Those of us that have kids that have gone through the academy set up or indeed have been through it themselves would probably say that the clubs as a whole and those involved in the academy set ups are generally a cold, unfeeling group that use their positions and the emotional blackmail associated to lord it over these youngsters and create stressful, pressurized environments to "man up" these kids. At any stage they could be released with little justification which can often be at the whim of those in charge of the particular age group concerned. The clubs shouldn't really cry foul if these youngsters then grow up battle hardened and are single minded in achieving what they want. Largely they are a product of their environments. I accept it's hard for kids to have success in football and only the few will be successful at the highest level. Some will come through immediately, some never and some in the lower leagues. It's massively disappointing when your own flesh and blood doesn't quite make it at the highest level and yes certain kids get shipped around like a commodity but that's life. In most lines of work people are only as good as their last game and if you don't perform you're out. That's life I'm afraid. All of this doesn't mean the fans or the club can't reasonably expect a straight answer or perhaps just a little common decency/curtesy. The longer this goes on the more bad feeling will fester. It just seems to me that his agents do not give a fig for anything other than the absolute max payment and to hell with the clubs or the players happiness. The guy is 18 years old, grew up in Wandsworth and his agents are touting him around Germany when his local club who he has been with since a kid have offered him over £5m a year to sign. We all know if he absolutely smashes it on the pitch he will be able to renegotiate in a couple of years so what s the problem? Why take so long?

I think he will sign but either way i'm pretty relaxed now with him as unlike with KDB (who no doubt people will draw comparisons with if he goes) we've done everything possible. If the appearances he got at the second half of last season, the number 10 shirt, two of his academy coaches in the set up, a player he idolized (who's talked him right up) becoming the manager, being able to skip the loan process (something not even Terry did) and being one of the big faces of the new era isn't enough to convince him then meh whatever. Exactly. If he truly wants to sign, he'll sign. If it's truly about playing time, Chelsea right now is his best option, and Frank, Jody, and staff will be the most supportive of him and his development. If he's not fully into Chelsea, or he's more into money than he is into Chelsea, then I'd prefer we heed Frank's words and replace him with someone more committed to the club.
July 12, 20197 yr I actually can't blame the young lad for keeping his options open. We don't have a good track record with youth, I think things will definitely start changing now because we have no choice. If CHO starts games I think he'll sign, you can't blame him, if he signs a 5 year contract who's to say the club won't bench him and send him out on loans for another 5 years? We need to earn a good reputation for giving youngsters a chance first before we start complaining and calling them disloyal.
July 12, 20197 yr I keep reading about people saying it's for the money. I'd bet anyone on here his highest wage offer will come from Chelsea. What's it say if he leaves for free for LESS money... That maybe he thinks it's the best move got his career? That said, there are a lot of parallels between international football and NCAA Football in the states.... You recruit and you get commitments from players... A lot of times, the team will hold back the news until they need it.. Chelsea is riding a high right now with Lampard and to a lesser extent Ruben announcing an extension... There will be lows... That's when you whip out the good news... PR 101 I still expect Hudson-Odoi to sign with Chelsea.

I mean to be honest I think his people are using the transfer ban to get a better deal, I understand wanting the best deal, football is business, although we don’t know the details what’s clear is the club have approached him about a new contract. Ruben signed his, so the only thing that could be stalling is their terms not lining up with ours, and from what’s been said we are offering him an awful lot for a young unproven player. I mean what’s another plausible scinaeio, it’s obvious he has been approached to sign, it’s obvious the club asked lamps to make a statement to encourage him, so what is stalling the deal it if not his agent/brother. I don’t think it’s irrational that you’re frustrated.
July 13, 20197 yr I think he will sign, after seeing what RLC got, his team will drag it out to maximize his value.
July 14, 20197 yr Bayern supposedly coming back in with a £45 million bid next week. Be pointless to sell in any case regardless of contract. We have stupid amounts of money to spend when the ban is up already
July 14, 20197 yr So Hazard - one of the world's best, on the back of his best ever season - saw his value halve to £90m because he had one year left on his contract. But this doesn't happen to an 18 year old who's hardly played a senior game. These fees being quoted for CHO make zero sense.

Full England international at 18 and starting for a top 4 premier league team.

That’s the kind of toxic attitude we don’t need around the club. He’s being offered huge money and assurances over game time at the age of 18. He’s extremely naive if he thinks he’s got a better chance of playing at Bayern. I also don’t particularly like his brother being his representative and already having been involved in two Chelsea youths being taken to Bayern. The further away from the club we can get him the better. i still wish he’d sign and in a perfect world he would but this has been dragging on for far too long now for there to be nothing in it. Bayern wouldn’t still be bidding if they weren’t getting signals from his camp it was still a goer and certainly not if he’d already signed the contract as some of these ‘in the know’ers have claimed. Compare this to Pulisic who has had about a week of holiday because he wants to join up with his new team mates and it’s night and day. Edited July 15, 20197 yr by EdinburghBlue
July 15, 20197 yr I’ve got the feeling that he’s not going to sign. The transfer request in January did not bode well. Can’t see why BM would pay massive fee for an injured, unproved 18 year old who they can pick up next year for nothing. If he doesn’t sign I can’t see the point in holding on to him and would rather he was sold now. Hope he signs and stays and turns into a superstar but I’d hate the thought that he would be trying to hold the club to ransom for a better deal.
July 15, 20197 yr Given the vibe around the club with Lampard coming on board, Hudson-Odoi would have to be an absolute idiot not to want to be a part of that ...
July 15, 20197 yr Theres no way Odoi leaves IMO. Once back from injury, himself and Pulisic will be the starting wingers and at 18 and 20, they've got a decade at the top with the club. The only other options for Chelsea out wide are a useless Brazilian and an ageing Pedro.

Bayern desperately needs another winger since Sane and Dembele both said no to them and Ribery/Robben are gone for good now. They are trying to lower the fee because CHO is injured, but they need another attacking player a lot more than we do. The difference is that Chelsea has invested much time and is prepared to invest more, while Munich will scrutinize and discard him if he doesn't perform. Edited July 15, 20197 yr by Vagabond
July 15, 20197 yr Starting to feel a bit like the january window with these bayern bids. I think CHO will either sign an extention or put in another transfer request before the window shuts.
July 15, 20197 yr The press will have a field day if he leaves. Articles for weeks about our youth that weren’t given a chance. Ironically he actually was and now is being offered a great deal. Let’s hope he gets it sorted. It would be exciting having him and Pulisic at 18 and 20 and then going in for someone like Pepe next season.

July 15, 20197 yr Hudson-Odoi can simply choose, either sign a new deal and be a part of the first team or hand in a transfer request and move to Germany or wherever. He can become a legend of the club as he is a good talent and is from this very club, but if he sees no value in that, by all means make a career in Bayern, become a new Owen Hargreaves or whatever irrelevant inspiration there is to pick from. Maybe someone told him he'll be the new Robben there or Ribery and that's somehow very attractive to him.
