Really not sure how I feel about it until we see the fee. Really hope we haven’t spent over £50m on him. Will be even more worried if what we do spend means we have less to spend on at least one quality CB. BUT! Mauricio's Paninis is saying that its off tho. I don't know how much they know about football transfers, but I've heard the paninis and sandwiches are off the charts good

No way we are getting him for less than £80 million and that's the problem he's not worth close to that

He wouldnt be my 1st choice, but he is good athlete, he is young enough that you would hope he will improve, and most importantly, he is lampards top target. We have complained about not backing the manager in the past, i dont think we can grumble too much if the board sign werner, Ziyech, Havertz, and chilwell.
August 15, 20205 yr Would rather we sign Havertz and a lower cost LB than Chiwell. Doesn't seem all that special to me.
August 15, 20205 yr Happy to be quoted on this if proven wrong but seems like a waste of money to me.

I think the deal is on and very close, the Times now confirming that there’s been a breakthrough in the talks and a deal is imminent:https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/chelsea-closing-in-on-ben-chilwell-jjb93qh76

Havertz has agreed personal terms with us. We were always going to go after a CB and LB. Not gonna lie, I hope we aren't paying over £55m for him though. I feel like we should be spending the higher fees on a CB, not a LB. But then again, both are important so who knows. Good fullbacks are crucial in modern football.
August 15, 20205 yr I am not impressed with ben esp with the price rumoured.. How do people rate him over the other LB links such as reguilon, tagli etc if money was no issue? I.e if we still had.money left for CB and keeper after buying him and Kai..

That's what quoted but Leicester will get more than that he's English so that's automatically an extra £20-25 million on any fee. I just don't see the hype around this guy maybe he proves me wrong but just don't see it. There are alternatives which are cheaper and will perform probably better
August 15, 20205 yr Well if this is actually happening, let's hope Frank is right and most of us are wrong ...
August 15, 20205 yr Looks like something is in this now. i don’t know what to make of this. But if lampard wants him then I’m fine with that. Though the fees being stated is ridiculous

I think Chilwell has gone from overrated, to underrated. He is still a good player despite a poorish 6 months. The 18 months prior to that he was one of the best in the league. We would all prefer a cheaper option, but i thi k this transfer could end up like Pulisic, where there are plenty of complaints about the price, but in a very short time, that is all forgotten, when the perfomances are good.

He's been sh*t, not just poor. He's comfortably the worst defender in their backline. And even in his good form his defensive lapses will be far less forgiven at Chelsea than at Leicester. It's not as if we have any top end CBs to cover for him as well, do we? He's also a big confidence player, will play well when we're doing well but see some of the same sh*t as this season and we're gonna have even bigger complaints than about Alonso. Questionable signing in my eyes. Edited August 15, 20205 yr by MANoWAR

Leicester fans on Twitter are actually happy they are getting a massive fee for him and when the selling clubs fans are happy then I remain cautious.
August 15, 20205 yr My final hope is United come out of nowhere and steal this guy instead of Kai and then enjoy Luke Shaw 2.0 for the next 5 seasons. Are they that stupid? Edited August 15, 20205 yr by Droopy

Dortmund fans were happy to get a big fee for Pulisic. I guess we will have to just see how it pans out.

August 15, 20205 yr Upgrade on what we have. If its 65 million add-ons included its not the worst price in the world. I'd assume initial fee around 50 million in that case with add-ons for winning the league etc. That i could live with.
August 15, 20205 yr Sources are saying record fee for a LB, so at the very least upwards of 52 million (Mendy). I honestly think we will have payed close to 60m which is insane but not as bad as 80m on Maguire but still an insane amount for what you get. He is quick and can get forward but again doesn’t solve our defensive issues. Considering a top CB these days is upwards of 60m as well we better start selling some players.
August 15, 20205 yr I don't rate Ben Chilwell at all, he has been below average in almost all the games I've seen him. He is not quick like the worldclass L/R backs that dominates in CL now, for 65mil he should be. We should be spending most of our money on Havertz & Declan Rice instead. Take a chance on Reguilon, who is quick, for under 1/3 of the price of Ben Chillwell.

Was he seriously one of the best LBs in the league at some point? I'm genuinely curious as Leicester fans seem to be buzzing about this deal, saying he's their worst defender currently. Whatever happens, if this goes through I'll obviously back him from day one. Won't look forward to this thread though with all the knee-jerk reactions that we all love very much.
