£9 million is a bit lower than I was hoping. But we have no leverage when he's got 12 months left on his contract, wants to leave and is coming off a poor season.

Probably not much Tuchel or Boehly could do here. At this point he's not good enough for our team so what could they do at that point? Probably very little.

Hopefully there is a buy-back or even a first refusal in the deal though.

That's my thoughts too. We aren't in a position to demand a big fee and ge hasn't remotely developed in the past 18 months. I had high hopes for him but the Norwich move was a disaster and, regardless of what fans might think, I think you have to assume he hasn't shown much in training to merit anything other than being miles from the squad.

Billy's had the benefit of the Cobham gym for 4 years and he's just about got himself up to 9 and a half stone ! He's also maxed out at 5'7" tall.

He makes Kante and Jorginho look like Hercules LOL

What are they going to do to improve him further ? Rack him and pump him full of HGH and steroids ?

Maybe the reason it's taken us until deadline day to look at a physical DM is because Tuchel thought Jorginho was one the way he manhandles the rest of the sicknotes and midgets in our midfield in training.

The reason being that just because Tuchel doesn't rate him doesn't mean another future coach of Chelsea won't rate him. The kid as so much potential and it makes no sense that we sell him for 9 million while we just bought some 19 year old Italian kid for 15 million with ad ons.

I fully agree with this part, it seems as if we as a club have no principle for the way we act on the market and that is the reason why we waste so much money on bad transfer dealings.

I don't see how Casadei, Carney and Zakharyan should have a higher value than Gilmour at this point in their careers, Gilmour is two years older than the others but is clearly more proven, has over 2000 minutes premier league experience was given MotM awards for us in two matches against Liverpool and Everton and one time for Scotland against England if I remember right, is a scottish international, but for some reason we sell him for a lesser prize than we signed Casadei and Carney for and are offering for Zakharyan, on the same contract length with Casadei and Zakharyan at the point of the transfers too, Carney's contract was even shorter, but somehow he is worth double the amount of money as Billy on the market?

If we really sell Gilmour for such a small fee, I hope we will have at least a rebuy option and a fifty percent sell on clause or something, otherwise I think we are absolute idiots for selling him that cheap, because I think based on potential he could be a top player in the right system.

People in this thread who are acting like letting him go is some kind of huge mistake and that he will fix all our midfield problems. I’m sure you can read and find them for yourself.

Nope, had a look and can't find a single person who claimed he would fix all our midfield problems.

Everton are buying Garner from Man Utd for £15M.

I look at Gilmour as a perfect long term replacement for Jorginho.

But this says it all though doesn't it ?

Everton would rather buy Garner (whoever the f**k he is LOL) for more money than buy Gilmour. Despite having SFL as their manager, and despite them being one of the teams that Billy had a great game against.

And as for replacing Jorginho, well most folk on here are actively wishing Jorginho out of the team completely, so why would we want a mini-lite version of Jorginho a few years down the line ?

What a shame, he could have fixed all our midfield problems.

Seriously though, considering our squad-building (assuming there is any genuine strategy or thought behind it) does seem to be moving us towards a three-man midfield in the future (if not the immediate future). Would have loved to see Gilmour get more time at the base of a three considering how good he looked in that role under Lampard. Of course the appearances were few in number but still… what might have been.

Yeah good point that is.

Happy for him, he’s getting a move to a team that suits him and to a manager that will probably invest time in developing his game.

Gutted for us because we loose a player that can potentially develop into a Cesc Fabregas. We’re screaming for creativity in midfield and we sell one of the youngsters with better pass range and vision in the team. I don’t know who’s responsible for the decision, but it really sucks.

I'm not sure what to think. One thing I am certain of is that letting him go for £9m without any buy back clause would be incredibly short sighted. My main issue with him is his build, he get's bullied in the Premier League which is why he couldn't handle playing for a side down in the relegation spots. He would struggle as much as Jorginho when it comes to the physical side of the game, but at the same time, he's only 21. I do think he is really talented though and has a lot of potential.

One thing I will say is that we are quick to throw out our young players and bring in players for large amounts of money thinking they will be a lot better and then they later turn out to be flops. I personally don't think the likes of Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Timori were world class players that should have started every week for us, but the players we have bought in have been no better, some of them have been worse! I look at players like Havertz and in probably over half of the games he has played for us, you wouldn't even notice he was playing. This is his third season now and in the first 5 games, he has been awful. He hasn't improved a single bit in his time at the club. If his name was Tino Anjorin, he would have been dropped after his first game, sent out on loan or sold.

We are a club that have been absolute suckers for a flashy name for years now. Turbo Timo, Kai "Generational Talent" Havertz. Koulibaly is super special, he has 2 nicknames, "The Wall" and "K2", the only thing he has done so far is look mediocre in everything he has done. What is this? are we building a team of boxers or something? Just give me some footballers that aren't hyped up by social media as the next best thing every time.

The overreaction here is funny, he’s okay player  but he will be no better than Josh McEachran.

Some of you are acting like he’s the next Pirlo FFS

Salah and KDB  were ok players too apparently.

Have some shame. Billy’s capable of passing forward.

At least he's gone to a team that play football that is good to watch and on a fraction of the budget we've got.

Been having a medical for about the last 3 hours looking at Sky. Don't know if he is having a medical or undergoing an operation.

Let's buy players based on size and muscle mass. Lukaku for instance ?

Dunno how wee Pat Nevin ever got in our team .

No, you're right ... let's keep Billy and stick him in a midfield three with Kante and Jorginho ! That will scare the rest of the PL 🙂

Its about positions as well though. I always thought he would struggle in the prem in a DM type of role. I was convinced he would be going north of the border where there is more time for his undoubted ball control and and his skillful passing  would flourish

Brighton will be a good move for him. Sensible and solid club. I personally was never that fussed by him. Always thought he was abit too small and he’s limited in his movement. Even Frank said that he needs “legs around him” to make him work.
