Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Featured Replies

Agreed.      Chelsea management could not be so stupid as to have such a huge payout clause in Conte’s contract.  It would virtually guarentee that he would do something crazy to trigger that clause if it indeed existed .

I keep hearing this "he doesn't want to be here", yet I heard an interview within the last couple of weeks with my very own ears where I heard him clearly state he intends to honour his contract which still has 18 months to run.

Not saying he's been perfect and he has got things wrong but I still don't see a better man out there as long as he is backed and given the tools to do the job. The list of names of replacement we are being linked with, the candidates are frankly laughable (with the exception of Simeone) and would be a definite downgrade.

The only reason he says he intends to honour his contract ....is because ....if he walks out....then he doesn't gets any compo....he is not daft in that respect.....but he is stupid in keep picking Bakayoko ....

Nibsy and Yorkley. The shedend's very own version of Hinge and Bracket. I'm so glad both your life-support machines are still working. This place wouldn't be the same without you.

Good to see you back on here posting again Davey, even if what you do post is usually a load of old bollox!

I was beginning to think you had turned into one of these fair weather supporters who had given up on CFC now we are slipping down that league table

I think he might have been banged up and is out on parole again, like Pauly.  Maybe they were twos-up, who knows?  Very strange they both re-appeared at the same time.

One thing i noticed was that after Watford Conte said he "have no problem sleeping" even if the result was poor.
Last season he said this: "I don't sleep, sure. I don't sleep. After this game, this defeat, it's normal for me not to sleep. Not only one night, but for two nights. When I don't sleep, I reflect. And it's important to reflect.

To me it says he doesn't really care a whole lot anymore.

Yes and now Dorest, Star and Tea Bar Boy............What's going on?

Nothing like a "CFC Crisis" to get folk back on the old forum again!!

I think Conte not being sacked by now says a lot about the Chelsea board.

Maybe, just maybe we finally saw the light and decided sacking should be the last option now?

Conte is being a d**khead at the moment, but I really hope he turns things around and start winning games. I really can’t tell if he gives a f*ck anymore.

With our board I'm not convinced sacking is the last option, perhaps more likely they've given Conte until West Brom. If we don't win that game despite 3 days rest for the players I wouldn't be surprised if Guus Hiddink is interim manager this time next week.

Guus Hiddink would be a horrible choice for interim for me.

I'd love to have Jody Morris and Frank Lampard lead the team until the end of the season if Conte is sacked though.

What's this obsession to let our former players coach/manage our first team when they have zilch experience or only at a lower level? Big question mark is whether Jody Morris's approach will work for a Premiership team, and I get the impression Frank Lampard has not had any responsibility coaching.

They probably feel much more at home with Chelsea now, what with us going back to being the 80`s/90`s Chelsea and not having a clue what result we are likely to get. Fun times.

He said he won't be sleeping recently as well, can't remember after which defeat, I think the Arsenal semi final. I think he contradicted himself this time because he was being defiant over the press with their BS, pretty much saying 'You think you can affect me? I sleep like a baby, I'm not worried'

My biggest issue with Conte at the moment is his attitude.

I have been against pretty much every sacking of the Abramovich reign (even AVB), although in hindsight some were warranted.

I have always wanted to give the Manager the time & opportunity to turn things around. I have always wanted the club to put it's faith in the Manager.

I also think Conte is one of the best managers we have ever had at the club. Last season is only topped by Chelsea 04-06 for me.

The problem with Conte however, is that he genuinely looks like he doesn't want to turn it around. He looks like he has long since accepted his fate, and is now more interested in scoring points against the board than he is winning football matches. Essentially, he is just dicking about now- that's actually how I see it.

I am basing this on his bizarre selections (Barkley starting unfit & out of position / playing with no striker /refusal to adapt formation), but mostly his body language.

Last season he was bursting at the seams with passion, seemingly kicking every ball in his mind, swinging from dugouts, embracing every player after every result, and diving into stands to celebrate with fans.

At Watford on Wednesday, he stood there looking as disinterested as a Manager can look. He could have passed for being stoned, he was that much of a statue. He didn't flinch when we scored, and he didn't flinch when they scored. He looked like he didn't give a sh*t either way. And at the end of the game, he was the first man down the tunnel.

Not acceptable. I'm sorry, we need a leader, not some moaning man-child who is happy to see the clubs fortunes nose dive while he sulks it out and makes a point to the board.

I was surprised he wasn't sacked the morning after Watford. Not for the result/performance alone (which lets be honest was as bad as any result of the Abramovivh era), but for the fact he appears to be making it as obvious as possible that he doesn't want to be here anymore.

I am still willing to keep an open mind ahead of WBA on Monday. I will be behind the team and behind the Manager, but if it's more of the same (in terms of his body language) then I really don't see how this situation can be kept alive any longer.

It will be a very sad end to his tenure, but it will be entirely a mess of his own making.

