February 25, 20206 yr Mount and Abraham are very young. Defending is not good as we don't have the quality. Kovacic, Jorginho are quality but we need that everywhere on the pitch. Kovacic is quality in bursts and, in fairness to him, if he had better players around him he might be able to do it more consistently over a whole game rather than fading too regularly. It is hard to keep up the level he can show when things are fairly average around him. Can't agree on Jorginho. Nothing about him looked like quality tonight. Only disappointment about him missing second leg is that Kante won't be fit to replace him. Big players show up in big games. He never does.
February 25, 20206 yr A tale of two clubs, one got defeated in the final 8 years ago and continued investing in talent the other have let their squad degrade to a point were we are no longer at the top table. We were outclassed tonight, no complaints. It was a step too far for the young inexperienced players. They will gain from the experience, though some may not attain the levels we require. At least the club will get more money this year from a last 16 appearance in the CL than in winning the Europa League last year.
February 25, 20206 yr Just now, Sindre said: That was humbling. Disappointed in the setup and disappointed in the performance. You can't go with five defenders when 0 out of 5 are any good at defending. We can sit as deep as we want, it will take a miracle for us to keep a clean-sheet no matter who the opponent is, let alone Bayern. Spot on all our defenders are either poor or average
February 25, 20206 yr Oh well, not that surprised really, so not that disappointed. Tammy needs to work on his anticipation a bit though, 2 balls across the face of their goal and he was nowhere to be seen. We should use this game as a yardstick of the level we want to get to, Bayern was very good tonight. At least we didn’t get humiliated at home like Spurs.

Give me a comanding centre back and leader every time. Then you can start to look further ahead. I with you on that - I'd happily have a few dogged 0-0s and 1-0 wins. Sort out a proper defence and then you can start to stamp some authority on the game.

How about we remind them of that. Bayern fans haven't got much to be proud of. They played a tired, inexperienced, sloppy side missing some key players. Was never a fair playing field to begin with.
February 25, 20206 yr 2 minutes ago, DannyVblue said: I don’t buy that at all. We’d have beaten that spurs team playing any formation. Playing a Spurs team who parked the bus is different to playing an attacking Bayern team, so we needed to adjust our tactics for that. And it’s not hindsight - I mentioned this pre-match and at half-time when it was 0-0. We had Willian, Pedro and Abraham on the bench - we didn’t need to play 5 at the back if we didn’t want to. Fair enough but I think we would have conceded even more if we had gone with a back 4. As it is our 2 full backs (James and Alonso) are more effective as wing backs then in a conventional back 4. My biggest issue with the defense is playing Christensen again to be honest.
February 25, 20206 yr One thing I learnt tonight, 40m for Kovacic is a f*cking bargain. Even Bayern couldn’t stop his runs.
February 25, 20206 yr Bayern deserves to get that victory. Unfortunately we just gifted two goals by Azpilicueta, and lack of experience, fitness, confidence or whatever that nobody cared to foul Davies and everyone just let him run forward. We have a lot to learn from this game, and work harder to the league. I just don't know know how bad this can be finished at Bayern's home. Anyways, we all could see the difference between the teams. Confidence, form, experience, level, world class players. We should not take this game so much hard, we must put all our best to the League and the cup against Liverpool. And once the game vs Bayern will come closer, then maybe try to surprise which is going to be impossible mission. It's not fun to lose, especially not at home without scoring a respect goal. Let's hope for a better days. COME ON CHELS!!!

Okay we didn't ship 7, but we got absolutely shat on all game. The levels were obvious.
February 25, 20206 yr Senior players letting the side down again really ... maybe the problem is that we don't play enough young players ...

February 25, 20206 yr During the game tonight i had to think. Who on the field is really good enough for the future? You could maybe find a couple out of the entire XI. The defence is shambles and filled with overrated CBs and bad fullbacks. James gets a pass as he's young and learning but he's all over the place defensively and was schooled by someone a year younger than him today. And you could do the same for goalkeepers, midfield and strikers. The squad is just filled with the most average collection of players we have seen in the Roman-era.

With an extra midfielder instead of defender we’d have had more numbers in the middle to wrestle hold of possession better. Playing 5 at the back we were sitting ducks - couldn’t get near them. Alonso wouldn’t have played, Azpi left back and James right back. James is just a good a right back as wingback. You can’t concede if you don’t give your opponent the ball! We let them have it all game at home!
February 25, 20206 yr We would have lost no matter what formation we'd have used or who would have played where. Let's not kid ourselves, Bayern are a class or two above us, we tried our best and still got spanked. This is just a reminder of where we are as a team at the moment and what we should be aiming to become.

Müller and Alaba are homegrown. Boateng came from City, Thiago from Barcelona, Gnabry had no future anymore at Arsenal - same with Coman at Juve. Kimmich came from 2nd league. Pavard went down 2nd league with Stuttgart. Davies came from the MLS. Lewy was not bought....
February 25, 20206 yr Certainly a good reminder of how far we have fallen since 2012. We managed to paper over the cracks with some trophies since but it has been a steady decline for the most part and we are in desperate need of some quality investment.
February 25, 20206 yr The fun part is that our exact team and formation won against Spuds recently. It just shows how the league level has fallen, we playing with an old Giroud, average Barkley and inexperienced Mount can win against rivals for the top 4. Bayern was playing this without any problems, it's like a free pass to the next round for them, they do this every season while we were in Europa league just a year ago so we are really staring from almost 0 here.
February 25, 20206 yr Not too down about that result. Bayern just too good. They'd looked at our video and exploited our openess superbly. I'm sure Frank will have learned a lot tonight.

We are still sticking with him but he has to earn that starting positions. Man u bought ibrahimovic and lukaku. Rashford fought them off and has earned it. Spurs bought soldado and Kane finished him off. Abraham needs competition and time to develop

No ones saying that we wouldn’t have lost - we Probably would have because Bayern are a very good team. It’s more the fact that we gave it to them without offering a fight. We were the home team and want to be and attacking/possession based team in the future - playing 5 at the back and being so defensive at home when we have a sh*te defence was like waving the white flag before kick off.

I've put red highlighter through all the players older than 25 ... I agree Mount wasn't on it tonight, but at least he tried, and he still did a lot better than most of the more senior pros ... Kovacic is really the only player to come out of tonight with any credit ...
