Joao Felix

Personally, I am not for bringing João in permanently. I enjoy his technical ability and the flair he provides but I don’t see the end product that we need.

additionally, we have plenty of wingers/AM/10s and Nkunku is coming on top of everything. I understand that he does better with a striker in front of him, but I feel that’s the case with damn near every single one of our wingers.

I just don’t see the expenditure as necessary when we have other issues within the squad. Hopefully, if they decide to purchase João, there is a clear plan in place to properly use him and get the most out of him. I just don’t have that confidence in the board, honestly.

Except he is not a centre-forward.

Nor is Havertz.

Nor is Mudryk.

Nor is Sterling.

Nor is Mount.

Nor is Madueke.

Etc.

Neither are Firmino, Jota and Mane.

The trick to playing a false 9 formation is actually using the player appropriately.

I just want an explanation as to why we should spend 80m on him when he doesn’t really add anything to what we already have.

Jorge Mendes in Wolf of Wall Street mode for this pitch, got a horrible feeling he has Boehly and the Clearlake boys hoodwinked on this one. 🤦‍♂️

When will the circus end. Everyone benefits but Chelsea.

Our owners have wasted so much money and put us in the financial toilet apparently, but surley this guy has to be the biggest waste of money they have pulled off.

What was it? 10mill loan fee, full wages covered and no reseale value, how much has he cost us for 2 goals and no assists to date?

too weak for the PL, loses the ball all the time, no better than Ziyech,  TB pants pulled down.....

As a football coach I get sick of hearing this bs about the sacred number 9 ... they're effing football players on obscene amounts of £ and they don't have the determination to drive the ball forward and fing score - the most basic impulse in football unless you're a goalie

Either he was really slow or the defender was way too fast ( doubt it). That kind of clean through opportunity, the least you'd get a penalty out of it. It should have been the moment where miracle began for us, unfortunately as usual he stuffed it up. He's not a 18 year old kid, with the price tag he carries, has to do a lot better.

The trick to play false 9 is to have goal getter on the wing. You don't build your team based on false 9 unless that false 9 is Messi.

You play false 9 because your two wide player are your goal getter and you want to give your two goalgetter more space to work, so it is not about that false 9,it is about the other two.

Getting fed up of him to be honest. He's quite selfish on the ball which would be fine if he actually had end product.

Even if you excuse the lack of goals as him not being a striker, he still misses passes to better positioned players  in favour of taking a shot straight at the keeper or dribbling.

I can see now why Havertz was a starter upfront if this was the alternative.

Yeah, basically he was one of the most exciting players for me this season but the last games and, especially yesterday, he's not put any effort whatsoever. I'd still keep him as there's a very good player, but not for more than 40m.

Would Felix be a starter under prime Mourinho or SAF?

No. And he would get the Joe Cole treatment from the former. If you're going to be the kind of player Felix presents himself as, you need to deliver G/A numbers close to Messi or Ronaldo. Especially in a league as intense as the PL. Unfortunately, for all his natural talents, there just isn't enough substance in his game.

We do actually have that player but for some bizarre reason we're trying to make him play like he's Eden Hazard.

Under Tuchel and against Dortmund have been the only the times we used Sterling how he's suppose to be used.

If he had anything close to the stats of Messi or Ronaldo he wouldn't have come on loan to begin with. Think about it, they keep Morata since he can score a few at least and in the previous seasons it was Suarez and Griezmann that were the top scorers for Atletico Madrid. Joao Felix has the skill but not much an eye for a goal.

The version of him we are crying out for is the one that scored 20 goals and had 11 assists in 2,864 minutes in his only full season at Benfica.

The version we have seen since then, at Atletico and here, is far less effective, but is still putting up numbers comparable to (actually better than) what Nkunku delivered at PSG, and initially in Germany at the same stage of his career.  It is only in the last season and a half that Nkunku (at age 24/25) has exploded. Maybe the same will happen with Felix ? 23 is still quote young in terms of a football career. In terms of how Boehly is viewing "potential", I can see why he might be interested in signing him permanently, and he does provide flashes that warm the heart for anyone who celebrates the "beautiful game".  Jury still out for me though.

It is difficult with just Sterling , you need one more coming from the right which is usually extremely difficult to find.

Most team will do something like

Vinicius - Benzema

Kvaca - Oshimen

As said above he's a luxury we don't need right now. All of our forward positions are occupied by players who don't look like they want to score.

We need a confident focal point who can change a game from nothing.
