I completely disagree with the narrative that he's only a workhorse - he proved last night that he has great ability on the ball i.e. receiving the ball on the turn under pressure, great weight of pass, should have had a brilliant assist for Maatsen. He's Chelsea through and through and getting better by the game! Very well said. I thought he played great on the ball last night.
October 4, 20232 yr Really happy to read how his performances have improved. I’m pretty tough on Gallagher, and nothing would make be happier if he proved me completely wrong. He’s doing the right things now. Always loved his passion and endeavor, and he’s backing that up with more now. Keeping pushing Conor!

His main problem is that I don't think he makes the team when we have all the squad fit. Hard to be a good captain from the treatment room. Reece is on his way to Kante last year's levels of games missed.
October 4, 20232 yr Genuinely can't think of a more all-action midfield performance than that since Mount and Kante under Tuchel - maybe Kante vs Liverpool last year? Really promising performance from Gallagher, hope he can build on it. It's the kind of two-way performance that is needed to close out games.
October 4, 20232 yr It amazes me how many comments that praise him still end with ridiculous comment's like "but he still shouldn't be in our first choice team" or "we should still be looking at selling him" etc. Its all very weird, he has arguably been our best midfielder this season.

He is a limited player still. I can't deny it no matter how good he did against Fulham. He would be better suited being an 8 arriving in the box finishing chances. Now he had to stay a bit deeper. He is good in defensive actions as well but not as good as Caicedo nor is he comfortable carrying ball or shielding it like Moises does. I am impressed by his personality and attitude. This is why he probably is the captain right now. I think he could well still be sold because of his limitations. If he starts banging in goals he would naturally stay and given a new deal. We need goals.

But I was comparing on field captaincy (James during pre-season, plus Liverpool PL game ; Conor in the Carabao Cup vs AFC Wimbledon, plus Bournemouth, Villa and Fulham PL games) ... and I think Conor has shown more leadership attributes than James.

Most leagues in the world are a stroll compared to Prem. Even Champions League is lot less demanding physically than Prem. This league is not for everyone.

Yes he's rough around the edges but how many Chelsea caps does he have again?
October 4, 20232 yr If only a certain someone showed this same level of professionalism. Hard to come by these type of professionals.

Not true, he played when we lost to statistically one of the worst teams to ever play in the CL, last year vs Dinamo. And that was under Tuchel as well, before everything changed.
October 5, 20232 yr He might be a "good" midfielder, but when Enzo, Nkunku, Caicedo and Lavia are all fit they're all ahead of him in the pecking order. He's a jack of all trades, master of none.

Right now Gallagher is undroppable and will continue to be until his performances drop.
October 5, 20232 yr Undroppable but where do you fit him in? #10 instead of Nkunku or Palmer or Carney when he has 0 shooting threat and is not creative? Pivot instead of Enzo, Caicedo or Lavia where we've seen plenty of evidence that he cannot play there?

Away matches (be it a London derby) where things will get scrappy. You need that kind of bite in midfield that allows Enzo and Caicedo to do there thing. With everyone fit and the form Gallagher is in, I'd probably of played Nkunku at LF, Jackson ST, Gallagher at CAM, and Palmer at RF. This imo was the type of match not tailored for Mudryk and the irony was that he scored his first goal. Thought he was still poor. We are kind of blessed that we have Poch who already understands the Premier League.

Disagree on the shooting though, he's one of the few players we have who I know can ping one, which is something we do lack in the team. I don't think he should be ahead of the likes of Palmer, Carney, or Nkunku though if I'm being honest. But because our players can't stay fit to save their lives he's going to get a lot of game time anyway. Edited October 5, 20232 yr by Victor90
