No, it’s Malouda for not passing the ball.

You’re all wrong, it’s all Uncle Ken’s fault!

Even with the faults he has, it's days like today that will keep him in the side. On his day, he is the most complete defender, then there will be days where he looks like the worst.

I still maintain he is underrated. This performance will go into deaf ears soon. He is risky but also a very key component to the side.

Came up huge today.

He's had a few fantastic performances against City now.

Luiz tends to perform however the team are performing. When the commitment from the team is there and we are passing the ball confidently, he tends to up his game. When we look like we can't be bothered, he tends to have one of his games like he had against Tottenham.

So the cure to Luiz mistakes is to always play well

I've always maintained that every team needs a David Luiz - he is the biggest character in a squad where characters are a bit thin on the ground.

When he's good he is very f**king good but when he's bad..................................................

But today, Viva Luiz - love him again!

We were discussing the other day about lacking leaders, Luiz comes close and seems the best in that regard of a motley bunch, hopefully we see more displays like today.

When he puts in performances like that today, he's right up there with the best in the world, goal saving tackles, press breaking long passes, dominant at set pieces. If only he could do it every time he goes out there. Nonetheless delighted for him and proud of the fight he showed, a good example of what was lacking against Spurs and Wolves

If only Sarri could have managed 23 year old David Luiz.

You could also see how much Pep respects his ability on the ball. Whenever City pressed they tried their best to block off Luiz and have either Rudiger get the ball or make sure that two men blocked the mid channel and force Luiz to play in Alonso. Still wasnt enough, that long crosser for our first goal is something no other defender in the prem does after him

Yes I liked the fact that him and Pep shared a hug after match, nice touch.

I voted for him as my MOTM in the Citeh game and he was up against other big performers on the day especially Dave and Kante. But I know, as we all do, that he won't play like that consistently and will turn in another Tottenham performance before the end of the season. It has been the same his whole career, wherever he has played.

It is his nature. He cannot hold that level of concentration and discipline week in week out. That's why IMO he can never be talked about as being top class. Baresi, Maldini, JT, Bonucci, Desailly, Vidic, Silva, Lucio all great centre-halves\defenders who never had such peaks and troughs as Luiz. They made odd errors as all defenders will occasionally, but they maintained levels of defensive consistency and decision making that Luiz has never achieved at any stage of his career.  I get that that makes him entertaining. We cheer him on and sh*t our pants at the same time, but at the end of the day that inconsistency won't help us get to where we want to go as a club.

Really fair assessment.

At 31, and with a butchered hamstring thanks to the 2012 heroics, I don't think Luiz will have many years left at chelsea as a starter. We have some good young centre backs coming through, but there aren't many in the world that has Luiz's vision and range of passing, so it might be a position we look at in the summer. I like Ampadu though, maybe he could step up.

Very fair, it is also the reason he plays so much better in the "City" type games. When he is being tested constantly he doesn't have time to switch off, and therefore the concentration levels stay high pretty much throughout.

When it comes to Luiz it's basically "when it rains it pours", traditionally in a defender that's the last thing you want, but he offers a lot more to the team than defence. There's no way we would have gotten that goal before halftime if it wasn't for him, and he's done that all season with his diagonal balls and long range passing.

It sounds weird, but he needs to be protected, he's a great asset from the back to contribute to the attack and keep hold of possession, that's why we need to keep hold of the ball more. If we don't then we'll see more of the Spurs performance from him.

Luiz wants to be Messi which sadly is beyond his reach. Games like City game makes him believe he is Messi which will make him continue on this path he is on. Brilliant highs and catastrophic lows. City last week and Brazil vs Germany as the contrast.

What I love about Luiz is he takes responsibility. He doesn't hide. Glad we have him on his second stint with us. Was brilliant under the Conte in his first season.

I agree with this when things aren't going to plan he is the one that steps forward to make something happen.
