Obviously you may struggle however the general public with a brain can watch Regulion and realise he would make it in the PL. This arrogant approach that only suitable PL-ready players can be signed from other premier league teams is embarrassing.

Regulion also impressed against Man Utd and Wolves if people are so quick to dismiss performances against Inter and Roma. Regulion up against Traore was indication that he can handle one of the most dangerous players a left back is likely to face in this league. But again, let’s get back to saying he’s not ready because he plays in another league.

You are starting to grate now and I'm not sure that anything that I have posted makes you feel entitled to try to insult people. Please provide me with any examples where I have said that only players from other premier league clubs are good enough. Please as I am truly interested in seeing this having spent in excess of 20 years enjoying watching Gullitt, Vialli, Zola, Flo, di Matteo, Desailly, Makalele, Leboeuf, Pettit, Fabregas, Drogba, Eto'o ....need I go on.

I have merely said, and stand by it, that you cannot possibly know whether this guy would be a success in this league. Why would you just assume that it is a given that he would be able to cope with the physicality and intensity of this league Morata alone is a prime example where it is not guaranteed that a player can apply themselves in the same manner in whatever league.

Apologies that I don't have your level of intuity but I suppose it's that old arrogance thing again, trying to express a reasoned argument. Silly me.

The old adage 'can he do it on a wet wintry night on Tyneside'. Surprising how many fail that test.

Chilwell we at least know what we get, Reguillon and Tagliafico both have good credentials but could just as easily be the next Emerson who were touted by many on here before he arrived.

Leicester fan here in peace

So it appears Ben will confirmed as your player in the coming days so thought I would drop in give an insight into how its been recieved over our end

The lad splits opinion amongst our fan base, some think he could become the best LB in the league, others think hes severely over rated and the money we will get for him is excellent business for us, so heres my personal thought

Like Maguire, hes a good player but at the minute nothing more, we knew the 80 mill we got for old slabhead was rediculious, you pay that fee for a world class defender, which Harry clearly isnt, and I get the same vibes with the Chilwell deal

Hes good at getting forward and isnt afraid to bomb on, hes fairly quick and has a good engine in him, I cant recall a time really where hes looked shattered approaching 90 mins, ok in the tackle and positioning isnt too bad

But for all of that there has been more times then I can remember for us where hes got in a good position attacking for us and has either passed the ball backwards or put in an abysmal, no hope cross into the box (which is crazy as his deliveries for england would make you think otherwise) Hes very much a confidence player, the 1st half of last season he was very good, we were winning games, he had his head up and was performing well, but the games that changed the tide were Liverpool and Man City over christmas, both teams targetted our left side and absolutely ripped him to peices (particularly Mahrez who made him look like an amateur, he couldnt get near him all game) after that he wasnt the same player for us, and ask any Leicester fan they will tell you since Jan (aside from games he missed through injury) he was one of our poorer players, on the topic of his confidence, we played Millwall in the FA cup a few years back and he refused to take throw ins due to their fans giving him no end of abuse (although this was one of his first starts for us)

Again you will get different opinions from all of our fans, for me hes a good professional, seems a cracking lad and does have plenty of years to become potentially a very good LB for you, but hes a player for us who I think we can easily replace (if rumours are true then it may be tagliafico which we will all be over the moon about)

He leaves with all my best wishes, I do genuinelly hope it works out well for him

So basically replacing a goal threat Alonso with and no goal threat Alonso but with the same weaknesses....right

That’s not what he described, at all.

I'm fuming and feel peed of with this signing, sometimes you have to just scratch your head and wonder why on earth are we spending 50mil on mediocrity, haven't we wasted enough on crap players previously.

Why don't you hold back your fuming until we've actually signed him...

I've got my doubts with Chilwell but we constantly saw those type of posts on Pulisic threads.

Chilwell is 23, far from finished and unlike Alonso he's a real Left Back. Alonso simply isn't good enough, end of story.

He ticks quite a few boxes - athletic, English, accustomed to the league, still some potential to work with, resale value, better aerially than what we've got (which is something given our set piece issues), and most importantly I'm sure Frank knows about his work ethic and conduct. If we can sign a left-sided Azpi for 45m it's not the end of the world...

He is only 23 and a full England international, accustomed to the league, has pace, puts in good balls, deals with areal threats, people are acting like we bought a dud, he is not world class but he is a good player with plenty of room to grow, it’s not my favourite signing but it’s hardly a disaster.

But can he defend and does he have good positioning?
If he can do that, then I don't care if they even give 70 mil.
As those 2 things are just as crucial for a LB

"Fairly quick. Good engine on him". Yip, sounds exactly like Alonso...

"Hes very much a confidence player, the 1st half of last season he was very good, we were winning games, he had his head up and was performing well, but the games that changed the tide were Liverpool and Man City over christmas, both teams targetted our left side and absolutely ripped him to peices (particularly Mahrez who made him look like an amateur, he couldnt get near him all game) after that he wasnt the same player for us, and ask any Leicester fan they will tell you since Jan (aside from games he missed through injury) he was one of our poorer players, on the topic of his confidence, we played Millwall in the FA cup a few years back and he refused to take throw ins due to their fans giving him no end of abuse (although this was one of his first starts for us) "

Well he also wrote that. Alonso is not quick but got a good engine. He also doesn't depend on his confidence as he performs independently, further he doesn't care if he gets abused see Spurs games. If Alonso sticks to the plan he won't get shredded by Mahrez see Man City game.

Age is in on Chillwell side. Mentallity so far Alonso is better.

Alonso is a big time player. For all these years in Chelsea I haven't seen him exposed in a big match with one or two exceptions when all the players had crappy performances anyway.  Au contraire, most of his best/highlights moments are from the very big occasions. His problems usually pop up against the mid/lower ranked opponents when both we play bad offensively and they play well defensively. Alonso is so good that we depend on his activity so much that his zone is left wide open and hey, since is a bad opponent, no one is covering his back...

Alonso is one of the good transfers we made in the last decade. Practically for no money. Don't put him on the same sentence with Chilwell, please cuz it's blasphemous.

Not a reliable source but in the Suns rumours, being reported he may have to have surgery on his heel

No other outlets have picked up on that story (yet), most reports (from the more reliable journalists) suggesting an agreement between the two clubs is very close. Previous reports were that Chelsea were kept informed of Chilwell's most recent injury check up.

Would be surprised if we were this far along in negotiations only to back out at the 11th hour over an injury we were already aware of.
