And I somehow hope he does because I can't imagine how sh*t he feels right now. I'm not sure he does rate him. I feel like he will play both Kante and Kovacic over him every time if he had them both fit.
August 27, 20223 yr A reminder of Gallagher's Whoscored playing characteristics, based on his last 2 seasons (i.e including when he was at Palace). The clues to what we saw at Leeds and today are all there ... Weak passing, Weak Discipline, Commits fouls often ... I really don't see him making it with us ... looks well out of his depth.
August 27, 20223 yr Really hope that Tuchel doesn’t give up on him. He has had some good moments but unfortunately has played in our worst two games.

But i got a real sense from pressers over the last 12 months that tuchel was really excited to get him in the squad. And I also feel that's why we've not been actively trying to sign a midfielder.

Not sure if this can be taught. 100% it can be taught and more importantly, if the player has a shred of intelligence, it can be learnt. JT was on occasions very rash and made challenges he didn't have too when he started out. He learnt from experience and gradually erased them from his game.
August 27, 20223 yr Steep learning curve but I hope we dont give up on him, fans included. Reece was not this good when he started either.

TT let him have it with both barrels for nearly killing the game for us. I think he will have some work to do to get back in his good graces.

Yes it was an opportunity TT couldn't afford to let slip. I bet he has had some strong arguments presented to him by Connor on why he should be in the team and he may have fielded him with reservations so it was a chance to say son, you're not there yet. Let's slow this down a bit. I personally think he should be bought on at the end of games because of the energetic style he plays with. It will be good to give tiring teams and their manager a new problem to find a solution to when he's introduced.
August 27, 20223 yr Genuine question, why is he played alongside Jorginho today rather than with Mount behind Havertz and Sterling? Surely Loftus-Cheek is a better option for the midfield 2 and you want Gallagher further up the pitch.

I think he would have been introduced that way if Mr. Glass 1 and 2 were able to stay fit for a few frames in a row.

August 28, 20223 yr Bad day at the office. He will learn. Too soon to give up - he’s started two games. Must improve quickly.
August 28, 20223 yr For people who said he is not the last man. IMO Gallagher should let Barnes go and just have a sprint race but he was the last man.

He definitely should have let him go as Trev would have either beaten Barnes in that race or fouled him himself and probably just got a yellow.
August 28, 20223 yr Think he's trying too hard on the day to dominate play, didn't have to foul players for both yellows but he did. He's not on his debut season, should know better than that. The fact Tuchel picked him again today showed he had faith in him, so pretty sure he will get game time once he returns.

If Conor makes same move without the tackle Barnes will end up in a 50/50 with Trev while Cucurella is charging back towards the middle. Either way Trev either wins the ball fairly or gets a booking for bowling him over. The angle will make it not a red. Actually nevermind I dont think there is anyway Barnes beats Trev in a race. August 28, 20223 yr Not going to judge him on defensive discipline given he is so young, it will either get better (Gerrard) or stay terrible (Xhaka) but what worries me is that he isn't really technically good enough to play for modern day Chelsea in CM, and that's not something you can really improve alot at after 22. I don't think there has ever been an example of a below average technical midfielder turning into a maestro further into their career. They pretty much gotta have it already before 22.

Xhaka at 22 was the captain of Borussia Mönchengladbach and had already won two league titles with Basel the previous years so I think he is even behind Xhaka at the same age.
August 28, 20223 yr So many strange analysis. Gallagher is a goalscoring midfielder and he is playing as a dm. It is normal that he does not look comfortable and this will take time.
August 28, 20223 yr Still think Gallagher is nervous but he looked to have settled nicely yesterday other than the yellows. The first yellow was the stupid one. But he was passing the ball around nicely otherwise, not trying too hard. Best I’d seen him this season, I was on a boat for the Leeds game and missed it.
August 28, 20223 yr I thought he looked alright at the start of the game when we played 3 in midfield, made some good tackles to win the ball and looked to get forward, but that second yellow was just pure stupidity. He's still inexperienced and I'm sure he'll feel awful for letting the team down so we'll just have to see how he develops over the season.

He gave the ball away a lot.
