The John Terry Appreciation Thread

I do have to agree with Neville and Carragher on the timing been weird.

Who knows but perhaps the timing was meant to take some of the attention away from the players, same with Conte saying Spurs are the best team at the mo. If we as fans are feeling the pressure you'd think the players must be too.

Truly a changing of guard, so may as well go full in, Garry not good enough but assume he will stay on as we need a senior player in the squad, matic is so sub par most of the time, Willian doesn't do enough for me anymore, need all those positions upgraded, and proper fullback/ WB options, this was a bedding in season that went way better than planned, the squad over hall that didn't really happen in the last summer window needs to happen

I have been fortunate enough to see some of the true legends of our club play throughout my time as a Chelsea supporter (actually,it's 52 years ago today. April 17, 1965 home Vs W.B.A.  2-2 after being 2-0 up!!.) the likes of Osgood, Tambling, Bonetti, Harris, Venables, Wilkins and so on. But you can mention any player in the club's history and they won't have the same status as regards of honours won, loyalty shown and 1 million % commitment to the cause of the club than John Terry. There was plenty of talk on more than one occasion about him leaving and signing for the likes of Spurs, Arsenal and Man Utd, but each time he turned all of these away and professed his undying love and commitment to the Chels' and whatever crap he had to take on a personal level, and there has been plenty of that throughout his career, he never let it affect his game once he was on the pitch.

I say a massive thank you to the man for everything he has given to the club and us supporters through his career, and wish him every success in whatever he does in the future.

Cheers John, you're a tough act to follow mate ::clap2::::clap2::::clap2::

Absolute legend. Can't praise him enough for what he's done for the club. Phenomenally good player and fantastic captain through our years of unprecedented success. Totally deserves all the adulation he gets from Chelsea fans and i hope that banner will stay in place for years to show our appreciation for his massive part in our success.

The sniping from opposition fans and tossers in the media is to be expected as he's had more than his fair share of controversy, but, as with Lamps, he's been underrated while being the best in his position for a decade or more. It's great that people like Carjacker can say unhesitatingly that he's an all-time great.

Not sure what the future holds for him but i don't blame him for wanting to keep playing a couple more years. You're a long time retired and he seems to have looked after himself well and worked incredibly hard on his fitness over the past few seasons to prolong his career. Like Lamps I hope we'll see him back at the Bridge soon.

Let's just pray we can give him the perfect send-off in a few weeks.

I admit, it still kind of get's to me when opposition fans say things like "he's a horrible human being" or "scum". It's over the top and pathetic, it shows up football fans for the idiots that they are really. They just repeat the same sh*t time and time again. It's not even funny, it's just embarrassing. So many people like to act all squeaky clean but i bet you can find fault in their character if they were being followed by the media every day. I also bet John Terry has done better things in his life than these idiots. What is their contribution to the world when John Terry is donating to kids charities and giving money to a family to pay for their kids funeral ? Screaming abuse at footballers, getting drunk and fighting rival fans is all they bring to the world. The funniest thing about it all is that if these hypocrites met Terry down the pub or on the street, they wouldn't hesitate to ask for his autograph or a selfie!

I've posted this on the board before but as it's my favourite JT picture, I'm gonna share it again. A real f**k you to the haters...

Thanks John, I've been blessed to see your career through to being the best centre back in the world at your peak IMO and you've given me memories I'll cherish forever.

Might be my new favorite Chelsea picture right here. Brings back a lot of memories of the old guard. They done so much for this club, I'll never forget. What an era!

I wonder what picture of JT is going to be made into a statue eventually. I mean, we all agree he deserves one, don't we?

Great article by Pat.

http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2017/04/pat-nevin--johnny-t-good.html

In his column this week, former Blue Pat Nevin reacts to the news John Terry’s career as a Chelsea player is coming to an end and reflects on Sunday’s Old Trafford match…

Let’s get the word legend out of the way immediately. John Terry has been a legend at this club and always will be. It is obviously an overused word in the modern era, but what is unusual is when anyone is actually considered a legendary figure while they are still at a club. In fact, JT has had legendary status for many years already in these parts and rightly so. The announcement he is departing was going to happen at some point, but it really will not seem like the same club when he has gone.

