Cole Palmer signs for Chelsea!

Featured Replies

Anyway, welcome Palmer, I thought he looked good in the cameo against Arsenal, better than he did against us last season, so hopefully he is ready to kick on now, and be a regular premier league level player.

These kind of signings are fine for 10 -20 mil. But we could have purchased an established first team player like kudas for this.  I really hope their judgement is correct on this one, feels like an expensive gamble.

What a great signing. Never thought we’d be able to get City’s best prospect. From what I’ve seen of him he’s an incredible talent that can play either wing and has a good eye for goal. Also, he’s an English lad that’s been schooled by Pep’s coaching staff. He knows the league so won’t have to adapt. He’s only going to get better with more playing time.

Really think he’s an exciting prospect. Very creative and versatile. Our scouts haven’t just plucked him by chance from a few YouTube videos. They’ve likely followed him a long time and the club have acted fast once they knew he wanted to leave. Really think he’s one of our best signings so far.

The club is being treated like a start up at this point.. crazy money for crazy valuations in the hope that they make 5x-7x returns in the next 7 years of a VC cycle.. generally this means that they are looking at returns in the next 4-5 years.

English player with some experience, so price is not completely outrageous. I'm interested if he's signed as a starter, or just battling it out like the likes of Mendueke, Mudryk etc. I know what are we trying to do, but most players we signed in the last 12 months will take a couple of years to become proven league players, and couple of years is a long time in football.

Can’t see him starting in Sterlings spot just now. The opportunity to strat, if there is one, is wide left  or at 10. In a 4 3 3 he could replace one of the back 3. In the current system and ignoring nkunku and chukwumeka he would have push Gallagher out.

Not quite sure what to make of this one.  City boards generally think this is good business.

Seems a talented player, but in the very few clips posted here he plays it back/sideways more than forward, and doesn't really seem to have pace to beat his man.  Curious how this materializes on the pitch.

Don't know much about him so will wait and see before offering anything. See what Pochettino will do with him.

Apparently Joe Shields really wanted him and Lavia here, so he got his way. Let's also see if we are right to put faith in his judgement.

On the plus side he has already scored against Arsenal & Sevilla this season. On the negative side, £40+m is a lot of money to pay for a lad with only 19 Premier starts for City. But as said by others, he fits the profile of the majority of our signings. Definite ability for Poch to develop. I am quite excited by this !!

He doesn't burst past opponents, he beats them with; ball control, body control, and speed of thought.

The cost of football transfers has gone beyond the ridiculous, proving conclusively that we pay too much for tickets, TV subscriptions, merchandise, and stadium food. As long as we pay it however, clubs have no incentive to charge us less. Cost apart, I like this deal.

I've liked him ever since the 2020 Youth Cup Final when he tore us apart. Admittedly our 18s were past their dominant peak by then, but he outclassed us, Our line up for that game included Tino Livramento (our best performer that night) and Levi Colwill.

With all the young players Pochettino has to develop he'll be a dark room on legs.

Seems comparable in price to Bradley Barcola. Barcola a tally a bit pricier. Wonder which one will do best. Maddison was the steal.

Maddison seemed to be injured a lot?

Palmer is a better player than Barcola right now, but the price is silly.

Let's not forget that Sterling made his bones playing on the left hand side and cutting in. Is this an opportunity for Sterling to play left hand side and compete with Mudryk, leaving Madueke and Palmer battling for the right position. Nkunku and Gallagher for the 10 but with Enzo also having a free rein where the tactics require it.

We shd have just bought kudus. Smh

Is Kudus PL tested? No. He could end up like Antony. Cole Palmer looks a very good player from what I've seen, not afraid to shoot from distance either which we need more of.

Palmer isn't Premier league tested either . Making cameos for City doesn't make you ptem tested.  As of today kudus is a better and more accomplished player. I guess palmer has potential but too many of our players are signed on potential.

Is he really any better than Mason Mount? Feels like “shiny new thing” type of signing.

Technically, he's streets ahead of Mason. Of course technical excellence on it's own does not does not guarantee that a player will be effective.

Pretty much all our players are. That's the tactic

We just need to lean in. It's a risk. I don't know what happens if it fails and am trying not to think about it!

But if it succeeds we are going to have a fantastic 10 years.
