I am pretty sure Super League is proposed to start in 2022? If so there would be one more season of Champions League assuming we are even allowed in. At the moment like many on here I am disgusted with the club. Unless we have a change of heart and decide to back out of these plans I think I will stop watching our games.

Edit:quoted wrong post

So given the club sold us out for the super league is there any more motivation left for the team? Dont need top 4 now.

Might as well not bother, we're not playing for anything now that we have made ourselves ineligible for UEFA competitions next season.

Until told otherwise we need to carry on like nothing will change, similar to last season when we kept playing even though the prospect of the league being suspended was lingering.

I should be buzzing as any other match day, but it just feels all a bit meh at the moment. In any case, I want the players to give their all and win this match, get as high up as possible in the league before we are kicked out of it (and the ECL). However, I would not blame players if they were a bit unfocused with all the situation around the ESL, and it is likely that Brighton will be coming to make a point about the elitism we have signed up to.

In any case, Come on Chelsea!! (maybe for the last time CareFree?)

I bet this affects the players as well. Watch them put in a terrible performance

Yes I think that's likely. I must say I will be watching the game with a heavy heart. I will not watch the super league.

Agreed coombsie.

This should have been an extremely important game where we could widen the gap to Liverpool and be back in a great position for fourth or even third.

Instead I am entirely uninterested in even watching it as we speak.

Put all the noise aside. Focus and win. I read that Kepa might be starting - have we learned nothing?

I’ll learn you something right now. If he is starting tonight, which I doubt, then we should not feel nearly as nervous about it as we have in the past. He’s strung some clean sheets together. An improved defense has taken pressure off of him. I don’t know about others, but Saturday against Man City my worry wasn’t due to Kepa stating. It was solely due to Man City having a hell of a team. And we kept a clean sheet against then with Kepa in goal, so we can undoubtedly do the same against Brighton.

The can learn just as much from his showings this season as they can from last season when he struggled.

I was looking forward to watching this game, but after the ESL fiasco, have no interest in the result. That's a lie, deep down  I still want Chelsea to win, I just don't care if we do or not.

First time in over 50 years I have felt like this (although nearly did when we sacked Ancelotti)

I think lots are feeling this way coombsie. I'm actually not sure I'll even watch.

The reality is our decision has largely made the game meaningless. We are apparently in a race to try and finish fourth to qualify for a competition we won't be joining in any case.

The truth is beyond finishing first and avoiding relegation the whole PL season is largely a moot point. Given that fans can't attend matches home or away now and the matchday experience is gone it does feel a bit like what's the point?

The key thing the American drivers behind all this have missed is that US franchise based leagues have play-offs. That's what keeps the domestic leagues interesting. In the first past the post system of European football that doesn't exist. But I suppose we'll now have finals systems in the domestic leagues to complete the awful Americanisation of the sport.

Anyway long story short, I'm not fussed. Wouldn't surprise me if it affects the team and the result. It's nothing if not a massive distraction.

I think if the ESL went ahead we can be quite sure of some sort of mini play-off system (the last CL "tournament" in Lisboa is seen as a huge success after all and I'd agree). Expect also some sort of all-star game which will be held annually at Tokyo / NYC / Doha.

Wow. I would definitely love an all star game. Always wanted to see Messi and Ronaldo on the same team.lol