Tbh we've only had two bad defeats. This month we have city, utd and barca. If we lose heavy to one of city or utd and baecelona give us a pasting, I don't see how conte will be given more time. Problem is, I don't particularly want hiddink in again AT ALL.

I am so hoping conte and the team pull this out and we go on to have a successful month so some positivity returns to the club, coach and players again.

Everyone talking like he deserves to be sacked...

why? because he has an attitude as every question is about his future, I'd have an attitude every time I spoke I was questioned about my future.

Now you have to ask yourself if it's hazard and co that are the genuine problem... remember 2 seasons ago when we were sitting almost bottom of the league....its the same players not performing the season after winning the league.

Don't get me wrong the signings have been pish aswell. Not one signing has been better than the players that are out on loan or that have left.

I think we need to get behind him and show him and the board we want him to stay, maybe give him the confidence boost he needs.

THERE' ONLY ONE TONY CONTE!!!!!

interesting but i do not agree with the last bit re training too hard. Guess same as last year for Jose. Win league, ease off, blame manager. If they do not want to play football, drop em. Simples.

Antonio Conte delivered a training-ground message to his Chelsea players to 'man up' as he made it clear he was still the manager, despite a week of speculation over his future.

Chelsea’s squad returned to work on Friday and were left in no doubt about what head coach Conte now expects of them after granting captain Gary Cahill’s request for three days off after the embarrassing 4-1 defeat by Watford.

That result had come on the back of a 3-0 loss at home to Bournemouth and prompted suggestions Conte could be sacked before the end of the season, when he is expected to leave in any case. Conte remains in charge for Monday’s game against West Bromwich Albion and needs his players to back up their claims they are still behind him with a much-improved performance. On their return to training, players were told that now was the time to prove they were men and to face up to the challenge ahead of them.

Conte had accused them of playing with fear and questioned their character in the immediate aftermath of the Watford defeat, and the Italian made it clear on Friday that there was no room for any sort of immaturity.

Publicly, at least, Conte seems confident his message will have hit the spot. Asked whether his squad could respond in the right manner to two successive defeats, he said: “We are talking about players who have played at this level for many years. Honestly, I think these type of players can find the right strength to fight the fear.”

Conte acknowledged that more bad results could dictate his immediate future, but insisted he did not fear for his position.

“I’m not thinking, for one moment, about the possibility of going away from this club,” he said. “My commitment is totally for this club, like that of my players. But, as you know very well because we are talking about football, a lot of times – I don’t agree with this – the manager and the coach depends on the results. In this case, we are having poor results. For this reason, we have to pay great attention.”

Chelsea fans have remained supportive of Conte, chanting his name in each of the club’s past two defeats, and the 48-year-old added: “I have to say thanks to the fans. From the start of my experience with Chelsea, they tried to stay behind me in every game, in every game, and they continue to do this. I’m very proud of this.

“They are understanding that I’m doing all myself, maybe more, for this club. I want to say thanks to the fans because they deserve the best and I’ll try with my players to give them the best satisfaction.” Conte has not absolved himself of any blame for a run of just two wins in their past 10 games and neither will he allow the Chelsea board to shift all the responsibility on to him and his players.

“In every situation, positive and negative. When you have this period with such poor results, you have to divide the responsibility between me, the players and the club,” he said.

Conte insisted record-signing Alvaro Morata would miss the West Brom match and admitted Chelsea were in the dark over how long the striker would be out with his back injury. Olivier Giroud could make his first start.

“Morata, no,” said Conte. “Giroud has trained and will be in contention. We are talking a lot about bad results, but sometimes we forget we are facing a serious situation.

“Players like Morata are very important and have been missing for a long period of time. I don’t know how long he will be out. We are struggling a lot to find a solution to solve the pain in his back.

“If you ask me whether he needs a day, a month or the rest of the season, I don’t know. For this reason, I’m a bit worried. You know very well the importance of the player.”

Despite Morata’s absence, Conte defended his decision to allow Michy Batshuayi to join Borussia Dortmund on loan by adding: “We took a decision. Now I think this is not important to say ‘we could have done this’ or ‘we should have done that’. We have to focus on the present to finish the season in the best way possible and not to have regrets for anything.”

After Mondays result and a few games before that to be fair I was all for Antonio to be replaced, as I thought the football we played, team selection, and failure to beat Wenger again was showing him up, but after a week of thinking about it, you know what? Who the f**k else we gonna get? We aren't big players in Europe anymore and we have a premiership winning manager in charge, so I'm back onside with him. May change again if we are poor Monday though!!!!!, "Antonio Antonio"

Problem is he will stick to the back Three and pick Cahill which will be exposed again

I think the challenge Conte has spoken of is he has changed the formation in the last two games and we've conceded quick goals. It's a double edged sword

I remain a big fan of Cahill, who is one of the best value signings if the Abramovich era, but he can struggle a little when pressed on the ball. Not to go all eggs and omlettes again, but I'm watching Koulibaly for Napoli tonight. His control under pressure and ability to circulate the ball quickly is superb.  We missed a trick not returning for him in the summer when he had a release clause.
