Andreas Christensen

His situation reminds me of pique at United. There is definately a top player in there, I just think he struggled with the physicality of the premier league last season, and as soon as the mistakes started coming, his confidence has drained.

He needs to be more aggressive, both physically, and with his distribution. It all depends on whether the player and the club have the patience to wait until he matures physically, and tactically.

There's not many 22 year old centre backs that are the finished article, I just think he needs to knuckle down, bulk up a bit, and take on board direction and advice from sarri, and the likes of Luiz, to improve his game.

I've been shocked at his decline to be honest. I really thought we had a young 'home grown' defender stating a place in the starting line up, but he seems to have gone backwards in the system Sarri wants.
Real shame, but If he can't play as the manager wants he will have to be moved on.
I'm loving the football we are playing, and don't care who has to be sacrificed for it to continue.

I'm not all that surprised that he's having serious problems adjusting to Sarri's system, nor that Sarri has preferred Luiz.

As I've said previously, the problem with Christensen is that while he's a pretty good pure defender (in terms of marking/tackling/positioning), he lacks the qualities required to play for Sarri on an ongoing basis as it stands.

He's not particularly quick, his distribution is rather average and he struggles when pressured on the ball.

Really? I would say most turn out the opposite. And even if AC goes down that route, the club can't really be blamed, Christensen has had months to play his way back into form.

Everyone always points to the mistake against Barca but i still strongly believe that was 90% Cesc's fault rather than Chirstensen's.

Maybe, but the whole point is how it's killed Christensen mentally, he's gone from arguably being the best young CB in the world to looking like a Ben Haim parody.

Exactly!  It's not about him making a cosly mistake because thats just a part of football. It's the way that one mistake has so badly affected his game ever since is the issue.  Sadly, itt's showing he's mentally weak and if he cant sort out that side of his characterr he'll never be the player many thought he'd be.

Perhaps, but i would be more concerned if he prevented Ampadu from breaking through.

don't entirely know what he's done wrong. Cahill is obviously playing because he's the chose captain.

It’s not about doing things wrong it’s about not being productive.

In a system where there centre backs get a lot of touches and are expected to make a lot of passes (Rudiger and Luiz are with the top 5 of most passes in the league) Christensen is so passive he becomes close to a hindrance.

By playing a lot of his passes sideways and backwards he invites the opponents to press us high and unless he or his centre back partner makes incisive passes forward the whole system collapses.

He was slow to recover the throughball for Wolves 1st and gave the ball away for Wolves 2nd. Sadly I don't think he has the mentality or the ability to play at the highest level. Sell in January.

Ye lets play a old Luiz instead who cant tackle, over someone who misplaced a pass. There was still a lot of defending to do after that. Also the first goal was Arizabalagas fault.

Kepa's fault?  Cesc was out of position then Christensen got beat.  We'd bemoan any of our attackers if they didn't score from there. He got a clean right footed look just outside the 6.  Sadly I don't think we give up either of the goals with Jorginho in there. He looks to get under the ball more.

Yes Kepa's fault. It was straight at him. Didn't have to move. We have to expect our keeper to save those.

Moving aside, Christensen isn't the perfect centre back yet but is still very young and I think has massive potential. The club definitely has a problem when it comes to young players being given a chance but some of our fans are also just as bad and quick to judge without allowing them to develop fully (I.e expecting mistake free performances from young players).

Was poor last night, his distribution just isn't up to par.

He dawdles on the ball for far too long and isn't decisive.

There was a few times where he played passes backwards and sideways and it invited Wolves to push up on us and we ended up giving the ball away cheaply.

Slow on the ball and Rudiger ended up covering him on the left a lot last night. Thought he would be massive for us early on but really doesn't look good in a back 4. Sell and bring back Ake?

It might just be a lack of game time, but his form this season has been baffling considering that he was near flawless for the first two-thirds of last season.

Had he finished last season in the same form (and also still in the first XI), he would have been among the contenders for player of the season in my opinion.

Was Luiz injured our just rotated? If there was one league game for Christensen, it should have been against Fulham at home, a 'gentle' game to ease back in the league. He hasn't played a single minute in the league this season, of course he's going to struggle. Luiz probably just throw a dummy tackle and let the striker ran past him for the first goal, Kepa should have done better, that's why we don't see many goals scored like that, the least Gk could do is to get a hand on it and results in a rebound, NOT straight into the goal.

Probably a very unpopular opinion but he has been poor or bellow average in every game he played this season. Yet he mostly played against opposition that are inferior to us. I am all up for giving chances for our talented youngsters, but at the level of football we are playing you just can't have big mistakes and look shaky in every game you start. He is probably shaken by the fact he isn't a starter and gets the odd chance, but you have to have a strong mentality to break into this team. At some point he has the mentality of a toddler.

I think Ake would work perfectly in our system, and I believe we have a first refusal or buy back option on him don't we? Christiansen seems to be struggling lately for some reason

We have inserted a buy back clause. Then again he shouldn't have been sold, he is doing so well at Bournemouth.
