Honestly, let's be real. We can't go back to those sh*te days.

The rival fans including Spuds and Arsenal will banter us for decades.

But, as it stands - it doesn't look like we will go back there anyway. But the ambition is the most worrying part.

We could be utterly sh*te, get relegated, promoted, relegated again, promoted again and be sh*te for the next decade, but Arsenal and Spurs would still be useless.

Spuds maybe. But Arsenal are capable of winning a FA Cup there and there.

Whatever the current geopolitical situation, when it comes purely to Chelsea football club, Roman Abramovich has been the owner during which Chelsea have had the most successful footballing achievements in the history of the club with an amazing list of trophies won during his time - he provided the basis for Chelsea to become one of the very top clubs known worldwide.

Roman built a footballing Empire at Chelsea, and as the comments here show, he is going to leave with the thanks of the vast majority of Chelsea fans for the footballing success he helped to provide.

Hopefully the next owner will build on the successes from Roman's reign - we all know a lot of other clubs have a lot more trouble with owners, so will have to wait and see, but in the meantime, just thanks to Roman for all the positives during his two decades with Chelsea.

Absolutely gutting.
A timely reminder that absolutely nothing in life lasts forever, you have to just appreciate the good times. And Roman gave us 20 brilliant years full of trophies. What an owner. Can never be taken away. To have won every single trophy going shows you how good he was, a relentless pursuit of winning... not much else to prove and he's been put in an impossible position.

Let's see who comes next. Big shoes to fill.

What a bloody grim week. Russia invades Ukraine, cost of living going up aka petrol, energy, Roman putting Chelsea up for sale and there is potential of a world war breaking out.

And I thought things were starting to get positive again after 3 long years with covid and lockdowns. Can’t we get a break?

hear hear, its certainly all very depressing. Better times will come my friend.

Blimey I couldn’t have been more wrong early in this thread. I was always under the impression that The Trust was set up for eventuality’s like this. Still not sure what has gone on there.

Roman has effectively just written off Billions not just with his investment but the Ukrainian donation. To me shows where his heart and loyalty lie, not with this Russian regime

I think someone will step in an buy us on the relative cheap but let’s face it any new owner is a step backwards.

Don’t tell Shearer and Winter that, they prefer to follow their own narratives. Both forget that Roman is very aware if he says the wrong thing he could be the subject of the next Salisbury incident

I guess this means Marina Granovskaia will be out, maybe most of the senior figures like Bruce Buck too.

Buck, Tenenbaum and Granovskaia would be my bet to follow Roman out of the club. All came in with Roman, having worked with him before.

Most likely the BBC Producer dictating into their ear piece.

If we were moaning and grimacing over some of the performances over the last 20 years, God knows what lies ahead of us especially if we get a sh*t owner who is an American who will no doubt simply syphon the club dry like Arsenal, Utd and Spurs.  No doubt there will be major changes within the Boardroom; so let's hope the board members have some knowledge of what this club stands for and a love for football.

We were a good side in the season's leading up to Romans buying us.

Saw some great players ( no need to list them all) and terrific football , during those years..

I hope the academy won't be affected because that could be our saving. Never understood how Bates did it back then, but fair play to him we had exciting teams back then.

What I don't understand from that statement is he mentioned the net proceeds will go to a charity for Ukrainian war victims, Which in essence means he's on the Ukrainian side as he hasn't turned a blind eye to the actual war. So are we now freezing assets of Russians who don't stand with Putin also? Hilarious considering the Saudi's have so much real estate in Central London and just a few weeks back launched airstrikes into Yemen, All a bit weird.

Not weird at all. Especially if you consider the fact that the UK sells them a hell of a lot of the weapons they use to wreak havoc and destruction and have huge financial gains from them.

We are a very hypocritical country, like all other major Western countries.

We are bullies and like all bullies are strongest when we face weaker opposition like a backwater country in Northern Africa or one where we know we have the firepower to sink them.

Come across another bully that we know have the same military capabilities like we do, then it becomes a case of let's talk, let's sanction, let's do everything but fight.

The hypocrisy is damn  neat nauseating and suffocating.

I have tried really really hard not to get involved in football tribalism when it comes to what is happening in Ukraine, it's sick and I would like to believe we can put that aside for a situation like this, but rival fans, pundits and the media have made it almost impossible for me to not defend myself. I try not to bite, but some of the sh*t I have seen said about the club and us fans have really angered me and soured me on the sport a bit in a time where you would like to see football come together. I can take the usual sh*t like "plastic fans" and "you have no history", but to use the invasion on Ukraine against us is sickening, and shows the true horrible side of the people that follow this sport. It feels like we aren't allowed to feel anything for the Ukranian people without some snide comment. It feels like they are trying to link the club and us fans to this war, like we are responsible in some way. Well they can f**k off, we are just normal people trying to live a normal life, no different from anybody else.

Exactly right Scott. Some real disgusting people out there.

Sad day. Reading the statement made me emotional.

We have been blessed for the last 19 years to have an owner with the passion and love for the club to succeed at all costs.

Roman’s contribution to the club will never be forgotten.

It's such a mess the whole thing, I mean I don't want to give the UK government any ideas but our owners have ties to a government who are helping the Saudis bomb Yemen, Will our owners have to face the music like this?

I think Pat Nevin made the same observation (not about City but all owners) tonight on BBC

I think that the fans at Luton have made it clear our support for Roman loud enough. Hopefully the censorship in the UKs tv hasn’t filtered our songs tonight.

Football is just a game and compared to the real tragedies in Ukraine this is nothing. I noticed yesterday that Abramovich had landed in Moscow and I imagine Putin gave him his marching orders (from Chelsea). Hence today's announcement. In Russia the top oligarchs have to do what VP says and Abramovich reportedly looks after part of his fortune.

All the other PL clubs are in the hands of oligarchs of one form or another. US private equity owners are probably the worst to have, then the UAE/Saudis. Let's hope he sells to someone at least half-decent.

Anyway, the long-term model for football has to be something more along German lines with fan ownership. There really is too much money in the game, too much corruption and player salaries have to come down.

I'm grateful for the last twenty years at Chelsea, it's been amazing, though I didn't always agree with the chopping and changing and we turned over too many players.

I did wonder if this was possible, following the Germany model. It’s a shame we can’t do it because it would be really cool if we become the first club in premier league to be run by supporters.

I think it’s the way forward but right now it’s not possible sadly. It would be really good if we can get an owner that wants to emulate or even better Roman, I think we all know they’re never going to be as passionate or good as Roman. We were so lucky to have him looking at clubs all over the world, American owners in England, the demise of AC and Inter Milan, even Barcelona.

It’s funny because Roman given us a lot of instability with the chopping and changing of managers, but I don’t think we could have asked for a more stable and better owner. He was the best.

It’s so sad how it came to this end, the bloody war. And you have c**ts like Shearer and Winter marvelling in it, it shows you how small time they are really.
