Romelu Lukaku back to Chelsea - and gone again!

Featured Replies

People will often rightfully point out that youtube highlights don't give a very rounded impression of a player, so I decided to take an opposite approach and watch a Lukaku fail compilation from his Utd days. Honestly, it's not so bad. Some big misses obviously - as per the purpose of the video - but also displays of good positioning, movement and touches in a PL context. Considering the development he's undergone at Inter I'm quite optimistic

Welcome home Romelu!

We badly needed a striker, Haaland couldn't be done, Kane is impossible, so a good solution IMO.

I'm confident he will get 15+ league goals this season.

Would be great to keep Tammy as well but that looks unlikely unfortunately, so lets see how the season goes...

Honestly I dont think Haaland was ever a realistic target, and neither was Kane.

Kane is obvious why not. For Haaland he has the same agent Lukaku used to who screwed us when we tried to get Rom back from Everton and took the big payday United offered.

The money being talked about for Haaland, 200mill in fees then huge wages, made it not possible for us or anyone else.

If it was possible, dont you think PSG or City would be beating down his door? Sure they would. They need to wait for that 70mill clause so the deal of fees drops to somewhere around 130mill plus huge wages.

Not to sound like I am selling Rom but I believe he was our top realistic target that was not available until recently as Inter tried to balance the books by first selling Hakimi and then others like Martinez.

watch him end up at Utd next season if Kane goes to City

I know he loves the club and I wanted him to be a hit ever since his first spell here and impose himself as a Chelsea regular and become Drogba's heir, but as all things in this Universe happen for a reason maybe this 2nd spell is his moment to shine and become a Chelsea legend. Comes back a different man and a different player and in his prime years.

Is it the transfer fee a tad high? I believe so. When I first heard Chelsea would be intersted and given Inter Milano's poor financial situation, I thought 75M would do it. Did not expect 100M to be fair. Maybe with prime Lewandowski, Aguero, Suarez, Benzema on the market, plus Kane and Haaland, maybe Lukaku would be a 70-75M transfer, but with such limited options on the market, then I guess it is a fair price in the end.

I wanted Haaland as well, but frankly if he'd have wanted to come here, that rumoured 130M offer would have been accepted by Dortmund. I have no doubts about it. But since he did not want to come now when Chelsea had basically no competition for him, why wait another year when all Europe is going to lick his and his fat agent's asses?

Welcome back Romelu Lukaku!

Terrific.

Bet Tuchel is a very happy man right now. Now let's get his medical done and get him on the pitch for Villarreal.

Lukaku to take us to the title race, let's go we really needed an attacker and Tuchel said we lack a more standard striker so he got what he needed.

Hope to see Kounde as well.

Welcome back Big Rom !!

We shouldn't talk too much about it being his come back, because one way or the other it may keep him remembering that he wasn't that good when he was with us the last time, most important thing now is that he has improved, let's believe he will do well for us this time around.

So it is #welcomelukaku, not #welcomebacklukaku.

Maybe he'll use it as motivation...

No, that does not motivate someone. It dampens their spirit. Maybe we should say he's a changed player now, so no need to talk about his first time at Chelsea, I think he has improved.

Can't say I share the same excitement as some of you. I just think it's going to hurt our attacking game as a whole. I was really looking forward to seeing Mount, Havertz and Pulisic together and see how they kick on this season, because I feel it has potential to be something special, but that won't be happening now unless Tuchel switches to a back 4, which he isn't going to do. I know we are lacking goals and Lukaku will very likely bring more goals than what we got last season, but I feel we are also going to lose so much to our overall game.

He's not coming back to continue to play for us the way he last played for us, I think he is different now, so we should not say too much about it being his welcome back, let's just welcome him, I think he's a different player now.

I feel the same way but I prefer the Werner, Havertz Mount fluid attack. Werner had the most goal contributions and assists for us last season and lets not forget the space he creates for the others with his selfless runs.

Wow, Mount, Havertz and Pulisic, you think this is Kindergarten football? So you will want to play against Man Utd, with Varane, Maguire, Luke Shaw, Bissaka etc. You will be playing Mount, Havertz and Pulisic?

Talking of Mount, we need to bring up this issue, I don't rate Mount, I don't rate him above Barkley, sincerely. If Mount knows how to play shot, Barkley knows how to play shot. So how is Mount better than Barkley?

For God's sake, we even bought Pulisic, and people will not allow this guy to play. He should be playing our left wing, instead it is this Mount that is playing there.

If people do not understand this 343 formation that we are using, then they should keep shut. The last time we used the system under Conte, you could see the two players that played behind the striker were Hazard and Willian or Pedro. They were technical players who could create chances for the striker.

They must be able to pass to the striker. But Mount can't do that, and I feel we are very poor in attack as a team now. I keep saying that we are bad in attack. I don't think we are a good team if we are bad in attack. I dont think we can be thinking of winning the premier league if we are not good in attack.

So please, the two players that should play behind Lukaku should be Pulisic and Havertz.

How can anbody take you seriously when you say that Barkley is better than Mount? I could give you a sh*t ton of examples and go into detail on why Mount is better than Barkley, but I will keep it simple.

If Barkley played for us in front of Mount last season, we don't win the Champions League final. We wouldn't have even made it to the final.

Geez..talking about getting it off your chest....rating Barkley above Mount?  Strange one that.  Mount CFC Player of the year, played in the Euro's; Mount can't pass? remember the killer pass to Havertz in the CL final.

Could well do as they will pay Mino, Haaland senior and Jnr the combined 80mill or so in fees to make it happen.

Just imagine Tuchels training will make him even more dangerous, and  aware, Welcome back big Rom, show Utd what they threw away.
