Genuine question - is there any value in changing the manager when maybe 80-90% of the squad will be away for the best part of a month?

Well it's better than when they are all here and we've got a game that week.

Obviously yes J5 golden shoe!

Anyway, I think no matter how it goes Tuchel is going to have a tough time in the future cause next season we won't have Kante nor Jorginho, probably no more T.Silva either and so on so Tuchel or not, whoever is there is going to need some epic rebuilding to do all over the place. And no more Roman to help out.

Says who? He said we are in negotiations to extend Jorginho’s contract, expect the same for Kante. Won’t be surprised if he extends Silva’s also. He has already had Azpi’s extented.

Wait till we have 6 over 30’s starting for us next season because the manager cannot improve younger players.

But you would only usually change manager on the assumption that the new man can come in and get results straight away. With a world cup in the middle of this season and a break for a month I am just not sure if there is value making a change at that point.

I agree with what you're saying if hypothetically we are 10th going into the world cup then questions need to be asked but not sure if I see the value in changing when a new manager would have very little time with the bulk of his squad for the best part of a month.

At least if you make a change in a normal world cup year, you still get a bit of a pre-season with the bulk of the squad.

And if going into the world cup we are sat in 10th position and our top scorer is jorginho. Does he get the second half of the season?

10th ? Jesus wept get a grip of yourself, it's one defeat, how long have you been watching football ? What happens at the beginning of a season is not a good indicator of how the season will unfold. This was the table this time last year...

If that happens then Tuchel is going to crash and burn because suddenly we won't have the capacity for top 4 anymore given that our attack doesn't work and suddenly we will be paying wages for a bunch of 32 year old players in the midfield and defense too. To extend their contracts would be shortsighted, we need new key players there... Tuchel should count on the fact that his current system can easily be changed if he makes new transfer targets, extending the contracts of those 3 is only further blocking our attack and what not...

It's a hypothetical conversation not a prediction.

Well, I totally disagree. These worldclass strikers score their goals no matter who is on the bench.
Mbappe scored tons of goals with Tuchel as his coach on the bench. Kane was doing this with Mourinho, Pochettino or Conte. And the same we can now watch with Haaland, that this guy  is scoring in  Bundesliga, Premier League or on  the moon.

The problem with our transfers is: we dont have a worldclass striker like Haaland here. So I cannot prove you wrong and you cannot prove me wrong.

Hmm Haaland best strength is running behind.

If you have watched our game for the last 2 season, you will watch how many times rom n timo made good run and they were just waste

TT has conceded to sky sports that there is a decent chance we don't make more first team signings:

"Asked about any potential new signings heading to Stamford Bridge, he added: "We have some ideas but maybe nobody comes in. It's not a long window anymore."

He also stated new players not arriving was no excuse for what happened at Leeds:

"

"It's not only about shouting for players.

"The squad was strong enough to win the match at Leeds, and far too strong to lose 3-0.

"This is where it starts. The transfer window has not changed the opinion much. We have known for weeks what we ideally add to the group."

It’s all well and good giving a manager time but what if you lose or draw more games during that season, your league position doesn’t stay the same during that run.

At what point do you say enough is enough and change staff? Bottom 3 of the league at Christmas? Jose level in late 2015?

I’m not being a dick or advocating Tommy to go now, just genuinely interested in when fans think that it’s time to change manager?

I am expecting us to be sixth this season. I think our position last season flattered us significantly.

If we ended up sixth what do we think would happen to TT?

Under Roman he would be fired, but Roman has gone, and probably so has the short fuse. Which I'm fine with, for all our success over the Roman years, we never went on and dominated like City are doing, back to back titles once is not really a good return for all the money spent.

So now on to Todd and who knows which way he will go, if i had to guess i think he will be loyal to Tuchel, for how long who knows, but i don't see Todd having that ruthless streak in him. I can't see him wanting to pay off managers every 2 years.

I think you're right @coco and it may be the way to go. We will need to believe that TT ca  develop a team for the future, hopefully from these kids we've recently brought in. In the meantime we will probably have to accept that we are no longer an elite club and whilst we might not be classified as a selling club we certainly don't appear to be the draw to players that we think we are.

Just think we're going to have to keep remembering this level of pragmatism when we continue to fail when it matters this season.

I am beginning to get worried for CFC under TT.  The more I sit and think about the last 12 months the more I am considering that TT is not the manager we think he is.  When he came in he had a bundle of talent at his disposal that needed sorting out, but while he shored up the defence he could not get the midfield and attack sorted out and he still hasn't 12 months later.  The players he has got shot of and those queuing up to leave are talented players that needed 'coaching' but somehow it all seems to have come apart and I wonder if he is a 'coach' or is he a man manager and a stubborn one at that?

Why is it that multi talented goalscorer dried up under TT management?  Werner 78 goals in 4 seasons, Havertz an attacking midfielder who chipped in with a few goals now and then gets shoved up front as a false nine, Lukaku scored 150 goals for Inter, Man U / Everton but falls flat on his face under TT, Ziyech..chips in with on ave about 6 goals as a winger, Abraham 47 goals in the EPL, yet they all failed ..why?  Why didn't TT work with the players and to their strengths and massage his tactics to suit the players rather than simply give up and bin them?  Did he really try to work with Werner, yes Werner missed more than a few but he created space and never received the ball when he made some great runs; the same with Lukaku; TT's message was clear, play safe football, don't lose the ball; so any chance of a killer pass that perhaps would have a lower success rate less than 100% was rarely played.

My fear is nothing is going to change despite Sterling being brought in...you can see him making runs but the ball just doesn't come...is he going to end up like Werner and Lukaku?  I guess we'll wait and see as the season progresses...

Nobody knows why our attack doesn't work, maybe not even Tuchel.

Interestingly enough Ziyech was a player that was constantly trying to make an epic pass, and he was really good at providing too despite wasting some balls, while at the same time Pulisic was a very direct player constantly trying to cut inside and to take on players, so on paper we had 2 wide players that were supposed to make plenty of trouble of any opposition. And yet both of them can't get a sniff in our current system.

It is most likely a very complex issue because we have had a range of different profiles and none of them was able to lead the line. We had 18 different scorers in the PL last season which is what essentially made us a top 4 team so while we lack a real go-to attack option we clearly can spot a run from other players while the attackers are being marked or something like that. 40 shots in 3 matches and 3 goals scored means that our conversion rate is less than 8% which is pretty sad considering that teams like Palace and Fulham have had more shots at goal than us.

I think we should be making top 4, but I don't think 6th is unrealistic considering our form since the new year.

After all, we've been the 6th best side since the new year behind Liverpool, Man City, Spurs, Newcastle and Arsenal.
