Timo Werner

Evissy, I am certain that these flaws surfaced because of his desperation to succeed or at least try and prove that he could. As I posted earlier, he scored 34 goals for Leipzig in his last Season and you don't do this, without having some idea of the offside rule, although admittedly we didn't have VAR then.

I think he tried too much in many cases. Thought Prem defenders are faster and so on. He stole for no reason in many cases. He was also massively unlucky many times.

Yeah. A key factor for me is that, given his heavy involvement at the business end of the pitch, only minor adjustments are required for a significant potential impact (goals). We’re talking fractions of seconds in the timing of his runs, for example.

He actually only has 0.8 offsides during a match in the EPL whereas it was 1.6 times in the Bundesliga last season. On 90 minutes 0.9 to 1.4. I cannot tell how many goals were ruled out by var the seasons before - but he had even a lot more offsides in Germany than he had now. And the referees in the EPL fall easier for him drawing fouls than they do in Germany especially since his dive against Schalke that caused the "Werner is a son of a bitch"-shouts everywhere.

Interesting.. at least he seems to be on the right path then :)?

He needs to score goals on a regular basis no arguing with that, but he should be getting more credit for making the runs that are key in our movement. Against Real and in the final he made those runs and created space for Pulisic to score from and Mount to pass into a huge space for Kai to score. Two key moments in winning big ears.

His movement is good but I can't imagine him doing anything else but running towards the left wing at the moment when Chilwell gets the pass, not only would it be natural for him but I just don't see any other striker running towards Kai or coming even deeper in that situation, it was a counter so him running correctly is the one thing that he can't ruin.

I'm hoping that now after winning the CL that he will play without the pressure and just score goals for fun, this season is over so he can just look forward. Even if we buy Haaland it could be a good partnership but he would need to fight for the spot in the starting lineup with Pulisic I think.

Werner never was the stable guy. Even last season he had a long period without goals and needed a match against Mainz (he had a good game in the last match before that there with a hattrick) to get his self confidence back and score a hattrick then, too. He is very good when he is on song - even clinical - but he will always have very unstable periods and so he can be of help with his runs - is not known to be the great big game scorer or scorer in Cup events.

I do not know if age and experience really change that. Even Lewy has opponents and venues in which everything has to run fine for him or the ball really fall in front of his feet like with a penalty that he scores - and others where you can time goal festivals as he has very good memories that help his self confidence.

I expect the Euros to re-energize Timo, I think he'll get his confidence back and return an absolute beast. Notice how his earlier goals last season saw him coming inside onto his right foot from the left hand side. When he lost his confidence he started going on the outside with his left foot to shoot from harder angles or put in passes.

Working with the German international coaches should be enough to help break him out of his slump. Add in Tuchel having a full preseason the real Timo should be a more common feature next season.

Lewandowski really became consistent when he was 27.

The talk with Werner is always all about his finishing but his problem imo is not really finishing. It is the fact that he can only contribute one way which running behind. The rest of his game is average at best.

The problem always happen when he can't run behind. Against highline defense, werner will have 5/10 opportunities to run in open space, against packed defense you get only 1/2 maybe even none. When this happen, he is pretty much a passenger,

Last season after game against city, pool or Madrid everyone will say Werner was great then the week after that we played weaker team, we are back to he worked hard.

I really can see Werner being moved on, he seems to be starring  in his very own perpetual ‘Car crash movie’, I got one for him, ‘Gone in 60 seconds’ 🤔😎

He will have one more season to prove himself. Though I doubt he will be able to win a spot either as a forward or attacking left winger. Probably a good option off the bench.

He seems like a really genuine bloke, a hard worker, someone who will put the shirt over himself; for that reason I can't say a bad word. He is really struggling with his finishing decision making though, big time.

Hear me out, I think when he was at RB playing off of Poulsen, he was a completely different player; a SS (not that SS) who would use the CF as a pin ball. If, IF, we sign Haaland (or another equally WC forward, which leaves only Lukaku), playing Timo off of him might actually take a huge weight of responsibility off of him and I think that will return goals when he has those chances. He's overthinking it, it happens to us all when we are under pressure. Now the problem this presents is, where will he fit in to this role in a 3-at-the-back system? He doesn't. He'd not take Mount or Havertz's position; for me he would work very effectively in a 4-at-the-back system. For example:-

----Haaland/CF----

Werner-----Mount-----Havertz

You'd leave the 3 behind the CF to do their thing, the two behind them (potentially) would be the moppers and the ones that stick to a more rigid positioning.

I'd love to see it happen; unfortunately we won't sign Haaland or a WC CF, we will panic buy, Werner won't hit a barn door and we will barely finish 4th.

We can only dream though.

What you are trying to do is not new,Lamp tried it and Werner struggled playing as lw and you are back with people talking about he is a st not a winger.

i dont think scoring 30 goals is a fluke.. i think a good preseason and rest will do him a world of good. If he gets his act together.. he is nailed on for 20+ goals a season.

Lukaku will elevate him I believe.

Got to have someone to play off instead of being the target-man himself which he was for most of yesterdays game.