There will be plenty of homilies over the next few days and weeks and I suspect John, like most players, will be thinking about many things. He will be proud of the time he has spent at the club, the number of games he has played, the number of goals scored and denied, the captaincy of his club and his country, the trophy haul and of course, his leadership during the greatest era in the club’s history.

He will be equally proud of the way he treated many people around the game. For all the negative press he has had, you will find precious few people who have met him who found fault with his demeanour and attitude. Even that is secondary however. What he will want to be remembered for above everything else is for being a good player, a very good player, and arguably a true great even in the international sense. Personally I think he continued to improve right into his 30s, centre-backs often do, but his ever-growing intelligence on the field and his reading of the game really set him apart.

So the tributes will roll in and there will be many a montage built of his goals and tackles. What really has jumped out in the past few years has been the quality on the ball and the way he has rarely looked rattled. If it comes to him at any angle, it will be controlled, dealt with and passed - sometimes exquisitely to a team-mate 50 yards away. In simple terms, he is an extremely good footballer in every imaginable way.

I suspect John will want to enjoy the last year or maybe two of his career, and to really enjoy that time, he has to be playing regularly. In my years watching, playing and commenting on football I have never met another individual who is so clearly cut out to be a manager. This is without doubt what he is going to do in the end. No one is a certainty to be successful in that particular job, but he is as close as you can get in my eyes to a stick-on.

Even so, I think he is right to carry on playing a little longer. However good management is, it doesn’t touch being a player. So John, enjoy it, you have put in the time with Chelsea and you deserve the swansong wherever your heart desires. Something tells me that one day we will see him back at the club to continue this incredible story. The most influential player the football club has ever had, do not be shocked if you are needed again.

It would have to be something like this? It just epitomizes the man and his style.

I only started watching football in 2003 and supportes Chelsea because they were the first team I saw play in blue. But from that game on, I was hooked and John Terry was one of the first players I ever remember loving. He's played a big part of who we've become as a team and you know be is massive when my mum knows who he is!

Captain. Leader. Legend.

Wow. So this is it. I've been following Chelsea since I was a young kid, and JT has been the only every present, it's going to be really strange to see us as a club without him around. The true definition of a club legend, and even if he joins another premier league club, he'll still be one of those few 'one club men' in my eyes. We need to win this title for him, send him out on a high note and let him lift that premier league trophy one last time. People are saying it's a strange time to announce it, but I think it's a good time, it should galvanise the fans and dressing room for the run-in with Spurs on our heels. Captain, Leader, Legend. Thanks for everything JT

Has anyone read the article on the BBC by that prick Mcnulty? He references JT and the champions league final, putting his strip on and describes it as 'someone with his nose pressed up against the window looking in on the glory'

I mean, f**king come on, I can understand opposition fans being bitter but this is your f**king job mate. It's disgraceful people think that if you play a key role all the way through a competition and miss a final whether it be to suspension or injury that you're less deserving of winning it or getting a medal.

Sorry to put a negative in here but it makes my blood boil, next they'll be saying if you're on the bench in a cup final you've no right to celebrate, absolutely ludicrous.

Maybe he hasn't dodged a drug test like Rio Ferdinand, he didn't knock out a DJ like Gerrard, he never tried to deliberate break a players leg like Roy Keane and he wasn't caught shagging his brothers wife like Giggs.

But he did deliver the first Champions League win to London, captain more games than any other player, score more goals as a defender and won more premier league titles than any other captain.

Focusing on his 2 indiscretions when we are talking about a player with one of the greatest records in modern football is ridiculous. Glad we are all celebrating the GOAT.

He achieved more than Gerrard did by a country f-cking mile yet the media response to his leaving has had a night and day feel about it in terms of how they've covered it, Personally i never had an issue with the guy, Didn't like him but respected him something which Stevie Me and Shrek haven't been able to earn from me.

I echo all the above sentiments 100%, but for years i used to bang on about what a brilliant footballer he was, not the warrior defender, but as the kids say his "Tekkers, i remember reading Lamps saying when he joined us, i need to become as good and develop a touch like JT, i personally just love the guy to bits for just being the JT every fan really deep down knows he is....

Love this picture, "i may not be deemed worthy to play, but you're in my heart Chelsea"
