August 2, 20223 yr I'm not sure why we want this lad, unless Chilwell is not expected to return from his injury. Was it worse than expected? Cucurella is a left back, who can play at LCB too, but I just don't see why we would be paying £50m for a bench warmer, unless Chilly is struggling ??

We can't be expected to compete with the best consistently unless we players who are good enough, both starting and on the bench.
August 2, 20223 yr I believe this would be an excellent signing. If TT continues with wing backs, and our season last year fell apart when both our first choices got injured, this makes perfect sense. I want to move to a back 4, but if TT has us playing, with wing backs, like he did at the start of last year, I’d be happy as I thought we were a good watch up to the usual Christmas wobble…..
August 2, 20223 yr Can someone please tell me why we're spunking £50m on this guy when we've got much bigger holes to fill...he's only 5 foot 7 so useless as a CB, weak in the tackle, played LCB for only 3 games at the end of last season...we've already got 7 LBs on our books and Koulibaly has played the left CB of a 3 for most of his Napoli career...sorry but this smacks of absolute desperation by Boehly and Tuchel... August 2, 20223 yr Only once has Chilwell managed more than 30 league games in a season. Not that that is reason enough but for sure chiller wont play every game.
August 2, 20223 yr I think the lad would give us options. Premier league proven, Better in a back 4 than Chilly, Can also do a job in dm, and is attacking enough for lwb if chilly is out. I do agree it leaves us slightly overloaded in the LB slot, but that isn't much of a concern. My big concern is only if we are signing him at the expense of another CB, CM or attacker. I see this as more of a squad building signing rather than the emergency surgery we currently, and will still, need.
August 2, 20223 yr If we can offload Sarr and Alonso (+ Emerson) in exchange I think we're far better off and recoup also a dollar or two.
August 2, 20223 yr Apparently we have agreed personal terms with him. Waiting for final agreement with Brighton. Let’s hope Barca stay away from this

We paid them same for Chilwell and I felt Cucurella looked far better at Brighton than Chilwell did at Leicester. Wan Bissaka went for 50m, Maguire for 80, Ben White for 50, Ake for 40 Buying from other prem clubs isn't cheap but Cucurella looked head and shoulders above all of them. I don't disagree, my point is more that there is always a premium for existing PL players. I agree he looked good. I am a little concerned that thus is on a one season showing but he is head and shoulders above (excuse the pun) most of our other left backs
August 2, 20223 yr Full agreement now reached between Chelsea and Cucurella on personal terms. Potential contract has been proposal approved, Marc’s prepared to accept once clubs agree on fee. 🚨🔵 #CFC Chelsea and Brighton in direct talks again today in order to complete the deal. FabrizoRomano
August 2, 20223 yr Wingback is the most important position in 3421, as we have seen in Tuchel and Conte's era. Last year our season pretty much ended on the night Chiwell gone off injured, at least we are in a better position this year if we manage to sign him. Alonso, Emerson could all be on their way after this signing, see that as a positive too,

Your first eleven is not want wins you things come the end of the season. It’s your depth in squad that does.
August 2, 20223 yr Wonder if people will still think it a good move when it happens and Colwill goes the other way as part of the deal. Permanently.

FabrizoRomano I'll believe it when I see him in the club's official photo holding a Chelsea shirt.

August 2, 20223 yr He is a top player, I know there are question marks about how this affects Chilwell, but with the wing back system, we need quality options as it vital to how we play. Chilwell isnt going to back at pre injury levels over night, Cucurella will start at wing back and Chilwell will be eased into things, and when he is back to his best, it will be a real fight between the 2. Cucurella also played left centre back for Brighton against us, and Spurs, so they could also share the same pitch times. Dont want to get too excited until he is holding up the shirt, but I think he would massively improve us, and it means we dont lose that dynamism when Alonso came into the team. Cucurella, Fofana, then maybe a look at another attacking option. Would be a fantastic summer tbh.

Maybe with a buyback clause, I prefer a loan but no permanent deal. Surely if he’s good enough his sealing won’t be brighton.

He's a very good player in his own right. 2. Has the capabilities to play LCB should we need it. 3. Chilwell clearly isn't fit and won't be for a few months as he lacks match sharpness. 4. Alonso wants to leave, should leave and hurts us more than people think in a 5ATB system. 5. There's nothing wrong with having fantastic squad depth. City do, Pool do. Why shouldn't we? 6. Our season fell apart when we lost our wingbacks last season so we need more than 1 top wingback on each side.

He was absolutely brilliant there against us last season I remember. Until Chilwell hits top form again he would obviously be our LWB but if Chilwell gets back to his best we could have a pretty formidable left side with Cucurella at LCB with Chilwell and Sterling ahead of him. Cucurella at LCB would certainly add another string to our bow offensively as well with his abilities on the ball and speed and tenacity.
