Alvaro Morata

Featured Replies

Can see the resemblance, they have that explosive burst of pace that allows them to get ahead of defenders. You saw it today with Morata and Toby, Morata just breezed past him in a sprint and toby isn't exactly considered a slow CB

Feel Torres was more agile though but Morata is defiantly stronger.

He looked more fit physically against Burnley. Seemed overly lethargic today but that's understandable I suppose.

The ball traveled faster than the Burnley game. It was waves of counterattack after counterattack. It also didn't help that Willian wasn't switched on for about an hour

He remind anyone else of Torres?

The good or the bad one?

He reminds me of Torres in many ways. His running style, his burst of pace, his want to get it onto his right foot, shooting technique is similar. He's not as quick as Fernando but he's definietly stronger.

Unfortunately, Morata has it in his locker to miss a few sitters. That seems to be the striker he is but it's not a problem if he's racking up goals. Lets not forget he was so isolated today. Costa would have struggled all the same.

Morata is a bloody good player, good with the ball at his feet and possess some very good movement but at times he may come across fragile. At the end of the day, we're using to having a bloke up front who could start an argument with a postbox so we need to accustomise ourselves to the change!

Not impressed by him. He was great against Burnley, but today the same weakness that was stopping him being a regular starter infront of Benzema. He is missing consistency and too often make such easy open goal misses. I hope he improve on that, cause we need regular goals from our striker.

I still think he might be lacking fitness after not featuring much for us even in preseason, though he doesn't look unfit. I think willian let him down a bit today as willian was mediocre. I feel pedro would have been more use. Alvaro does so much off the ball, especially the defensive side which often goes unnoticed but is important too.

The service to him bar that early chance was pretty non existent. Willian as pointed out above done very little despite Morata taking up good positions but the ball never came.

He will be a great player for us, I have no doubts

The narrative would be so much different if he just put in that header. Unfortunate not only because it would have got another tally on his belt, but also because I thought he did a lot of good things after. Found his way into good spaces and made good runs. Also helped getting the ball out of our zone with quality heading clearances.

Keep improving, morrrrata.

Oh dear. 1 miss and the Torres comparisons have started.

I think we got a good indication of Alvaro's development areas today. I don't imagine he found himself under the kosh, isolated against an excellent defence too often at Real or Juve. But he'll learn.

I think we will still bring in a striker before the end of the window. Llorente would be great as he was a mentor to Morata a Juve and has PL experience.

Give the lad a chance. His playing for a team who's style is completely different to Juventus and Real. It's not easy playing for a team who counter attacks against probably the best defence in the league and having to rely on Willian for any creativity.

Second lowest pass accuracy since Conte has taken over, no Hazard or Pedro. Baka not fully fit. When all those lads are all up and running then Morata will score plenty.

Chelsea are far from the finished article. Some of the knee jerk reactions are ridiculous.

Missed a sitter, but liked what I saw, even though there were just flashes...but it was always going to be like that today given the way we set up and absence of fit attacking players in hazard and Pedro (came on but clearly not fit) to threaten more regularly on the counter

It's hard to judge an attacking player on a game like this where they see so little ball, and when they do, they are so isolated they can't do anything when they do get it.

He obviously should have done better with the header. It was a great cross, and Morata made a great run...just misjudged the header slightly.

His first game, with the goal and assist was good though. He will get there. Once we start dominating games, he will come into his own, I'm pretty convinced of that. Shame we have such a tough start to the season. Some real tough games to come.

We could do with a 3rd striker option, as more of a target man, who can hold the ball up better in those sorts of difficult games. Neither Morata or Batshayui are really suited to that, and its good to have options.

When Eden, Cesc and Pedro return then the goals will fly as they're out main three creative players and when you factor in we pretty much beat Spurs without them (Pedro came on for 10 mins) then that should be applauded.

Like a Llorente.....

Can't really judge him too harshly. Costa struggled against spurs last season too, Its a tough battle when you are isolated and surrounded by alderwerald, vertongen, wanyama, and dembele.

He should've put the header away, 9 times out of 10 he scores, as he is very good in air.

If Willian got his head up more he would've had more to work with.

Can't wait to see hazard and fabregas in the team with him.

I can't believe people are slating him Jesus Christ man the guy isn't match fit no Pedro Hazard cesc we are not fully in form yet what I saw in his two game's for me showed he's top top draw

I thought he played ok, missed a sitter but that happens to any strikers. He showed some nice touches, ran good channels and always kept couple of defenders occupied on him. It must be a new experience for him, playing with limited possession and had to fight physical battles against 2 defenders. As soon as he went off, his replacement scored a wonder own goal, talk about irony.

No player should be judged too harshly after yesterday's game. It was a very different line up to what we will usually play, Conte had to make the most out of difficult situation. When everybody is fit and we have our main 11 players on the field, then it will be easier to judge how good certain players are.

I feel the Torres comparisons are based upon the way he plays not how bad Torres was for us. Well my comparison was a similar play style anyway...

Like I said, both players are quite tall but have this explosive acceleration that allows them to breeze past players, Torres at Liverpool caused absolute havoc with his pace and I feel Morata can have a similar impact. You saw a small glimpse yesterday when Morata breezed past Toby like he was nothing
