May 21, 20242 yr I wonder how some of the players feel about Poch leaving. He finally had a few players off the injury table and the team playing well and this happens what an absolute joke of a club we are
May 21, 20242 yr But McKenna is totally untested at this level. The only place you go from League One then the Championship to top 4 in the Premier League and being competitive in Europe is with Roy Race at Melchester Rovers

May 21, 20242 yr Having had time now to think about it further and form a more nuanced and articulate response, I'd like say f**k Clearlake and the whole God damned ownership group. May they f**k right off.

He jumped from Pep's lap to Arsenal.

Those games were only five minutes ago and whilst the last few games saw a run of positive results, the end of season on the beachiness was creeping in and it’s hard to say that we were looking like City’s closest challengers for next season all of a sudden. I actually have no idea what’s for the best or what on earth is going on, and that leaves me pretty neutral on today’s news. Lord knows what these looney owners have in store for us next though. Can’t say I have any faith it will be good, whatever they do.
May 21, 20242 yr Brutal. I was in the Poch out group, but the timing is still shocking. This decision was probably made weeks ago, why not do it then? Absolute clown show. I still support the decision though, we shouldn’t let the results in the past few weeks tower over the fact that we were dreadful for 95% percent of the season. Don’t forget the no-tactics-just-vibes approach, constant tweaking of the back line, baffling sub decisions, the infamous halftime talks, the endless and pointless passes between our CBs, players out of position… The lads obviously loved him, and that was the only good thing he had going for him, which sadly isn’t enough, especially with young players who desperately need rigid and well thought-out tactical instructions in order to grow. If they gave him another season, he would’ve had my full support, as I said in the last match thread, but what is done is done. Still, thank you for at least giving it a go Poch. Hope you succeed elsewhere. My personal favorite replacement would be Flick, but I know that can just as easily turn to sh*t. Great coach, but he seems to be a ticking time bomb. I would also be glad to see TT back, seems very unrealistic though. That being said, please ban me if they hire De Zerbi, because I will most certainly be a miserable c**t in the match threads. I am done with the unjustified Brighton obsession.

