October 16, 20214 yr Relieved to get over the line. No idea why people love Brentford and their brand of Burnleylike kick and hoof ball. No lap of honour for those twats tonight.
October 16, 20214 yr We really need to work on the offensive phase.. it’s a struggle we invite pressure and today we almost suffered because of it… been like this for a few games now .. against city didn’t do anything/ against juve nothing .. nothing against Southampton till 70 minutes and now this.. for ffs this was a promoted side..

We play like this after every international break. I’ve seen. The City and Juve games were worse than this but it’s getting tiring seeing us so bad up top. Especially after spending so much money.

October 16, 20214 yr Why is everyone surprised, this the same brentford team that spanked Arsenal and drew with Liverpool. They’re no pushovers. coupled with the fact that this is a west London derby of course they’ll be pumped for it. What matters is we got 3 points. On to the next fixture

October 16, 20214 yr Brentford at the very least deserved a point if not all 3. For the 2nd half we looked like Fred Karno's army and if it wasn't for Mendy we'd been f**ked. None of our players 2nd half showed any heart or desire and were outworked in every aspect of the game. RLC faded 2nd half as we began to get overrun and we lost control of the midfield. Defensively I'm not sure, Chabolah looked lost at times, although Sarr got caught out a few times he had a decent EPL debut; Christensen and Mendy like a rock as always. The rest were a shambles may be with the exception of Chillwell. TT needs to sort out the dross that is our attack because right now it's not working at all and we are looking as toothless as we have been for the last couple of seasons. Top of the league, how, I don't know.
October 16, 20214 yr Mendy obviously superb but the defense was brilliant. Absolutely got out of jail there. Have to give Brentford a lot of credit there, they are some side.
October 16, 20214 yr That´s what Apollo must have felt like when Rocky just kept coming. Damn. Huge three points. Mendy MOTM, but play of the game goes to Chalobah. The awareness to move onto the line from his position was unreal. That was the defensive equivalent of the Salah goal against City. Lost control when they introduced all the attacking players and Tuchel took off Kovacic for Mount, who was completely invisible. Edited October 16, 20214 yr by ElTerrible
October 16, 20214 yr Surprised it took Brentford that long to put that back three under pressure. Most disappointing thing for me was how we panicked… but these are the wins that help win titles….reminded me of 1-0 win at Blackburn in 2005 that

October 16, 20214 yr Wow! I’m not sure whether to be relieved we got through or impressed that we could grind out a win like that. Well done to Brentford, they will give a lot of teams a good match. In the grand scheme of things it will do Chalobah and Sarr the world of good to be involved in a match like that. Still top of the league, onwards and upwards. Edited October 16, 20214 yr by 2211
October 16, 20214 yr Talk about a game of two halves. We bossed the first but were hanging on for dear life in that second. Brentford were always going to try and stay in the game and then throw everything at us and boy did they throw everything at us. Good defensive, dig-in display but have to say we were lucky to get the three points today.
October 16, 20214 yr I doubt for some reason that if Rudiger and Silva played today Brentford would have been strolling for fun in our penalty box. We also missed and still missing a good playmaker with accurate passing ability. We got lots of midfielders but not in the Fabreqausqe mould. Now that we have Lukaku another piece of the puzzle is missing... a proper playmaker. Edited October 16, 20214 yr by rocker_joker
October 16, 20214 yr We have the best goalkeeper in the world. That 2nd half in terms of defence was very good a few mistakes but, overall good job well done. From an attacking perspective worrying, will be hard to win the title like this, 1 shot on in the 2nd half. We only won this because Ben can actually hit the target. Not enough penetration from our midfield. Poor decisions from Kova and I'm a big fan of his but, he doesn't play it quick enough or pick the right pass more often than not. Ruben excellent runs power and pace but, needs to pass sooner. Too often he dribbles and either loses the ball or gets fouled which sometimes can be soft fouls. Timo didn't score but was positive throughout offered himself as an option and popped up in some dangerous areas. Probably should have shot when he tried to lay off for Lukaku but, that's hindsight had the pass gone through that's a goal surely. Lukaku didn't get nearly enough service looked ineffective like the recent narrative of our games, needs the ball sooner released into space. When he did get the ball in the box looked to be lively. Tuchel recognised Kova was ineffective with through balls and was on a yellow and brought on Mason who did his job once he came on. Overall impressive performance from a team perspective especially defensively but, we need to improve in attack they had 17 shots 7 on target we had 5 shots 1 on target. This season will be a slugfest one way or another but, we need to create more chances, quicker through balls, identify the early runs from the fwds. Good job lads good job Tom and the coaches and good job to the away fans who we couldn't always hear sometimes because the Brentford fans were rampant! As were their players because the momentum favoured their team.
October 16, 20214 yr Special note also to Trevor and Sarr, I worried about Sarr at the start because I'm not fully convinced due to pre season and the cup game. Fair play to him he stepped up both him and Trevor showed how they are always up for a fight.
October 16, 20214 yr Really struggled as soon as Toney pulled onto Chalobah. Sarr isnt good enough either, did okay, but we definitely got away with one today.
October 16, 20214 yr That last save from Mendy was something else. Reminded me of that courtois save vs Sunderland last minute Edited October 16, 20214 yr by azpi28
October 16, 20214 yr I think another possible contributing factor into our lack of aggression is the actual ref for this game. I would not be surprised at all if Tuchel had warned our players to be mindful and extremely careful in duels and challenges as the bold prick ref creams his pants giving our players yellow and red cards on a slightest or even made up pretext.
