We pay a fortune for medicore players and then don't have the funds for someone who might actually improve the team. This is important in the context of a deal for a Bellingham or a Rice. Can't disagree with that.

The answer is simple How he treated Brighton should have been a massive red flag, both with Cities interest to be a back up, and our interest. Unprofessional in the chase for money. He is a made man now, effort and quality drops. I use this word a lot but he is another mercenary. We might have to be a bit careful here. Aren't there parallels in the transfer of Cucurella and our latest attempts with Enzo
January 2, 20233 yr I still think there is a player in there - he does not concern me as much as 7 or 8 other players we have to watch. When Chilwell is fit, this is the kind of squad rotation quality we need.
January 2, 20233 yr I didn't think he was too bad, problem was he couldn't really do much going forward because he had to stay back to help out our slow defence.

The only players that have really improved the squad recently are our academy players and Thiago Silva. Even Chilwell is becoming a desaster with his constant injuries. January 2, 20233 yr I actually thought he played pretty well in the last 2 games. Looked solid enough.

In the final third you might be right but I disagree in regards to the first and middle thirds. He progresses the ball a lot better than Emerson does and is better defensively.
January 2, 20233 yr He’s not a £60m player, but I definitely think that he’s a good enough cover for Chilwell defensively and carrying the ball forward.
January 3, 20233 yr Completely under whelming, just offer nothing in defence or attack. There was one moment against Forest just before HT, we managed to beat the press and quick ball to Cucurella, with no defender within 5 meters of him and couple of attackers ahead of him, instead of took all easy attacking options, he passed the ball straight back to the CD, and all we managed was waste the last attack before HT and let Forest off the hook. Chiwell is way better than him, we should have paid 20M for a back up LB instead of him. What's his re-sell value now, like 5m?

January 3, 20233 yr Cucu is a decent, steady player - playing in a team that is not currently functioning anywhere near optimal level. I think he is a good addition to the squad. Yes, clearly overpriced, but a level above emerson (who could have stayed as our back up)
January 3, 20233 yr Some Alonso goals actually carried us during a period last season, couldn't imagine Cucu doing the same!
January 3, 20233 yr Had big doubts about him and I think he is a very limited player. As a defender he leaves us exposed with his height and lack of physicality when defending set pieces and also at times players just shrug him off. attacking wise even if he didn’t have silky skills but was able to pick a pass or cross one would have understood. I can’t believe we spent 60 mil on him. Surely there were better options out there.
January 6, 20233 yr It turns out if you outbid team who has unlimited amount of money, it is a bad deal. It happen to us with jorgi and cucu. It happen to united with alexis n maguire. Are these players bad? Not at all. Are they worth the fee that they were paid? Absolutely not. Edited January 6, 20233 yr by Bob stark

January 6, 20233 yr Spends too much time f**king about with his stupid hair when he should be concentrating on the man he is supposed to be marking. Can't believe we spunked so much money on this guy when we have Lewis Hall who is 100% better. Drop him.

He is still a very poor player though and can't believe we bought him for 60 million. I am sure mattsen would perform superior to him every time.
January 6, 20233 yr Don't see how he's any better than Hall or Maatsen. Okay footballer but we've once again wasted money where an academy player can do just as good a job. For years we should have been spending big in one or two positions to get it right and fill in elsewhere with academy players who are clearly good enough. Tomori at AC, Guehi at Palace, Livramento at Southampton all better than Koulibaly and current Azpi. Hall and Maatsen just as good as Cucurella.
January 20, 20233 yr Potter confirming he's had family troubles, might explain the average performances of late. Hope everyone is okay and he comes back and proves he deserves to wear a Chelsea shirt.

January 20, 20233 yr Author I think it's overlooked that he spent a bit of time in hospital and lost a fair bit of weight a while ago. I thought he started well under Tuchel. It's basically since that hospital stay that he's struggled.
