May 23, 20206 yr Excellent news if true, means we've avoided losing a player for the run in and he hasn't used the situation (of running past June) to get his three year deal. He'll give us one last horrah before winding down at Spurs.
June 6, 20206 yr Given that a lot of clubs will be short of cash, I can see him going on a free transfer. Dare I say it, Spurs. I wonder whether they can afford his wages for 3 years though.
June 23, 20206 yr https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2020/06/23/chelsea-agree-short-term-contract-extensions-willian-pedro/ Good to hear that Willian has agreed the short term extension as he quoted during the break

I think he is an exciting player and the speed with which he can break inclines the opposition to hold someone further back yet despite this ability his end product is very inconsistent. Happy for him to move on this summer assuming players like Pulisic and Werner live up to expectations.
June 23, 20206 yr Great from willy and pedro. I think it wouldve been a pretty sad way to end good chelsea careers. We need a full squad for this run in, and willian has been decent this season. Hopefully now we get CL secured for next season, and give these boys a good send off with the fa cup.
June 24, 20206 yr Reports that Willian will sign for another 3 years. I think there are good news, when we play in 4 competitions it's important to keep players like him. He will fight for his spot and will be a great addition from the bench. Always worked hard for the team, he's good player, not really a player of numbers but he has got his part. I'd happily have him as a squad player.

Believe they’ve been in talks for quite awhile, this seems like a recycled rumor. Club offered 2 years, Willian wants 3. I do think it’s time to move on from him.

I was going to write I hope he’s doesn’t but he’s been a good servant to the club. if we played 442 I would be happy for him to sign for another few seasons but he’s played in a front three since he signed. He doesn’t score enough goals for the position he plays. If you just go by this season alone time and time again his final ball when in a good position isn’t good enough.

Its good to have a bit of experiance around but I dont think a 3 year contract is a good idea unless its staggered with a lot of pay for play clauses, if i remember correctly when giggs was at the end his contracted wages dropped each year dependent on playing time
June 25, 20206 yr Giving Willian a three year deal makes no sense to me unless it's on substantially reduced wages and there is comfort he won't get mumpy about not being a regular.I am not one who has a downer on Willian and he has been a good servant to the club over the years. However his input to games is clearly on the decline and has been for a while. Sometimes you just have to part ways amicably and I feel this is the right time to do it.Granted there might be some concern about cover as Pulisic and CHO have their injury issues and also CHO is still very young and not really shown himself to be at a top flight performance level yet. However Werner is coming in and is versatile and we are clearly going to be spending more money before next season. Not convinced keeping Willian is the right answer now.
June 25, 20206 yr Signing him up for two years with the option of a third, him knowing his playing time will probably start to reduce and taking a pay cut it could be worth it. Just to have an experienced head about. If he’s not happy and wants to move after that we can always let him go on the cheap like we’ve done with previous good professional players we’ve had (Cech, Cesc etc.). Unfortunately I think it’s probably in his (or more so his agents) mind that this is his chance for one last bumper pay check.
June 26, 20206 yr I thought he was our man of the match yesterday and think he will be hard to replace. Pulisic looked very good almost Hazard-like for his goal yet let's recall he missed quite a while out being injured so we need other fast and workman like players. Mount is one and hopefully Werner fits that category also. Willian has been very effective this season and if he goes it will be the with feeling he was a good player yet despite having talent never really reached the stars, was always promising this yet never quite delivered.

Really?? I thought he did next to nothing other than convert the penalty. All the attacking intent came from Pulisic and Tammy once he came on.
June 26, 20206 yr Just now, RIP Mourinho said: Really?? I thought he did next to nothing other than convert the penalty. All the attacking intent came from Pulisic and Tammy once he came on. He did a lot of hard running in both directions both attacking and closing down their breaks.

He’s not getting any better, imagine what he’d be like in a year or two time. He’d become deadwood with high wages, now definitely is the right time to let him go.

MOTM? Really? Pulisic, Christensen and Azpilicueta were all well beyond him. Although he did play well. I’m not a massive fan of his but I think he would be a good squad player for a couple of years but there’s key problems in that which is why I don’t think it will happen. - He’ll want too much money for a squad player. - We seen how he behaved when Conte dropped him to the bench for a while, he can be very petulant. I reckon he’s already agreed a deal to go elsewhere. He’s been a great servant to the club but I will be delighted to never have to see him take another corner in a chelsea shirt when he goes.

Lots of running with nothing created. Take away the penalty and what did he do last night other than run? For me that'd not a trait of a top level winger.

Well, he also created the chance that lead to the penalty incident. That and as mentioned before a lot of running and hard work, protected the ball a lot better than most of his team mates when we had it and played a few good passes. That to me is a good performance in this kind of game. He was overshadowed by Christensen and Pulisic, but after them he was our best player.

This is it, when a lot of other players play safe, Willian cleverly shields the ball and goes around his man and opens up the play. He can do it from a standing still position with some trickery and then break with speed. He is probably the best in the EPL at this. I'm not saying he should stay, no way for 3 years and so time to say goodbye, yet we will miss him as he has attributes I struggle to see in other players. Pulisic was very sharp last night yet that was anticipating and running with the ball, Willian is one the few players that can break from a standing still position.

That makes Willian the 5th best player on the pitch. Not something to scream about.

His work dropping deep and shielding the ball in tight spaces is about the best in the league since Hazard left. This sort of game suits him to a tee and plays to his strengths. His work rate tracking back is great and his ability on the counter is superb too. It's when we play against the deep defences and he has to create something in the final third that he struggles.
June 26, 20206 yr He hate Willian gets is just staggering never understood this when he leaves you will see the gap he has left get exposed. He's one my favourite Chelsea players of all time. His ability to run all game but still turn in on in the dying moments of the match to create a chance that led to our goal show's how important he is for us. Also that ability to go from 0 to 100 in an instant leaving defender's back peddling he a very difficult skill not many can do it very few. He deserves a lot more respect I hope he stays a couple more year's especially with so many young players around.
June 26, 20206 yr As far as I'm concerned whoever signs him finishes above us next season. Worth a 2 year contract imho. For me Ziyech replaces Pedro leaving us with a huge void to fill if Willian leaves.
