Pedro bids farewell to Barcelona team mates and fans:

Pedro Rodriguez returned to Barcelona on Monday, offering an emotional farewell to the club, former colleagues and fans, having completed his move to Chelsea last week.

The 28-year-old began: "This has been my home for many years. From the very first day I understood the Barça philosophy, from the youth teams to the first team. I managed to get there and make my dream a reality."

"I've learned from great players and managers. I want to give my thanks to them all, especially my team-mates."

With a mixture of pride and sadness, Pedro continued: "I remain with all the experiences I've had, of being a part of this marvellous club and its history. I leave with my head held high."

"I leave having learned from players like Iniesta, Puyol, Xavi, Valdes. Also from Leo Messi, who is the best in the world. They have also shaped me personally, with all the values of this club."

"I also feel loved by the fans and I'm sad to leave this place, but also content that I've given the very best of myself."

He also expressed his gratitude for the welcome received at Chelsea, noting: "My welcome there has been incredible. John Terry is an exemplary captain and I've been very well treated right from the start. I also have very good friends there from the national team and from La Liga."

Very emotional. I'm loving it.

When he was awarded the man of the match yesterday, he was shocked, humbled and extremely grateful.  I love that.

He will also take some of the pressure off Hazard, hopefully to the point where Eden doesn't have 4 defenders around him every time he gets the ball.  At least 2 of them will be sent over to watch for Pedro.  Or, if teams continue to send that many to Eden, then Pedro can exploit the spaces left open.

First Chelsea player to score and assist on their debut since Deco.

Ah good Captain JT

:jt:

So much love and respect

Iniesta is so distraught he's lost hair over it!

I once heard Barcelona considered sending Messi to us on Loan to toughen him up earlier on in his career. That true?

This was nice from Messi.

Messi was asked how it feels to lose such an influential and quality player such as Pedro, to which he replied "He is an incredible player and his qualities will be greatly missed here at Barcelona, it's not always common to have team mates such as Pedro." He was then asked what he and Pedro spoke about during their farewell talk, and Messi replied "I just thanked him for being a great team mate and friend during our time together, and also told him that i will see him at Chelsea next year."

Pedro, welcome to Chelsea and thank you for that dream performance! What a start! He didn't waste any time did he? We have lacked an elite RW for a while now and his quality and the difference he brings was evident. One player can drastically change the way things are done. This move has fixed a lot of problems for us offensively.

1. A top class RW.

2. Direct runs

3. Tracks back

4. Pressure off of Hazard.

5. Hopefully Willian in the centre.

Willy is a great squad player but watching Pedro is more evidence that Willian was doing a decent job while playing out of position but could never realistically be world class player in that area.

It is early days but I have a good feeling about this lad.

KTBFFH!

I don't think Willian will improve much playing as a number 10 either to be honest, I prefer Oscar over him. For me Willian lacks vision and he is way to indecisive for our attacking play. His finishing is also very poor.

Agreed! He lacks that aggressive mentality an attacking mid-fielder should have. I'm also starting to worry about Hazard. This last game he was almost stagnant! As soon as he received the ball, it was almost like he was confused what to do with it. Something's not right in the squad. The whole Eva thing isn't helping either! Now, every time our medical staff comes on the pitch, the opposing fans start mocking Mourinho. The only way for Mourinho to kill all that noise is to sit down with her, have a chat, & then bring her back.

Surely you're on a wind up?  :face_palm:

fairly sure the fans of many clubs also chant "f**k off mourinho" at least once a game. I assume what mourinho needs to do is sit down in front of a mirror, have a word with himself and then come back, yes?

That ball boy, Hazard should've kicked him a lot harder, he's just lucky that he wasn't time waisting when Costa was around. I remember he boasted about time waisting before the game, then after the incident people still defended him and these really strange people reported an assault to the police, mad times we live in.

I wish he HAD actually kicked him, the ball "boy" was just a big faker.

Just on Pedro, something that was evident in his "bad" game this week.

Firstly, when he signed, I was astounded that Barcelona had let him go. Pedro is a big game player, who has the perfect mix of composure, determination and ability(like Drogba) to consistently win big games for his team regardless of his form. I immediately assumed that Barcelona let him go because of his shaky injury record and that he was physically affected. The last two games certainly have blown that out of the water with his pace and agility there for all to see.

The problem I foresee with Pedro is very similar to what we've had with the likes of Schurrle. When it comes to off-the-all movement, Pedro is in a different ballpark to every other Chelsea player at present. He almost always presents himself for a return pass option. The sad thing is that we are not blessed with players who are encouraged to respond to that kind of football, who are apparently coached to seek linear movements and "safe" possession play instead of repeated combination. When Pedro scored against West Brom, it was a fortunate goal in the sense that he played and received a return pass with the only other Chelsea player who seems able to respond to that kind of interplay at present.
