Chelsea v Liverpool (PL) Sun 13th Aug 2023 16:30 GMT

Featured Replies

I am it has to be said a little suprised at the lack of enthusiasm on here after that...
We played more entertaining football in the last hour today than in a month last season.
I enjoyed the game (can't remember the last time i said that !) and most of our young players looked hungry and energetic.
Very positive start for me, only concern is James ??

Really enjoyable game and The Bridge getting right behind the team.

Plenty of reasons to be cheerful.

Looks like we have a number 9.

Carney grew into the game and showed potential.

Enzo is quality.

We appear to have a coach who know his chops.

Can't wait for the next game.

Improves his chances more if he aims for the corner instead of hitting it straight at Allison. The first chance he should be scoring. Even if the best miss them, they also know they should be scoring them. We can't make excuses for him, we need him scoring goals and as soon as possible. Can't be going a few months into the season with him on zero goals and bucket load of chances not taken.

Don't put pressure on our striker. As long as the team is doing well, any person can score.

You are playing against Alisson and yet you are too critical about the striker. We have many great goalkeepers and defenders in the premier league, therefore, a striker may not even score many goals.

As long as the team is doing well and scoring goals, no problem with the striker.

Liverpool with no midfield, Chelsea doesn't have a PL striker, Reece James injured... is this a continuation of the 2022/23 season?

When you left The Big Board there was a general air of celebration from your fellow Brighton fans. No idea why you've pitched up here. Mumsnet are always looking for posters why not give it a go?

I should have known that a lot of Chelsea fans don't know whether to go to North Stand Chat or The Shed End.

65% possession and more attacking football. Chelsea looking much fitter. Chelsea had more energy. We were unlucky not to get the 3 points.

Our players are fast, athletic and quick footed. What we lacked in the early part of the game was experience and that will come with. . . time.

Once this team gets to play a few more games together they will really start to look good. Very good signs in this performance.

On my way home from the game after a quick pint and a chat about the match.

Superb atmosphere at the Bridge and some very good performances and looks very promising for the future. Silva had his usual great game and Chilwell made some brilliant runs and passes on the left. Unlucky that his 'goal' was ruled offside. Gallagher got better as the game went on.

One of the guys I go the games with couldn't make the match so one of his relatives who is over from Australia had his ticket. Her first match at the Bridge. She said that she really enjoyed the game.

Whilst waiting to get into the ground we noticed that one of the stewards is the spitting image of  Cucurella. He got some friendly stick.

WATP.

It was an ok performance, no better than last season in terms of result but can see work in progress.

I think the most telling thing today was how ordinary Liverpool are, such a shame we didn’t take them.

Thought we played well after we settled. Good ball retention, movement and we look much fitter than last season.

Silva was his usual assured rock in defence. Thought Enzo , Chilly and Reece James had a very good games.

Gallacher grew into the game. Jackson looks a ‘proper striker’. A willingness to show for the ball and run in behind their defence.

Good strikers score goals, if Jackson doesn't score goals, then he isn't a good striker. Every league has good goalkeepers and defenders, but the good strikers find a way to score. The players we have signed already struggle to score goals as it is, so Jackson will need to be relied on for goals.

After last season’s dross I thought this was much better.  We are not the finished article but we had 11 blokes on the pitch who have the makings of a team - and looked like they gave a sh*t.  We wont win the league but we will compete for top 4.  For the impatient amongst us, think back to losing 6-0 at Rotherham and remember how far we have come since.  Up the Chels - whisky and soda for me tonight.

Good overall performance

Fitness levels look a lot better

Players prepared to run for the shirt...the fans in turn give good vocal support

Enzo was quality today, he ran the show and is far more effective 20 yards further forward from last season

Jackson put himself about a bit...he will be a handful for defenders this season, hopefully, the goals will follow

Colwill had a very good debut as did Disasi

Sterling had an effective game, Gallagher, too

We were a little open at times and it'll be interesting to see how we cope with West Ham next week who will put 10 men behind the ball

Liverpool and ourselves seem to bring the best out of each other and often produce good games

The first game I've really enjoyed in over 12 months,

Back from the game and all I can say is that I’ve enjoyed this game more than the entire last season. Many positives and we’ve seen for the first time in a year a group of players playing like a team and putting in a great effort. A shame that we could not beat them, really.

Great to see the match going friends again and Eden Hazard was in the players’ family area behind the shed lower.

Good to see that there seems to be the usual suspects on here willing to give the new manager, new young signings a bit of time to settle in. NOT.

Some of the comments on this forum in the first 30 mins are a f**king disgrace. Writing debutants off after a few minutes, WTF.

I don’t expect Chelsea to push for the title this year, I’m looking a couple of decent cup runs but most of all I’m looking to watch Chelsea and enjoy what I’m seeing. Today was the first time in what seems like years that I can say that I enjoyed that match, the way we played and the attitude even though we didn’t win.

I don't want to sound too gushing too early but with Caicedo and a fit Nkunku out there and we win that game comfortably and if this first game is an indicator we have the potential to have a pretty good season. Bit of depth needed and this could be a really enjoyable year to be watching us.

Really positive start of the season, that was not a bore draw 😁 Plenty of attacking intents, lots of energy and hunger on the field. With no European football and few more coming in, I think we will have a strong run in the league. Yes, only 1 game, but lot to look forward to.

Thought it was quite a good performance , maybe a 7.5/10 overall , I was getting flashbacks to lampards first game though when salah scored, but gave then very little after that bar the error playing out from the back by Sanchez.

Jackson, James , Gallagher and enzo the pick of the players.

Sanchez is going to be strong under the high ball. Disasi's distribution is imperfect. As good as Gallagher was, and I am a supporter, Bissouma showed against Brentford how much more a no 6 can be.

I thought Carney played pretty solid maybe 6 or out of 10. He kept the ball well in tight spaces and linked with team mates really well. Switched play from side to side, what he didn't do was break the line or shoot.

Action Jackson had a mixed game, pretty good but could have done better a couple of times.

Sterling that everyone knocks together with Reece really played great footie down the right aided by Enzo finding them in space.

Colwill was very strong, like the other young guns he will play better yet but I was impressed in a very tough opening test for him.

And Silva was fantastic, not just in defence but in starting the attacks.
