Multi-millionaire with access to the best language tutors for a period of 10 years and most of that fully immersed with the language around you. It’s a decade! But anyway. The Cucurella move was good and we’re seeing consistency from a setup point of view, so that’s all good. As Argo rightly stated, the pressure is off now, things were so bad.. they just couldn’t get any worse, the season had become a total write off. Back when the pitch forks were (rightly) out, I had personally accepted he’d be here another season, due to the managerial market and the state of things. Hoping for the best, expecting the Spursy.
May 15, 20242 yr Well in Poch. We're going from strength to strength. Would like him to stay. Need to make sure we win the next final we reach!
May 15, 20242 yr Assume we get another win on the weekend, he has done a good turn around and probably deserves another go next season. However, some of the things he said would have upset the ownership group, and they will take that into account during the end of season review. If they sense there's a chance to get another Brighton manager, I have the feeling they will. To play the critics role here, a good run towards the end after all it's lost is not the sole criteria he should be judged on. There were instances during the season where most have called him to be sacked, the huge loses away at Liverpool, United, Arsenal are just a few examples.
May 15, 20242 yr So does finishing 6th mean we start the Europa League qualification round 1 next week?
May 15, 20242 yr Deserves another season. The way we’ve finished the season has been very encouraging.

May 15, 20242 yr Knowing the owners and clowns in charge they will sack and go back to square one next season.
May 16, 20242 yr I’m okay with him staying another season but not fully convinced, he’ll need to do more to convince me such as starting the season well which is something we’ve struggled with under the last few managers. The arsenal game is also still in the back of my mind and I hope people don’t fall into a false sense of security by offering him a contract extension.

He has another year left on his contract, so let him honour it and we’ll see where we sit around the end of the calendar year. Edited May 16, 20242 yr by Jezz

From table since 1st Jan has us top 4 behind the top 3. It will be an epic disaster not extending it as the press will have a field day with non stop questions from day 1 next season.

If Poch does well at the start of next season he should want to stay. If he then gets us top 4 and wants to leave he's not the man for the job. We can offer him an extension when Champions league is assured.
May 16, 20242 yr Since the players appear to be well with Pochettino, we're with a shot of getting Europa and results-wise it appears to start going our way in the last 4 games, I'd say Pocchettino in, mostly because there's no better alternative out there. But, I don't think that last night's game at Brighton was an improvement on Forest performance, and we were overplayed by Brighton at many points in the second half (only their woeful finishing prevented them from getting back into the game earlier on in the second). I'm not convinced that he's a good manager. Let's see how it goes into next season and, most importantly, if players return from injuries or if they keep dropping like flies.
May 16, 20242 yr Amazing isn't it, as soon as I want the big man out, we go on to win 4 games in a row, maybe that was the trick all along?

This season was always going to be full of ups and downs when you factor in the horrendous injuries we've suffered to many key players. ALL managers suffer bad results at times, even more so with such a young, inexperienced squad. Don't get me wrong, there have been many games where I have questioned him and teetered on yes, he should be sacked, but he's come through that and for me has done more than enough to earn another season, as I just don't see any better candidates out there who are available and would come. And the way we are finishing this season, I am excited about next season.

Here is a 3 year contract, more money than you are on now" Bye.

It was a much better performance and we should have had about 4 or 5 goals if Jackson wasn't actively playing against us. If anything Brighton were lucky.

May 16, 20242 yr I'm really conflicted on this because there's so many variables. But when we were complete dogsh*t around the time of the Wolves loss I never expected that we'd be able to put together a run of games like this. My main issue was that we were seeing zero improvement, but I'd be lying if I said we haven't improved, it's obvious to see. I'm not confident of mounting a title challenge if he's our manager next season, but if we've showed big improvements and the players are backing him I'm not sure we can sack him as it might just destabilise the team. I suppose one positive is that he will be in the last year of his contract so I don't think we would be as hesitant to make a mid season change if needed given there will be a much lower payoff than this season. May 16, 20242 yr @benjacobs who is well sourced: ”Bit more on Chelsea's end-of-season review. It was pre-planned even before the first game of the season. Owners and Pochettino agreed to hold a summer appraisal at the midway point of Pochettino's guaranteed contract. There remains a strong chance Pochettino stays and that's been my understanding since April. This isn't just because of the excellent form to close the season. Pochettino has firm support from the dressing room and from multiple key board members. The whole season will be looked at, and qualifying for Europa League is seen as important. But so is the form since Boxing Day, positive feedback from players and the growing feeling stability this summer is the best recipe for success, especially given this is the last market in a four-window plan and it could be detrimental to acquiring key targets with managerial limbo. Two trips to Wembley and encouraging data-led indicators (such as big chances created) will all work in Pochettino's favour. Pochettino is expected to stress Chelsea need a striker and a centre-back and advocate for proven Premier League quality. It's clear he wants to keep Conor Gallagher, but a sale still can't be ruled out yet. It's understood Pochettino's role in the recruitment model is not expected to be enhanced if he stays. Chelsea want the review to be frank and have freedom to challenge. And there are denials the club has ever moved beyond normal succession planning. There is also an acceptance Pochettino has been hampered by injuries and is dealing with a squad that's still maturing. Plenty at Cobham think he's done a good job given the challenges. Nothing definitive has been communicated to Pochettino as of last night, but he has said he's already part of the pre-season planning. He has also now clarified he has no plans to walk away. The adjusted mid-season goal was Europa League qualification and Pochettino is on course to deliver that needing just a point against Bournemouth.” Edited May 16, 20242 yr by JM7
May 16, 20242 yr - Get a striker who at worst challenges Jackson - Get a top CB that can fill the void of Silva's influence. - Get a defensively strong LB, preferably one that can win aerial duels. - Sort out the injury issue. Honestly, do those 4 things and I think next season will be very optimistic.

We're very far away from a title challenge, you need to dial your expectations back. Top 4 should be the target next season. My problem with Pochettino is currently the defensive organisation, it's like nobody knows what they're doing when defending a set piece, Cucu was marking a 6'3 player yesterday. If Poch gets top 4 next season, he's done his job as far as I'm concerned. Nobody who wanted him here (including myself) ever said he was the man to win us trophies, but he can at least get us on the right path. He finished top 4 with Tottenham consistently, baby steps, give 2-3 years from now and we'll see where we are in terms of challenging.
