July 10, 20197 yr Is Jeremy Boga still with us? Seems to have disappeared ever since he started a league game for us under Conte.
July 10, 20197 yr The first half was a good watch. Batshuayi looked strong and looks really up for the fight of being our no9 this season. The second half was really poor. I think it’s time the likes of Brown, Baker, Piazon and Ugbo all moved on. No idea how we spent all that money on Bakayoko, he looked just as bad as I remember. I find it quite amusing that some people genuinely think he has a chance of playing for us this year.

The amount of these ‘fans’ throwing their toys out the pram because a team full of guys who will probably be sent out on loan haven’t smashed a team in to their season. Horrendous. Exactly the reason I sought out a forum like this.

July 10, 20197 yr Need to resist the urge to give Bakayoko any more minutes in pre season ... can't be putting potential buyers off ... !

I think pretty much all that team will be gone with the exception of Jamie Cumming. Only Gilmour out of the second half side outfield players have a long term future here.

July 11, 20197 yr I couldn't see who our captain was yesterday. I assume Azpi in the first half, but who was it in the second?

Even for the good of their career - Piazon is 25 now. Baker is 24 I t’s highly unlikely either are going to break in to our first team setup at this stage.

He did well but i feel there's better prospects although his versatility may help his cause. Yeah that's the annoying thing about early pre season games without the full squad, you start the game with the young prospects and remaining 1st teamers but end it mainly with a collection of deadwood (with no hope of a competitive appearance in the coming season) on the pitch, happened last year in Perth and the year before vs Arsenal in Asia.

I like that he likes to get stuck in, but I can't help but feel that he is going to pick up a lot of cards and injuries if he doesn't change things a bit. He doesn't seem to know when to tackle, he just goes for it every time. Hopefully that improves the older he gets. Yeah at the moment he`s getting away with it due to "youthful exuberance" but he will need to start picking his tackles better if he`s to become a regular. He reminds me of Essien when he first came, he was flying into tackles at every opportunity, and was carded quite often. Once he calmed down he was still as effective (if not more) but was still able to smash players around.

His hold up play and movement was much better though, he did well going wide and dragging defenders around, something he didnt used to do for us.
July 11, 20197 yr These type of games are just to get fit for the games, I don't take these games too seriously.
July 11, 20197 yr I’m at least as much interested in what, if any style or pattern Lamps is imposing. These early matches are just as much about him as they are about the players. In some ways more. The players and their abilities are pretty well known, most have been monitored and measured since they were young kids. By contrast next to nothing is known about how the team will play and the style they will adopt.
July 11, 20197 yr Good: - Batshayui Promising: - Gilmour - Maatsen - Drinkwater Underwhelming: - Zouma - Baker No chance of ever being part of the first team: - Brown - Chalobah - Ugbo

It looked to me we were definitely moving the ball forward much faster and getting more players in the box, while allowing the midfielders to carry the ball also.
July 11, 20197 yr Listening to Pedro after the game he stated that training is very intense and the way Frank wants to play is a high press with all the players putting in a shift. The players better buy into it because player power is over.
July 12, 20197 yr I liked Ampadu's performance in the game. Frank sees him as a midfielder. Maybe he still needs to go out on loan. Gilmour looked excellent but 1-2 seasons away from our squad. Michy will take one striker spot I am sure. We are so short of strikers we will play him. He looked sharp and willing to stay.

Is it a case of being short on strikers or isn’t it more of being short on quality? We have 3, and only start 1 with another on the bench. Will be interesting to see which of 3 is cut. Personally feel our wingers is more of a worry. We need to replace Hazard’s goals somehow, Pulisic is an unknown and the less said of the fit other 2 wingers the better.

This has been a very common theme in all of the tactical analyses of Lampard's setup. Should be a nice change.
