it and I am one of those that thinks sanctions against RA were inevitable

Sanctioning Chelsea because its owner is linked to Putin and "might" be aiding him in funding his war yet the UK is without a doubt contributing to the Russian Federation account by the continued purchase of its oil/gas. You can't make this sh*t up. How about all the lives currently being lost in poorer countries because the UK hoovered up all covid vaccination supplies, some of which have literally gone to waste, because they put themselves first, which whilst immoral I can understand, whilst the rest of the poorer world dies. Or the continued insistence of the UK, Europe and other western countries currently firing out the Sanctions that refused to allow waivers for poorer countries to produce covid vaccines to make more readily available and cheaper too because the companies and of course interests of private citizens associated are more concerned about their financial benefit than saving lives.

Ultimately, I hope they see reason and decide that the loss of life isn't worth it. I don't know if that will happen, but its good to hopeful even if delusional. I hope you are wrong however, and we don't end up in another massive war. It won't pressure Putin to change his mind. He is as strong headed as they come and from a country leadership point of view, we may not like to hear it but he's absolutely right about his reasons for fighting. How he is going about it though is a different story. America will never allow Russia to set up shop in Mexico like the Americans have been doing for years around Russia under the guise of NATO. The only thing the Sanctions do regards the oligarchs is their collective decision to target and oust Putin when they decide he is really being disastrous to their businesses and future financial security. The only thing is that Putin with a strong foothold inthe KGB and support and control of the Russian army is skillful enough to navigate those waters. Hey all it takes is the offer of another spread of new wealth via the international organisations he is threatening to seize and nationalise and people will tow the line.
March 12, 20224 yr Soft targets which have made headlines because of inability of the European leaders to do anything substantial.

March 12, 20224 yr I have to say if RA or his companies are contributing anything to the Russian war effort it can't be on this scale. According to Javier Blas of Bloomberg, at the start of the year, Russia was earning $350 million per day from oil and $200 million per day from gas. On March 3 2022 Europe paid $720 million to Russia for gas alone.6 days ago

Really good article. This below just conveys my feelings in words I possibly have not been able to. "Except, not so much here. That state of cognitive dissonance is just too weird to gloss over. Shall we set it out here, just to be clear? Roman Abramovich has been sanctioned by the British government because he is “associated with a person who is or has been involved in destabilising Ukraine and undermining and threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.” What happens if we take these words and transpose them? Because Newcastle’s ownership is not just “associated with” or distantly tied to the destabilising, undermining and Biblical-scale destruction of it own neighbour Yemen. It is openly and personally engaged in it. This not a link that needs to be proven or teased out. It is literally the same person overseeing both the football fund and the fighter jets. And given it is now OK, and indeed de rigueur to suggest Chelsea’s trophies are stained by the blood of the citizens of Kyiv and Mariupol, it has been an odd thing to scan the sports websites and slip between these two extremes. Over here we have the guilt and the shame of Chelsea. And then just below the news from Newcastle about what an excellent job Eddie Howe is doing (which he really is) and what a smart, entirely commendable bit of spending that £80m winter window investment is turning out to be. This is not whataboutery. It is literally the same thing. Football owner + bloody war = undesirable. This is genuine equivalence. An estimated 10,000 children have been killed or maimed in Yemen. Shouldn’t someone in football also care about it just a little? Alan? Are there, like, any more videos?"
March 12, 20224 yr The lyrics of this song are as true as ever, and every bit as appropriate For anyone who’s managed to miss the point, here’s the last verse: 'N' if you can find a Afghan rebel That the Moscow bullets missed Ask him what he thinks of voting Communist... ...Ask the Dalai Lama in the hills of Tibet, How many monks did the Chinese get? In a war-torn swamp stop any mercenary, 'N' check the British bullets in his armoury Que? Sandinista!

And so true. I’ve been banging on about the hypocrisy of this all, but still some in here just don’t seem to care so much for the estimated 10,000 Yemeni children killed by UK and US bombs as they care for the 12 Ukrainian children. Not sure where they see the difference when they say it’s a different situation, it’s horrible in any country, independently of whether it’s Europe or Asia or Africa. But to some, there’s a difference.

Thanks for posting. I've seen or heard very little recently about the conflict in Yemen. What is happening there with support from the Saudi government is atrocious. I doubt if Shearer will criticise his club and if he doesn't it will show him to be a hypocrite. As for what is happening at Chelsea I'm still unclear about the role of Chelsea Pitch Owners in the sale of the club and if they have been approached by a potential buyer and the U.K. Government. Up until now the club hasn't called in its loan to the CPO but that could change with a new owner. Also the new owner could offer lots of money to CPO shareholders to take back the freehold. Will meet up with my mates in the pub tomorrow before heading to the Bridge. No prizes for guessing the main topic of conversation. Like so many of my age we have seen some ups and downs over the years. Who can forget Marler Estates. @carrickblue as you posted earlier Rangers went through a lot of crap from 2012 but made their way back from the lower tier and were having 50,000 at Ibrox and taking a large support to away games. Lost a lot of players but have come back stronger. When they won the title last season I'm not sure what gave me the greatest enjoyment. That title or Chelsea winning the Champions League. I got drunk on both occasions. To use a phrase popular among Rangers fans: We Are The People. 🇬🇧 🇬🇮

Its because it Chelsea and its acceptable.... years of jealousy and hatred for us winning it all, seems most are rounding on us to have their moment. I just can't accept the hypocrisy.
March 12, 20224 yr After this ‘Clusterf**k’ of this debacle, and Roman having to give the club away for gratis, Spare a thought that RA will be on his Eclipse or Solaris, Still trousering 10 billion, sipping sundowners, and listening to Pink Floyds Money on permanent loop…

The UK government have not sanctioned Chelsea. The government sanctioned Roman, and in line with the sanctions laws, his assets have been frozen. The government have actually been lenient in allowing Chelsea dispensation to operate at all, as it is well within the governments rights to freeze all assets, including Chelsea. I understand that people are frustrated due to the impact on Chelsea, but lets not make things up by saying Chelsea have been sanctioned. I wonder how many people on this forum complaining about the government sanctions actually voted this government into power?
