The better team won today - no doubt. We were tired and had 2 days less rest than Chelsea, and the correct approach was to high press the hell out of United, which we're tactically susceptible to anyways. You had the ball in better areas and took more initiative. You also pushed your wingbacks so high up the pitch that Rashford had to keep dropping back in the whole first half, which took away the only threat we had going forward. Bruno was good but he had no one to pass out to. Lampard clearly watched how Southampton troubled us and the mistakes were repetitive. Credit to Reece James, Alonso and Azpi who had terrific games and snuffed out any chances we might create. Giroud's movement today was very good as well. Ole clearly had the right idea when he predicted and tried to match 3 at the back, but the moment Bailly went off we lost all shape and immediately conceded. Since then Lampard outclassed and outthought us, and you didn't even have to bring on Pulisic.

De Gea had 2 howlers - they're getting more frequent these days. He's won 4 POTY awards for us and has been our only consistently world class player since SAF left, but he's just fallen off a cliff since the World Cup debacle. We're at a very awkward place where a club legend is single handedly losing games for us. I have no idea how Ole will handle this - since DDG still has 3 years left on a mega contract. Henderson is clearly the better keeper on form, but how can you just dump a 29 yo keeper who still has world classes reflexes in some games?

I have to also acknowledge Jose and Lampard's comments on the refs favouring United worked all game. Chelsea committed 20+ fouls and got away without a single card. I understand a Chelsea forum might not agree, but that was foul by Zouma on Martial and should have been a penalty. Rudiger/Azpi/Kovacic in particular kept committing City-esque tactical fouls and got away with it, and United didn't have an answer for that. Perhaps it's karma for all the luck we had against Palace.

Just an overall bad day in office - our unbeaten run had to end at some point.

To be honest I looked at your line up and wondered what on earth OGS was thinking.

If you badly wanted a place in the final why are you leaving out Pogba and especially Martial and Greenwood, who have been terrific of late. It made no sense.

Yes there was still Rashford and Fernandes but worrying about those two rather than all 5 I bet our defenders breathed a huge sigh of relief.

OGS messed up as badly as De Gae imo.

In any case great job to Frank and our lads, outstanding. Hope we repeat it against Arsenal.

Yeah I expected Pogba to make more of an impact but he never did. Flatters to deceive a lot doesn’t he. Must be so frustrating for United players. The quality is clearly there but he doesn’t ever seem to be 100% in.

What’s up with De Gea? Reckon the club will try to flog him and bring Henderson in?

Pogba is the sort of player who makes good teams look absolutely great - not the kind who will single handedly lead and inspire his team to results by himself. Today the team was having an off day, and there wasn't much movement up front, so he started complicating things and sulking when he didn't pull off ambitious turns or lofty passes. This is in contrast to Bruno's attitude who kept finding good passes, ran his socks off and was committed till the last moment. On a good day, Pogba will make us unbeatable  - on a bad day he will need to be carried by rest of the midfield.

I don't think Ole will be allowed to write off such an expensive financial asset - so he'll sugarcoat that narrative and continue displaying faith in him by publicly backing him and giving him more chances. But there's a ruthless side to Ole which he doesn't reveal in the smiles and jokes of his pressers - more mistakes and he'll drop DDG for Henderson at the first chance he gets. Ole has already been telling Henderson he values him - there was a presser the other day where he said Dean Henderson was 'England and Manchester United future No.1'.  Henderson WILL play in goal for Man United, the only question is when.

I personally think Henderson should be recalled next season and De Gea should split time with him until he either gets better or gets replaced. What Ole will actually do to handle it is anyone's guess, and it is a conundrum I dont envy. We had a similar situation with Rooney towards his late years with us as well - club record goalscorer, one of the greatest players ever to wear a United shirt - and he was consistently the worst player on the pitch while earning a fortune every week. Jose took care of that, but this one's Ole's can of worms to open.

Bruno Fernandes is a great buy. Best player in the Prem since he got here. His through passes are very very simple but effective. Couple of very pacy forwards latch onto them and bobs your uncle. I think teams should just have a player on him all 90mins and foul the hell out of him. That would just be smart. Next season for him will be much harder as teams will just try and stop him.

