Lamps played with kids yesterday and a for a lot of them was first match in blue shirt so we will see in next matches who is up for and who to loan again or sell

And after just one game,  Jimmy Floyd has already written off those who played.  I like Jimmy, but it's annoying when ex players can talk such sh*t about kids playing their first senior games. Nerves and fitness surely must be taken into account.

I like that we now have a manager that will try to play with players from the academy and give them a chance to play for Chelsea and keep some of them for the first team and build players and buy some if you need but not the whole team

I think we always have had managers that play the kids in pre season matches, especially when some of the senior pros are not yet back. I remember a number of people raving about Bulka in goal for us last pre-season. He's gone now, on a free.

Jimmy is not alone with his assessments. I spoken to pro’s at the loan clubs where some have been and they’ve said certain players aren’t Chelsea Players.

Could you elaborate further? Which players are you referencing?

Apparently, the following players were sent back to Cobham today:

  • Guehi
  • Chalobah
  • Sterling
  • Gallagher
  • Baker
  • Piazon
  • Brown
  • Ugbo

If that's true, it means Gilmour has been kept back. Good news as he was one of those who did quite well in the second half.

Shame baker hasn’t really kicked on. Thought he stood a decent chance couple of years ago

I’ve watched him play a few times at under 15’s he’s honestly brilliant, vision and composure, he is a bit small if he can keep up his development and hopefully grows a bit he looks to be some player

Being small isn't as big a deal in football as it used to be. A lot of the best players in the game over the last 10 years have been a similar height, just look at Hazard, Kante, Xavi, Iniesta, Modric, Aguero, Sterling, Griezmann, and one of the greatest players to play the game, Messi.

I think I read he's being sent back tomorrow after this game.

Super encouraged by the fact that we're seeing some thought put into the 1st and 2nd half lineups in terms of personnel AND formation. Its just numbers on paper but it seems like Lamps is searching for the right combination and tactical set up to utilize our squad. This obviously would not have happened under the previous 3 managers and it's a welcome change for me.

I'm interested to see how our midfield lines up under Lamps. Can't see a great deal of change at the back, and with the 4-2-3-1 expected it has to be Giroud up top with Tammy or Michy as back up. For midfield, surely Mount and Ampadu will feature, expecting/hoping for something like this once everyone is injury free.

DM - Kante / Ampadu

Box to box - RLC / Kova

LF - CHO / Willian

AM - Mount / Barkley

RF - Pulisic / Pedro

Makes me think what would happen to Jorginho, has to be moved on, can't see a use for him in this system.

It's just laughable seeing the Jorginho comments...emoji23.png

I kid you not on another platform somebody tried to tell me Jorginho will be discarded while Bakayoko will make the final cut. Makes me wonder if they've done any even basic research on what Lampard's like as a manager.

Agree.  Jorginho is a nailed on started for me.

I actually quite rate Jorginho, he works very well in the right system, however in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 the two central midfielders both need to be able to tackle and press. Jorginho can't do either well enough. Lets see, but firstly i can't see Lampard setting the team up like Sarri and secondly i can't see Lampard building a team around Jorginho.

Disagree. I think Jorginho is one of the best tacklers that we have. There are not many players get cleanly past him in a one v one situation. His issue has always been pace and so when he gets outnumbered and passed around he can easily look out of his depth. With Kante alongside, pressing and harrying Jorginho will be free to re-establish the flow and pattern of the game that we want to impose. My issue with using him in the Sarri set up was his ability to recover in the intense tempo of the EPL and the subsequent pressure it put on our fragile defence once he was dispossessed. I actually think he will work better in a two and in some instances against weaker opposition it will still allow Kante to roam further upfield to affect play.
