I think TT was guilty of drinking too much of the Kante Kool Aid, and genuinely believed he'd have an injury free season after a summer's rest and some specialised training ... and that he'd be the answer to a better midfield. Once he broke down, I think the panic set in. The old "all your eggs in one basket" analogy, and absolutely daft as hell LOL.

Agreed! But I'll also extend this to the club as a whole. I can't remember the last time we actually invested in a midfielder, it feels like the club as whole even before Tuchel was more interested in spending on wingers, attackers, and defenders while they were relying on Kante, Kovacic and Jorginho.

He also thought Kurt Zouma was a better defender than Rudiger.

Zouma was by far our most dominant player in the air. I don't have to tell you that we are not exactly a great team in the air after last game.

I was no Tuchel fan and the football was awful but I didn't expect it to get worse under Potter. The last 3 games have been so painfull.

The high turnover of managers and staff has eventually caught up with us.

It is a significant period of time. Average performance over a period indicates reality over a small sample; it is 8 months of averaging below top-four form. I believe that is an indicator of what we actually were for a large period last season, and I'm not shocked that we had a tough start in this one. The writing was on the wall, for me.

Regarding James and Chilwell; didn't Tuchel have them this season? We also have everything to play for, so what is the reason for there being no improvement in performance? In fact, we looked worse this season under Tuchel with all of that going for him. Surely, we should have been expecting a replication of the start of last season?

We could not go into this season expecting the opposition to be as poor as they were last season; we needed to improve as we benefited too much from the opposition being terrible to get top four. This season, they have all improved and we regressed under Tuchel; I believe, had we stuck with him, we would not get top four as both our goal concessions and scoring were awful.

It is the manager's job to motivate the players, and if he cannot pick them up for the final run of the season then it is failure on him to keep them driven. Despite Tottenham and Arsenal having terrible starts (being 10 and 11 points behind us at matchday 15), we still only finished 3 and 5 points off of them, respectively. I wouldn't say it was particularly comfortable at the end, considering where we were.

We topped the form table until matchday 15 last season, but that period hasn't been replicated. It seems more of an outlier to our league form.

I explained why in my opinion the last 8 months weren't top 4 level but it doesn't mean it's on TT. No chill well no James, Covid and being pretty safe after on 34. match day at top 4. If Tottenham and Arsenal would have been better last season, I'm sure that Chelsea would have more points as well because the mentality is just different when you are seriously challenged. It just proves that TT was a f**king good coach as with all the sh*t going on last season, he managed to have Top 4 nearly secured on 34. match day.

you don't know the reason? it's pretty clear, had to rebuild f**king whole defense?? chillwell not 100% at all yet. No Kova, no kante for most games, Transfers coming very late. Many players not sure if the stay or not. Seriously is not always so easy to perform top level..

It's not on the manager but on the players, you need to focus 100% to win but if your brain says it basically just for fun now and other teams fight to stay in the league or to make it top 4 it's just psychological a different thing. or is Pep sh*t because he lost 3 out 7 then? or Pep at Bayern when he lost a lot of games after being 20p away. Can't motivate them can he?

Every good coach has a period of time when the team is not performing and most of the time there are many reasons for it. Look at Arteta, needed just time to built a nice squad, and sort out the players, Pep same, Klopp has a lot of injuries right now..but a good coaches they turn it around and seriously TT just did not get a chance when he deserved the chance.

Still feeling gutted because of Tuchel‘s sacking. Doesn‘t help that Potter hasn‘t really hit the ground running. He doesn‘t convince me yet and tbh I can‘t tell if he knows wth he is doing. I am really afraid that we sacked an elite coach with a title pedigree for a midtable manager from a country that doesn‘t produce world class managers. 😞

I know what you mean, it's difficult at the moment to have faith, but it's hard to criticise GP because he's using the players accumulated by five managers at the club, Potter was the last one through the door, when he has his own players i will not be so tolerant to this crap he's serving up at the moment.

Also depends on the ownership. Ken did his best and was a great owner imo, but the Chelsea he built could challange for cups and second tier European titles, as well as try to make the top 3 (or 4) to get a CL spot.

Roman's Chelsea started off by not accepting anything but the best and had no Cities or PSG to worry about. League titles and cups flowed but we bottle the CL on a few occasions. Then City grew with a better model and Liverpool built a top side and our recruitment failed us. The league titles dried up but we still delivered some European glory.

What will Clear Boehly Lake lead us to? To the Bates level? Roman's? Less?

Despite Roman's riches we only dominated for a several seasons. Utd and Liverpool were our big rivals and in the CL notably Barcelona.

City seem to be dominating yet so far have not won the CL it took us 8 or 9 seasons.

Not sure on Boehly think he will look for a formula (re keeping investment backers happy) rather than splashing big money.

You don't take a second division Ostersunds to Europa league and beat elite level managers if you don't know what you are doing. The list of managers Potter has wins over proves he's no fluke. Every manager has to start somewhere.

Was very disappointed with the Tuchel sacking and didn't want Potter. It's early days, but he's not exactly winning me over with some of these team selections and sh*t performances.

Am sure you will feel so much better after we have played Arsenal and Newcastle...

Good result and played pretty well. However, it is worrying how we really struggle to manage a lead till the end. You can‘t only rely on Kepa bailing you out everytime.

Still don't like wingers as wing backs, but at least the football was better tonight. I can't help but feel that it was more to do with it being a Champions League game than anything else though.

Potter has shown his flexibility as a manager. This is what he was known for. We are not playing for possession which makes matches much more enjoyable to watch. We are conceding much more chances but we are also creating much more.

So far I like what he has brought with him.

We have to understand that he's had no preseason so it's going to take some games for players to fully understand his style. Tuchel played it safe for a long time too just so he could slowly reel the players into his philosophy. Been impressed by Potter's flexibility so far though. Today's game was quite entertaining.

It worked out to a nice game tonight, but I’m still not convinced that Sterling and Pulisic should play as WBs. It takes away their danger, especially in the case of Sterling.

Still undefeated.

A similar start that Sarri and Tuchel had, mr Potter is a quality manager just give him the time to rebuild a bit in the summer.

Cash injection for midfield and attack. Get rid of dead weight.

Media said its the best start by any Chelsea manager for 116 years, which seems a bit odd as we've only been around for 117 years. Still, happy days

Our first year was epic.