Anyway we deserved the win today even if De Gea didn't give us that Mount goal.

Great job from Frank for setting us up like he did. That 5 man mf line is very hard to pass.

I concur but what team will be willing to take his astronomical wages... Us signing him on potential instead of workload and effort was our undoing but we had no choice with Hazard leaving and the transfer ban

Fair comments, and whilst i agree zouma did foul martial, it was outside the box, so it didnt fall under the remit for VAR to intervene.

Both sides are on the raise though, hopefully we can stop the scousers winning the league next year.

FACTS!! I was going to say the exact same thing . They have been helped with the space between games hence them always playing the same 11. It finally caught up with them and they would have had the same problem even if they had 2 more days of rest just look at their performance against southampton ,hopefully we still have some gas  in the tank against liverpool because that is the game that counts

Massive props, always welcome here any time, even though we can be a pack of twats ourselves, hope you stick around! You'll still qualify for Europe, wouldn't even worry about that.

I'll even admit we got away with a lot of fouls this game, the Martial one was a freekick but not a penalty I think, I'm 100% certain it was just outside the box. In terms of refereeing performances we definitely got the rub of the green this game. As for De Gea he should be saving the first two, especially the 2nd one, that was awful. 3rd one he could do much better also, looks like you'll have to move on from him.

But f**k me I have to say, you can't persist with Maguire, truly awful defender when under pressure.

The thing is, it wasn't even 48 hours, it was nearly 3 full days since they played their last game. We have been in the same situation many times and this would have been no different had they played a Europa League game on Thursday before playing another game on a Sunday.

We were in the same situation a few times in 2012 we went on to win the FA Cup and Champions League.

Yep I remember that full well, we had to play Spurs in the Semi Final, Barcelona at home and Liverpool away all within the space of 6 days just because those scouse c**ts refused to play on the Hillsborough anniversery.

Simply Ole wants to play the same line up(Squad) that has beaten Chelsea 3 times this season.BUT Failed.

For what it is worth, United has had the easiest fixture list since the resumption of play. Not say they are utter ____, but a little overrated.

Don't look now, but I believe the three clubs with the best record in the PL since the return to play are:

Tottenham

Arsenal

Chelsea

Come on you Chelsea!!

Wow. What a dominant performance. Not a bad thing to say about any player. Mount put in a tremendous shift. Remember all the slack he got from here in past few weeks/months? Good to see him back amongst the goals too. Lamps tactically outsmarted OGS today. James put in a dominant performance too. Giroud will get majority of MOTM but for me Kovacic is my MOTM. He was sensational. Was just whizzing and gliding through that midfield effortlessly. Love watching him. Such a top player. Bring on Arsenal in  another final again!

Attention switches to Liverpool now. Two big games left. If we can put same effort we did today, no reason we can't beat Liverpool to and qualify for UCL.

or is it just me been a bar humbug

If you’re miserable after that win, there’s no hope for you

I know that you are used to getting all the penalties and decisions in your favour for many years, but saying that a possible foul clearly outside the penalty area is a penalty, it's just absurd. I would not even expect that from Guardiola or ManCity.

What a f**king win folks! We were fantastic today, the goals were a little fortunate (thanks De Gea) but they were deserved.

We have to beat Arsenal in the final, twice in the FA Cup final we have lost to them we owe them one.

Does everyone think we should stick with this formation now for the rest of the season?

Agree on Pogba. As good as he can be, I wouldn’t want him in Chelsea’s team. Bruno and James though both look excellent signings.

Reckon Ole will keep his job or do you think they’ll bottle it and sack him for Mo Po?

Feels good to take the wind out of their sails, if only for an afternoon. Haven't lost in months and have beaten us three times this season but in the most important match they fumble.

Contrast with the home league game all too obvious. We actually ran today, even to the last minute the spirit and competitiveness was on show.

Well done to Frank and all the team.

Reece remains useless in defence but very good going forward, excellent crosses. Jorginho and kova were solid and Mount worked really hard. Rudigier is a clumsy player but puts in a big shift.

YESSIR especially with playing wolves on the last day of the season and it is their formation. We got raped by sheffield utd when we tried a back 4 against their back 3
