October 24, 20223 yr Not my preferred choice in a back 3, and should be played LB or LWB. That said, his substitution was purely tactical as he was playing no worse than anyone else. Was the logical choice to then add a man in midfield.

I don't really care about the transfer fee, transfer fees in modern football are too f**ked up to care about, so I see him as a decent rotation option for Chilwell, who so far has never maintained good form/fitness for a whole season as a Chelsea player. C’mon £60m for a rotation option is nuts. We can pretend we don’t care about transfer fees but we keep spending aimlessly, & the PL and UEFA will sanction us. Liverpool spent less than £60m on all their 4 FBs just to put things in perspective.
October 24, 20223 yr I just find it strange he was such a good key player for GP at Brighton but he seems to been off under GP lately.
October 24, 20223 yr Author Worth remembering he was in hospital a few weeks ago, and apparently lost quite a bit of weight. Probably should have been eased back in.
October 26, 20223 yr I know he has been a little bit underwhelming so far but last night I thought he was really good. Much more like the player he was at Brighton. He defended well last night and IMO is more forward thinking than Chilwell when he’s on his game. Hopefully this is the start of some good form for him and we can have 2 decent left backs pushing each other.

On the other hand City spend £50m+ on Walker and Cancelo each, not to mention Mendy.

On the other hand City spend £50m+ on Walker and Cancelo each, not to mention Mendy. This is a joke right? Just because they are going through a bad moment doesn’t make their FBs poor players. And before anyone comes for my defence of Trent, Klopp uses him as a playmaker in his system. The pair of Roberson & TAA have returned 14 goals & 61 assists in the last 3 seasons, compared to our pair who have returned 15 goals & 22 assists. The last time Pep spent £50m on a fullback was in 2019, and he came out that season to say big money players are unwilling to sit on the bench and pick up their wages. That is why he spent £11m on Sergio Gomez who won’t push for transfer due to a lack of game time, instead of meeting Brighton’s £50m+ demand for Cucurella.

You've just answered your own question, Trent uses them as playmakers to spam crosses all game hence the inflated assist numbers. Trent is an average full back hence why he doesn't get a look in outside of Liverpool for the NT. Reece James is incredibly clear. Robertson has always been more of just a work horse, both Ben and Cucu are much better footballers. You're as good as your last game, and Liverpool have been sh*te all season. Trent being exposed for the shocking defnder he really is now.

I suspect he would have been given more time to recover had it not been for all our injuries in defense. Chilwell has been rotated too, so as to limit risk of re-injury.
October 29, 20223 yr Remember last season when Chilwell got injured and we were left with a past it Alonso as cover for wing back? Yeah, that is why we bought Cucurella. Now that we have Chilwell and Cucurella, you would expect at least one of them to play every week. But Potter, for some odd reason, seems to think Cucurella is better off playing CB every week because he played a few good games there for Brighton. He also thinks it's a good idea to drop Chilwell to the bench. Brainless.
October 29, 20223 yr Imagine playing a LB at LB. Second manager we got who loves playing players out of position.
October 29, 20223 yr Author Was poor, but him and Chalobah both left massively exposed by terrible wingback choices.
October 29, 20223 yr 6 hours ago, Andy2461 said: Did we really buy this ? Yes we did, for 62mill in the summer. We also spent nearly 50mill on Sterling to play wingback...
October 29, 20223 yr Think whoever scouted him must have watched the same highlights the rest of us did. Simply not worth the money we paid and couldn’t handle the booing today.
October 30, 20223 yr It's pretty ridiculous how Potter is managing Cucurella and Chiwell. One is playing out position, the other one not playing. Having said that, Cucurella didn't want be there yesterday, just hide all game

October 30, 20223 yr Some ex players turn pundits are saying we wasted our money on Cucurella, saying 62mill was too much. No sh*t guys, he was a 15mill player for a club like Brighton that fights to stay in the PL. If we got him at 20mill as a chilwell back up fair enough, but at 62mill you should be getting a top class player, not one who is poorer defensively in offensively than Ben.
October 31, 20223 yr If we wanted someone versatile to play CB/LWB/LB we should've gone fir Ake. Cucu seems very average in all positions.

Hah I forgot all about our attempts to sign Ake. Yeah I think he is better than Cucurella in all the positions Marc plays and Ake can actually play CDM as well. Now City did not want to sell him to us and so did not, but worked hard to sell us Sterling rather than give him a new deal. I wonder why?
October 31, 20223 yr It just hurts when he plays LCB and Sterling as Wb. Cucurella not up to speed after illness und height is missing on the left side. Chillwell or then Alonso won like every header after a goal kick und defended at corners, now not so much.

November 1, 20223 yr Bit soon for people to be saying he's not good and the transfer was bad. He's only recently turned 24 and was rated highly at Brighton last season. £60m was too much, sure, but so was £60m+ for Pulisic, or £70-80m for Havertz, and many other of our players. Chilwell was apparently "too much money" when he initially joined us and people were laughing at the fee.

It’s too soon to write him off.