May 21, 20242 yr Author For me the anti owner backlash to this is a little more to do with a dislike of the owners than genuine desire to see Poch stay. For the majority of the season the direction of travel has largely been that Poch is a dead mam walking and would be lucky to see out the season. Now he has been dismissed there has been a bit of a sea change of material scale. Yes there was an upturn in results but was it really that impressive? Not convinced personally. If he'd got another season I wouldn't have been too fussed and would have accepted he probably merited it. Am I going to lose my sh*t that he hasn't? Not a chance. Don't think he is good enough to lead any team to challenge regularly for trophies and ultimately that's where the club wants to be. So not losing any sleep over letting him go now rather than later.
May 21, 20242 yr Pochettino leaving by mutual consent is the best possible outcome. I do not believe that he could improve this team any further. Despite some decent results in the second half of the season were very lucky to win some of the games such as United, Bournemouth, Brighton and even Forest. Under his guidance we had the worst defence in the last 30 years. One decision that will forever baffle me is why was he so reluctant to try Ian Maatsen as a left back, where he was was amazing at Burnley and now at Dortmund. Instead the Moron tried him a few times as a left winger. just for that reason alone he had to go. I hope we get a new manager who can improve our defence as I honestly believe we can match any team in Midfield and attack. Please...........................no one from Brighton . I think Amorin would be my choice.
May 21, 20242 yr This has been done and agreed weeks before. There’s no way the club carried out a “review of the season” on Monday morning and then sacked Poch at 11.30am on Monday.
May 21, 20242 yr “The end-of-season review was very analytical. Understand the leadership team, especially Behdad Eghbali, came armed with data. Some 'negative' data was presented to Pochettino showcasing some of Chelsea's season-long inconsistencies or weaknesses, including missed big chances and failure to make set pieces count. Pochettino's position has always been Chelsea's young and injured squad contributed to some expected shortcomings, but the end-of-season momentum, and #UCL form since Boxing Day, showed clear improvement. There was consensus between between Pochettino and Chelsea that there was a strategic mismatch and the parting was thus mutual. Although Todd Boehly said publicly that Chelsea were playing some "beautiful" football of late, a view echoed by other senior executives at the club, overall opinion was divided on Chelsea's style both now and in the future. Leadership team had to also consider what Chelsea might look like next season under Pochettino, not just now.“
May 21, 20242 yr I'm not going to pretend that I am suddenly a fan of Pochettino as a coach, I think apart from the final month of the season, he has made massive amount of errors, our football has been largely terrible and defence the worst it's ever been. At the same time, I was willing to give him next season seeing as he had us finishing higher up the league than I thought we would finish. Putting how I feel about Pochettino aside, it does feel odd. Fans were clearly in a better mood, the stadium doesn't feel as toxic on match days, and the players did seem to be enjoying the football a lot more. So what has gone on between the owners and Pochettino? I feel like it's obvious. There are talks that he wants to have more say on transfers, and I don't think it means on who comes in, but more on who leaves. I think the club are 100% going to sell Gallagher and Chalobah, and with the pair of them clearly being two players Pochettino is fond of (especially Gallagher) I don't think Pochettino can accept the owners selling him, and in all honesty, if this is true, then I can't blame him. You don't sell the players the manager wants to keep, especially if the player also wants to stay. This can't work in football, and if this is true, it's once again more proof that this group just doesn't understand the sport they are involved in. I don't know where we go from here. The names going around have me more worried than when we first hired Pochettino. De Zerbi leaving Brighton just seems like too much of coincidence for me and I really don't want a coach who's whole positive reputation is based on a new manager bounce at Brighton. He's been crap this season and Brighton fans seem happy to see that he has gone. This club eh, we can never take a breather. Edited May 21, 20242 yr by Scott Harris

May 21, 20242 yr Have to say I'm a bit surprised after the upturn in form. I also have to say this feels more like a sacking than a resignation. I never thought Poch was going to win us titles but given the inexperience in the squad I thought he was the right man for next season and stood as good a chance of getting top 4 than anybody else. Yes I want us to be top 4 at a minimum but realistically I cant remember any team ever having a complete rebuild over one season then going on to have discernible success the very next. The signing of young talent alone indicates a lack of a coordinated transfer policy and this problem won't dissipate in one season. Our lack of experience will show again next season. Especially with a new manager. The owners have put themselves under a lot of pressure here. Unless they come up with a wonder manager who gets us trophies and champions league next season they are going to look a bit stupid. Who knows? Maybe they've secured Klopp's signature.

This is true and a fair summary, certainly of my thoughts. The only bit you haven’t added though is that the frustration is ramped up due to the paucity of elite talent about and the likelihood is that this group, far from trying to build a long term, sustainable strategy, are about to hop on the back of the snake and take us back to the beginning with yet another unremarkable appointment that we have no option but to cross everything and just hope it turns out right. If we're going for a punt I'd prefer Oliver Glasner to Thomas bleeding Frank or RDZ. But it's going to be another lottery isn't it.

May 21, 20242 yr Rumour has it we're going to get an AI chat bot as our next manager. Lawrence and Winstanley will type in a load of data and then staple to the dressing room door whatever it spits out.

People are reading that Pochettino's desire to have more control in transfers as relating to purchases. What if the crux of all this is actually about having a say in who gets sold. With free hitters like Gallagher and Chalobah becoming the mainstay of his team and with the noise about Enzo not fitting his style, Mudryk meh, Madueke I'm pretty sure he wasn't having, all of these Winstanley and Stewart players I can see how they would feel that they were being mugged off with Pochettino's credit rising. In a power struggle like that of course the SDs would win. Pretty sure these boys are going. Isn't it true that Gallagher's contract discussions still have not moved. Did you see that video of him and his dad on the pitch. Shameful if we let him go really.
