Conor Gallagher

I don’t think he is champions league quality - his head is down too often, slow to release the ball, and often can’t execute the necessary pass.

That’s pretty harsh though given how well he played at the weekend. I think he’s better further forward in a no.8 role, and with our depleted forwards he can offer a lot as an attacking midfielder. Could he rotate with Enzo higher up the pitch?

His commitment is second to none, and you can’t buy that.

Well, we're not in the champions league, so that should be okay 🤣

Wait, what?  Todd will get that sorted tomorrow - 150M and 8 year deal to play in Champions League.

At Palace he looked better pressing from attacking positions, he picked up a few goals from there too. In pre season, it was the same. Yesterday he struggled on the ball and gave it away or played sloppy passes with his back to goal in a deeper position. His defensive work was very good, but that is because he's a hard worker and likes getting stuck in. He's not a DM or CM though, he's an attacking midfielder with a few DM qualities.

I think Conor gets a ridiculously bad rap from certain people. Let's have some context - he's played one season for us - 22/23 which was terrible for us as a club but where he was arguably the brightest spot of the entire season. He's been fantastic at each club he's played on loan and for us he's given everything whenever he's put on the shirt.

For me he seems a player and a person who will fight to improve himself, and the club whenever he can. He has all the hallmarks of a player who deserves our respect and support, and who will hopefully be at the club a long time.

People readily dismiss Gallagher because social media tells them to. I've lost count of how many Reddit or Twitter personalities regurgitate, without evidence, nonsense like "you can't develop first touch". It is a statement based on the way FIFA and Football Manager games are programmed, not in reality.

AWB for United disproves that anyway, people on social media are just daft. He was horrific on the ball and got slaughtered by Utd fans for it. The summer before Ten Haag came in he hired a PT over the summer to work on his on ball ability and its really showed over the last 12 months. You can develop any part of your game with the right help.

Imo awb is still average on the ball. But the stuff that he does well, he is damn good at it.

The problem with fans this days, they listen to tacticos too much who think that pep's tippy tappy ball is the only way to play ball (until pep play uno reverse card and decided to play pulis ball 😁😁).

He's improved massively from where he was 12 months ago though. Not claiming he's Reece James by any stretch but he no longer plays like bambi on ice in possession.

Yeah 100% agree on fans. If i see one more Chelsea fan post their preferred Chelsea XI and use that 3-2-4-1 formation that Pep uses i might scratch my eyeballs out.

Actually FIFA is the one place literally anything can be improved on, you can even turn players from slow to rapid 🤣

But in general I think the level of natural talent gives players certain ceilings. In Conor's case, can he become a very good player within a well coached system with his tactical responsibilities playing to his strengths? Absolutely yes. Will he ever develop the silky touch and close control we see from Enzo? No, in my opinion things like that are either there or there not.

3 - box midfield - winger - 1 = good coach. Other system are useless. Defender has to be good on the ball, it doesn't matter whether he is a good defender. Gk need to be good on his feet, shot stopping is secondary.

You will see people talk about this time and time again and point out pep. 😂😂😂 Yet pep defender's are big, can defend and good on the ball.

Awb is average on the ball. Dalot is much better on the ball. But do you want a fb who is good on the ball but very inconsistent defensively or player who is average on the ball and elite at one on one. With you first choice, your winger need to be the safe guard for your fb, with your 2nd choice your fb is the safe guard for your winger.

Scanning through the past few pages in this thread, just want to say Conor is criminally underrated by many and is exactly the type of player we need to keep in the squad.

Versatile, tireless, loves the club, hard as nails. He can come on as a sub in DM, CM, CAM, or even on the wing in a pinch.

Plus that hair...

What's not to love?

I'm one of those who think he is nothing but a workhorse and overall an average player, but at the same time I think he's improved in the short time with Pochettino and put in a great shift v Liverpool at the week-end.

The thing is I've read quite a few articles on how FFP works and I believe the Chelsea boys will be sacrificed at the expense of Lukaku, Cucurella or Sterling.

With Gallagher, Chalobah, Maatsen and CHO is all about pure profit and I believe they will be put on the market and sold once Chelsea wraps up the Lavia deal.

It's around 75-80M worth of pure profit which is the main goal at the moment, whereas getting rid of Lukaku, Cucurella or Sterling for half the price they were bought for, or even less, would mean a hit on all the FFP work the board has done this summer and I believe they won't take any risks.

I hope we dont sell Gallagher. He gives me lampard vibes in that he might not be talented but he has the work ethic to be world class. Who would have thought he could do the defensive job to free Enzo against Liverpool.  He wont cause a fuss and will work his socks off for the club. Lets not forget he has an academy boy with a blue heart.

Think we need a player that's older than legal drinking age, plus he adds a few goals, even at worst of time. I could see us getting 75% of the possession against a team like WestHam, but we still need a player to put shots on targets, and we don't have much options in that area

It's his versatility for me. He's also still young enough to adapt and learn quickly and seems to have genuine love and desire to play for Chelsea.

Lampard wasnt a top goalscorer until he put in huge shifts for us. Could he be a legend like Lamps, can get close if he has his dedication and work ethic but Lampard is a generational talent we were so fortunate to have with us. What a player he was, Gallagher... Time will tell, fingers crossed he is 3/4 as good as we and England would have a crackerjack player on our hands. He's definitely dynamic.

I will take back everything negative i said about Connor.

Its only two games but i have being very impressed with him. He seems a man possessed and has improved his physical aspect tremendously. Body strength has improved alot and he is playing like a man rather than a boy, making tackles, passing and shooting.

So far he has being my favourite player. Long may it continue.

The only midfielder who's capable of hitting the target. With 10 men defending around the box, he's the most likely one to score or at least create chaos, just wasn't allowed to happen. We need him right now more than he needs us, to be honest. Let's hope we don't offload him for a quick cash return this season.
