Even if we lost that was the correct decision, I love Edou and I think he's a fantastic keeper but with penalties he's absolutely woeful. As for Kepa, as much as I don't rate him I never doubted (even during Sarri gate) that he was a good person and quite clearly well liked by his teammates. Unlike the previous two record transfers from Spain I'll have fond memories of him despite everything and moments like this help further with that.
August 11, 20214 yr Definately the right decision. I couldnt work out why others were panicking. I remember Mendys first game for us against Spurs in the league cup last year. Might as well have been De Gea in goal, he was so bad. Kepa has shown he's good at penalties. Was at the bridge when he won us the shootout against Eintract Frankfurt in the Europa League Semi final, so i knew he was atleast saving some of the penalties. Well done lad. Plus we will need him when Edou goes to the African Cup of Nations. Im sure he will do well.

You can understand the reasoning being missed by fans, but the guys at BT not doing their research was beyond embarrising, Joe Cole especially had absolutely zero excuse not to he clued on. August 11, 20214 yr Very happy for him, I think whatever happens now, most likely he wont ever be 1st choice here, he has a nice moment of redemption.

August 12, 20214 yr Gotta feel for him. Hopefully this is the start of a Theon Greyjoy level redemption arc.
August 12, 20214 yr I’m actually so happy for him, he’s had a rough time here and really deserved a moment of heroics. Of course we know week in week out he isn’t good enough for a team going for the big trophies but I’m buzzing he’s finally had his big moment.

In the unlikely event that we can get back anything near to the 70+ mil we payed, then we should sell. Too big of an investment to have tied up in a reserve shootout keeper.

At least he came through for us last night. He probably thought "I'll f**king show 'em" Hopefully this shores up his self-confidence, as he needs to step up when Mendy is off to the Africa Cup of Nations.

Depending on how successful his team is, Mendy could be gone for almost a month. However looking at the schedule that means he would only miss Man City and Spurs.
August 13, 20214 yr Been a huge critic in the past few years, but really happy for him. Hopefully a sign of better days ahead for Kepa...
September 19, 20214 yr Even though spurs didn't really trouble him, he looked confident every time the ball came into the box. The supercup win must have been a huge confidence boost which is a positive for us since he'll be starting for us while Mendy is away at AFCON.
September 19, 20214 yr Well done Kepa. He probably won't want all the praise, but was exactly what we needed today - Brave when coming out against Son - Commanding when winning the aerial ball (followed by the minor injury/stretch) - Assured when handling the one long range shot from Kane - ball died in his clutchess
September 20, 20214 yr He's going to be in goal for us for at least a month come the New Year to it's reassuring to play with some confidence.
September 20, 20214 yr Seems to have his confidence back. No hate against Lampard at all but our defence was very open during his tenure and that seemed to hurt his confidence a lot. I imagine most keepers will be fine under a Tuchel regime, which is a positive for Kepa while Mendy is away. Glad to see a smile back on his face.
September 22, 20214 yr He did well again today. Couldn't do anything about the goal and had some nice moments apart from that. And of course he saved a penalty... again.

I still wouldn't be comfortable with him back as number 1 for a prolonged period but he's certainly starting to make me feel a lot less uneasy about the ACON next year. Hooefully he keeps this momentum up because I remember everytime I thought Hilario was becoming a reliable back up he'd have an absolute disasterclass, really hope this is different.
