Andy Carroll - Football has gone mad

Featured Replies

There was never anything wrong with signing Drinkwater, unfashionable English yes but he's a good player. Barkley may be a hit or miss but Andy Carroll is where any benefit of doubt ends... I hope it is misinformation but I think Conte does want a big hold up player hence us being linked to Llorente and Benteke.

Yeah, Drinkwater and Barkley I can handle but I draw the line at Andy Carroll.  Though, that said, at least he wouldn't be able to score a 90th minute header against us.

Oh please, I only asked for one thing for Christmas, and assumed I'd never have it.

Andy Carroll plodding around in a Chelsea shirt. Maybe dreams do come true!?

How and why is Drinkwater a bad/underwhelming signing? We had bought a 40mil 22 year old prospect. We already had Kante and Cesc. We needed a good CM, who would not mind being rotated. Along with solving our horrible HG ratio (GC, Moses, Cesc, Andreas being the only others). It was a good signing, lets take each signing on its merit rather than making each non world class player signing/rumour in the same bracket.

Andy Carroll is a one-trick-pony and an okay backup. If we sign him he will be brought in at 80min mark to head in one of the kitchensinks. However I think we can do much better.

Why not just recall Tammy then if there are any reasonable minutes to be had? He has had decent game time for a relegation bound team, why not just bring him back to spend the 2nd half of the season playing with better players. Klopp is giving Solanke the odd game when he needs to rest Firmino.

The Style and Type of Striker that Carroll is makes sense, big bloke to hold the ball up and the likes of Willian, Pedro, Hazard etc.

Makes sense but not sure anyone would accept Carroll

I don't believe this. If we did sign him it would just be a sign that the board aren't even going to try keeping up with the Manchester clubs and we may as well give up.

I mean, this has to be a joke? We already have someone who can score with his head. It's not the first of April yet is it?

The Carroll rumour seems to have originated in the Mail so I don't think we have anything to get upset about. I'm guessing their tabloid logic went something like this: Chelsea striker stops scoring + Andy Carroll scores two goals -> Chelsea want to sign Andy Carroll.

Personally I'd find it quite funny if he did sign so I almost hope that it turns out to be true.

Absolute nonsense. What makes it worse is the people who get all melodramatic over the prospect of it happening. From what I have seen the rumour comes from dailystar. Anything for a story though.

I think you're right Dave.

That said, my personal view is that for the right price he is exactly the sort of player required. He is a third striker, a different option when teams are sitting deep. You have watched him against us, he is near unplayable in the air. He is the one striker I've ever seen bully JT physically. We are missing that.

My question is perhaps about his personality and potential negative impact on the squad.

Yes, physically he's a freak of nature and is brilliant in the air, and I also think he's a better player than many give him credit for. I'd like to think we learnt our lesson after Remi though - a backup striker who's constantly on the treatment table is not really a backup.

Might as well just save the money and stick cahill up top.

Seriously though, I appreciate he would be a good option as a last roll of the dice when are launching balls forward, but he doesn't have the touch, technique, or speed to compliment the rest of the team.

Crazy rumour, I'm praying that's all it is.
