It's basically since that hospital stay that he's struggled. Yep. He's defiently overpriced and in hindsight (with Hall's emergence and Maatsen going from strength to strength) we probably shouldn't have signed him but I don't think he's been close to as bad as people make out.
January 21, 20233 yr Thought he put in a shift defensively today. Mostly rendered Salah ineffective. Still haven’t seen much from him going forward but I still think he will come good. Sounds like there’s some off the field family stuff that has impacted his play.
January 21, 20233 yr He played well today - nice to see and keep building on this. Guarantee he finds full form right as Chilwell returns! Its also not surprising to see him play well next to Badiashile who offers a level of stability and coverage at LCB that has been missing.
February 3, 20233 yr He's decent defensively (aka doing the bare minimum) but completely awful offensively so not sure where he fits in considering out game is heavily reliant on attacking fullbacks. He either needs to step it up or he might not be seeing the pitch again once Chilly is fully fit.
February 3, 20233 yr There's a good reason Murdryk looked ordinary in the first half, he was up against 2 or 3 with no support from Cucurella, and not enough getting early balls from his fullback. It's a pity Potter saw it the other way and subbed the wrong guy. Defensively he was decent, but fullback role is no longer just doing a decent defensive job. Let's hope Forest or whoever comes up next season has a crazy shopping spree and Cucurella off us

Let's hope Forest or whoever comes up next season has a crazy shopping spree and Cucurella off us He is sadly not a modern day full back, he's the kind of fullback that you bring on when you want to defend a lead. I'm finally beginning to understand why he was being put in LCB when we were playing with three at the back. Massive downgrade when we got rid of Alonso for him.
February 3, 20233 yr I don't want to judge Marc too harshly it's his first season and he's achieved something no other player in history has done and that is look like a top class player playing under Graham Potter, was by far Brightons best player last season and earned a move to a big club unlike his gaffer. He's been poor. Very poor but he's playing under the same terrible coach in a team that's struggling. I don't think we should give up on him yet even if he's been poor and may lose his place to Chilwell. He's better than what we've seen from him so far that's for sure.
February 3, 20233 yr We need depth as neither FBs stay fit. But Chilwell is better, not much else I can say.

February 3, 20233 yr Just now, just said: A lot better. Agreed. supposedly Cucurella has had some issues off the field, so that may explain his struggles. However Chilwell would be my first choice at LWB or LB if fit. If Chilwell hadn't been injured most of the season I would have to wonder how much Cucurella would play? Perhaps he will improve but on current form he may even be sold on as a flop.
February 3, 20233 yr 5 minutes ago, just said: A lot better. You could hear it in the crowds reaction when Chilwell came on. Finally! Someone who might overlap, take a player on and cross, rather than just recycle it.
February 3, 20233 yr Headless chicken at times. Last game I thought he was class against Liverpool but today he was constantly out of position and offered nothing going forward.
February 4, 20233 yr Cucurella, Malang Sarr, Lukaku, Hudson Odoi, Mount, Gallagher, RLC, Ziyech, Aubameyang. We have young Hall to replace Cucurella and feel no difference in terms and performance and Lukaku feels like a lost cause although we surely could use the Lukaku of Inter, the one under Conte. Others are simply not good enough for what this club is trying to achieve. If our selling game is still as good as it was under Marina Granovskaia, we could potentially get at least 250M for all of these players who would only play a bit part next season and frankly would not improve us that much in any context.

February 4, 20233 yr IMO he is at the level of a typical back-up LB. The type of player you sign for 5.6 million ... only problem is we paid 56 millions instead. (plus potential add ons)

February 4, 20233 yr I think he did very well defensively. They were clearly targeting our left side in attack, and he managed them well enough considering Mudryk had a very poor first half and did not help Cucurella in the defensive part of the game (which was much of the first half).
February 5, 20233 yr The level he has displayed.. you have lower leagues still of players of this quality and might actually do a better job.. he is weak in possession and when he goes into tackle.. players get pass quick look and atrocious on attacking phase.. what on earth did we see in him to spend 60 mil on??
February 5, 20233 yr Author Think people are being overly harsh. He played reasonably well against Fulham, especially defensively. He didn't offer much going forward, but that's not his sole job, to be an attacking outlet.
February 5, 20233 yr I think he'll be OK if he works on the flaws in his game. I'd day these can be summarised as 'defending' and 'attacking', but to go into specifics, I'd say his weaknesses include: man-marking positional play tackling heading passing lack of pace inability to go past an opponent crossing
