Welcome Danny Drinkwater. Our third DD, if he proves as good as previous two, I'll be very happy.

What a terrible thread name though  :face_palm:

Didier Deschamps. Sure there be more as well.

I think this signing means we won't be seeing Fabregas played in a midfield two again any time soon.

Gives us the option of playing a 3 man midfield like we did against Spurs, could be something we'll see against rival opposition to try and not get overrun in the middle.

Given that players like Barkley and Oxlade-Chamberlain who are were in the last 12 months of their contracts were costing £35m I don't think we've necessarily over paid.

Good signing in my eyes, hopefully he can rekindle that partnership with Kante.

Good luck to him, incredibly sad to see someone go who started the incredible journey we've had. Even more so when they are one of the 5 players who were always a level above the rest.

Is you worry about the fee, look at it this way... you got Kante for about £35m less than he was worth in this Market. So you've got two for one.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Oh no, how could I overlook Deschamps?!

So we have him, Drogba and Duff. Anybody else I've shamefully omitted?

At least he's a player who wanted to join us, not many others did, could be a good singing

na i think he is pretty dope thou. Conte for sure can get the best out of him.

Gives us depth, options for different formation and imho only players like Kroos or Modric would really improve the squad.

yeah Drinkwater is a good addition.

Donald Duck almost signed in the 50's  No one else we have a few CC's though.

I think he's going to surprise us all and be a quality player for us.

I don't think he'll be another Sidwell or Parker, perhaps more like Ramires or Meireles considering their contribution to the team.

Looking forward to seeing him! There's something really nice about having an English player who isn't a youth prospect.

I like this signing. A good old fashioned work horse. He will add a bit of steel to our team. Tackles galore.

Also, to me he represents the type of player from the mid 2000s that we would have signed - a mature combative type player. Just what we need.

Finally, I'm glad its not someone like Barkley, or another lazy player. The more workhorses we have in our team, the more it will be a positive influence on others, as well as releasing our most creatives to attack more and bang in a few extra goals.

This is a huge opportunity for DD and I am sure he will be so keen to make a good impression. Better that than some mercenary who is lazy and has an ego problem.

Honestly, he's so much more than that and he will suit your style down to the ground. He's a very forward thinking player, not a DM by any stretch, always looking up and forward and not the sort of player who just passes back to the defence 100 times a game.

A real box to box player who can do a bit of everything. Good vision, good at passing. Ignore the passing stats here, that's to do with our style of play... Kante was no different here and his stats are fine now. DD is a far superior passer than Kante as well.

His shooting does let him down at times, but the fact he's won goal of the season two or three times (can't remember exactly) in the last 4 tells you he's more than capable.

Fair play! even better if thats the case..

I think its pretty poor just how underrated he has been on this forum, he is a very good player and will be an excellent addition to our squad. He reminds me of a Ballack type of player, a continuity style who is always available for the pass and always looks to play it forward. He obviously compliments Kante very well in midfield, and if they can get that going again here I think he will be looked on as a similar signing to Alonso by the end of the season.

Not just this forum. For a title winner, he's been slated by pretty much every fanbase except Leicester fans.

I'd liken him to Wisey personally. Able to get around the pitch, put a tackle in and like Dennis a better footballer than many thought till they viewed him up close

You know what, you're bang on with that, Wise is a great shout mate. If he turns out half as good for us as Dennis did then happy days....Just make sure we get Danny a chauffeur, no taxi`s...

I must admit I don't mind this signing at all. I was a massive critic of Matic over the last season or so, therefore it would be hypocritical of me to bemoan him leaving. Baka for me looks a lot like Pogab/Viera in his manner and style. I would settle for that. Drinkwater will also add more to our midfield as well and will give us a solid base.  Let's not forget we have also got Luiz who plays a bloody good DM or CM role. The more players we have around that allow for Fabregas to dictate play as an AM with that wand of a foot, I'm all for it.
