I must have been conflating the two (for obvious reasons). I remember it being absolutely f**king freezing for one of them, think we ended up doing the bounce just to stay warm.
February 12, 20224 yr The paperwork for his move to Barca next season is "almost done" according to Cesc Fabergas. Apparently us and Rudiger have moved a lot closer to agreeing terms on his new deal. All the while everything is dead silent around Christensen. So one almost gone, one close to resigning and one with no news in terms of staying or clubs linked with him for a long while.

People are saying now is the right time to move him on, and I don't think he will stay even if we wanted him to, but I am not one of those that would be quick to get him out of the door. What he offers us is hard to replace, and we will notice it when he's gone. His ability to foul the sh*t out of opp yet barely get yellow is irreplacable
February 12, 20224 yr Win the Club World Cup Final in a few hours time, and he will have won every trophy on offer.
February 12, 20224 yr We apparently have an option to extend his contract, I hope we take it. He lasted the 120 mins tonight in heat and humidity despite his legs going. His influence on the younger players will be immense in the dressing room, having won the lot and his captaincy.

Although I can see why it may be good to have Dave stick around (Leadership, depth etc), I think we will do the honorable thing (as Chelsea usually tend to do with club legends), and let him go for a multi year contract and payday at Barca. As a Spaniard, I imagine that would appeal strongly, ending his career in his homeland, at one of the big 2. He would go out with his head held high, having won the lot as captain.
February 12, 20224 yr Always feel letting good servants go buys us spiritual goodwill. Nice too that he has won the lot.

February 12, 20224 yr Só glad that he’s won it all with us. Great man, honest and hard working, a proper Chelsea legend. Will be sad to see him go to those weasels of Barcelona, but deserves to leave should he choose to. And he should have got the winning goal had not been for the handball.
February 13, 20224 yr First Chelsea player to win everything. If Dave leaves at the end of the season, he'll go down as a legend of the football club.
February 13, 20224 yr Quote Cesar Azpilicueta: "I expected the Palmeiras players to come around the penalty taker. I already told Kai he was going to shoot. I just tried to release the pressure from him, be more calm. With three minutes to go, it's an important moment. It worked!"
February 13, 20224 yr He's an absolute legend, won everything there is to win. Played everywhere across the defense and never moaned. Brilliant every position he has played. I absolutely adore the guy, top draw.
February 13, 20224 yr His career with us is completed. Came here 10 years ago as an understudy for Ivanovic and has helped the club won every trophy available at least once. Absolute legend. He's surely the most decorated player for the club or at least one of
February 13, 20224 yr At the start of his captaincy, I was worried that he wouldn’t win anything and the players would be serial bottlers. However I’m glad he’s won it all now, turned into a proper club legend. Ultimate professional. I also think he’s grown into his role as captain.
February 13, 20224 yr Perhaps we need a new banner along the lines of the old JT one : " Captain, Leader, Legend, Dave "

February 13, 20224 yr https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/60368258 Cesar Azpilicueta says he pretended he was going to take Chelsea's extra-time penalty in Saturday's Club World Cup final win over Palmeiras to take the pressure off actual taker Kai Havertz. Azpilicueta picked up the ball and stood by the penalty spot, with the Palmeiras players surrounding the defender to try to put him off. But the Blues captain gave the ball to Havertz, who scored to win the game. "It was a tactic because I knew how they are," said Azpilicueta. Chelsea defender Azpilicueta added: "I knew they were coming for the penalty taker, so I took the ball. "Kai knew that he was going to shoot so it was to release the pressure from him. It was a decisive moment and Kai is one of the best penalty takers. "I waited and listened to everything their players told me, and I think it worked which is the most important thing." The victory in the United Arab Emirates meant Azpilicueta is the first Chelsea player to win every major honour, having previously lifted the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League, FA Cup, EFL Cup and European Super Cup since joining from Marseille a decade ago. "When I arrived in 2012 I couldn't imagine the journey I would go on, added the 32-year-old, who is into the final six months of his contract at Stamford Bridge. "I'm really proud to be the Chelsea captain, leading the club on and off the pitch. This title feels very good because it's the first time in our history. The club deserves it, the owner deserves it and I'm proud we achieved it."
