Abandoned our attacking/possession principles to play 5 at the back and still getting a spanking. I’m a lot more upset by the tactics here than when we lost to City 6-0.

Easy to say that in hindsight but the same tactics worked well against Spurs at the weekend. Especially considering the injuries we just don't have the quality to give Bayern a decent game.

We just have to get this out of our head and move on

I know where you're coming from but I believe we should do the exact opposite. Let this be a real eye opener for our manager, players and especially the board. If we claim we want to be at elite standard, well here you go, what it takes to be elite.

No real surprise we got tonked. Those of you getting your knickers on a twist really need to get your head around the fact we aren't remotely in the league of the likes of Bayern. We have youngsters who are both inexperienced and actually not as good as we like to think they are. And we have more experienced players who are either at the tail end of their career or those in the mid to late twenties simply aren't in the same league as the top players in the best teams in Europe.

We are 98 points behind Liverpool for a reason. We have a great prospect in James and Kovacic can look good for brief periods but other than that not one of the rest of the players who played tonight are genuinely top quality. A couple were once but aren't any more. The rest are top six players but nothing more.

Meh, not that bothered to be honest, not going to get too wound up by it. I never had any expectation of winning this or drawing, I expected that performance and result, they're on another level to us and I think they're likely to win the Champions League this time. But it is a walking reminder of how low we've sunk in these competitions for sure.

Mount and Abraham are very young. Defending is not good as we don't have the quality. Kovacic, Jorginho are quality but we need that everywhere on the pitch.

All this talk about Sancho needs to stop. We have to strengthen the defence first and foremost.

Exactly.

Need to build from the back, no point having the exciting vibrant attack when you keep conceding simple goals every game.

Give me a comanding centre back and leader every time. Then you can start to look further ahead.

Even before hindsight you could say it. This was never going to be another Spurs match because Bayern are in a different ether to them. Possibly the only mistake that Frank made was not starting Willian for counter attacks and to stretch the pitch but really, even then, do you think that would have made a great difference? This result is deserved and more than fair.

You Could See Early On With The Amount Of Space They Had To Move Into It Was Going To Be Bad, Thiago Had All Day To Pass Whenever He Had The Ball

Happy It Was Only 3-0 And Not Worse Than That

Some positive things happened during the first half, Giroud did some good work and our midfield managed to create something with 30% possession...But Bayern deserved their win, this result is the difference in quality for sure.

I don’t buy that at all. We’d have beaten that spurs team playing any formation. Playing a Spurs team who parked the bus is different to playing an attacking Bayern team, so we needed to adjust our tactics for that. And it’s not hindsight - I mentioned this pre-match and at half-time when it was 0-0.

We had Willian, Pedro and Abraham on the bench - we didn’t need to play 5 at the back if we didn’t want to.

For those annoyed at Bayern's chant about us, please remember that every single one of them would happily trade in tonight's result for the Champions League in 2012. How about we remind them of that.

They're nothing but an Ogliarch that buy all the top talent in their division, they couldn't have it easier, try having to worry about playing rival after rival and a big game every few weeks.

Well we were a struggling team when we beat them in Munich but still had the traces of old quality and grit that got us through, 8 years on and we have recovered a few times in stints  but just never been at our same levels of 10 -15 years ago.

I always think back to Jose winning the league on his second stint, Neville and co were saying i can see this Chelsea team dominate for 5 years, I mean just the right level of support that summer for Mourinho and we were back at the top, then conte sane thing, sarri saw it coming and got out.

Teams go up and down but I’m hoping the board finally support frank in at least trying to build a team that can be called elite again, this cycle isn’t progressing us at all, it’s hard to watch us being man handled, European nights  bring such joy to supporters we want to be fighting when we get here.

A little harsh on the youngsters perhaps. In the ideal world they would be used more sparingly at this stage of their careers instead of looking burnt out after starting every week. However with our limited squad we've really had few other options. I wouldn't write off Mount or Abraham yet but they need to be rotated more.

That was humbling.

Disappointed in the setup and disappointed in the performance. You can't go with five defenders when 0 out of 5 are any good at defending. We can sit as deep as we want, it will take a miracle for us to keep a clean-sheet no matter who the opponent is, let alone Bayern.

Apart from the 98 points comment which I attribute to your old age, very well put, Loz.
