Drogba???

Drogba was an exceptional forward and an all round better player but Diego was a better goal scorer. Had a knack of being in the right places and didn't miss too many clear cut chances and was a big reason for our two most reason league titles.

He had grown on me after a long time, then after 3 seconds he started to grate on me.

Wonderful player, difficult character and probably badly advised.

Remember all of those people criticising the club for not getting this sorted sooner and taking a big financial hit because Diego supposedly held all the cards? Next minute: £53m-£57m, depending on what source you prefer. Regardless, we did the right thing in waiting for a credible bid and not kowtowing in the face of a press beat up and an opportunistic Atleti.

Thanks for the memories, Diego.

Made it plain every year he wanted out, was nothing but trouble, hated his continuous 'niggling' on the pitch.. But.. He was a great goalscorer for us though, and that can't be denied.
Overall I think we got the best years out of him, and ended up getting shot of a barrel load of trouble for a 20m profit.. Well done the club.

Our best striker since Drogba. A great story but a terrible ending. Dug us out of  a lot of mess and was equally capable of creating one.

At least we'll be saved from the nerves of getting our striker sent off every game

Matters little if we don't reinvest it.

We make an absolute fortune yet seem to flounder in the market. That money needs RE invested into the squad in January

Anyone seen this article on our income from sales since 2014?

£500m, they reckon.

But they seem to overlook the £10m we were reported to make in sell-on fees when KdB left Wolfsburg for Citeh. And wasn't there any sell-on profit in the Lukaku deal? I've read conflicting reports, although most seem to blame José for not including one (as if he had any hand in transfer negotiations).

Happy that this has been concluded. All three parties should be celebrating. Us, for getting three productive years and two titles from Diego, plus a healthy profit on the deal. AM, for seeing a legend return to a club that keeps seeing its superstar strikers poached away. And the player himself, who gets the move he's been hankering after for most of the past three seasons. I'd love them to win the next three Spanish titles (why stop at three?).

Conte deserves flak for that ridiculous text that has possibly lost the club millions by reducing our bargaining power, but he's not exactly made a lot of mistakes in his time with us, so we should go easy on him.

Great striker but a great pain in the arse too...inevitable chelsea will draw Atletico in cl quarter finals onwards if we get that far this season or in the competition again over next few seasons...we should be grateful, he helped us win two titles, but the guy's heart was always at Atletico...

worth remembering though, as good as he was in the pl, his form always nosedived in second half of the season and he scored just twice for us in the champions league

Hopefully they don't make it out of the group stage and Diego gets to play Euro League

I'm still not convinced this is what actually happened. There must be more context we don't know about.
