Man City Vs Chelsea (PL) Sun 04 Mar 2018 16:00 UK

The annoying thing is Chelsea should be head and shoulders above the premier league teams. Best youth in the country. And with players like hazard, lukaku, Salah, de bruyne, cuadrado in the squad we could do anything. Bought a world class cb to replace Terry and this team would win everything. Wouldn't even cost alot of money

Just seen a clip from the game, players walking around, barely moving at all, whilst city pass it around, camera cuts to Fabregas who'd rather stroke his beard than close down Silva, sums it all up, I'm just done with most of these players now, downing tools like two years ago, most can leave as far as I'm concerned.

Despite losing to both Manchester Teams away,  i am disappointed as the rest of you but I remain optomistic about this squad and the manager, I think we have a great foundation to build on. I hope Conte is given the chance but I think they will reach an agreement at the end of the season.

But this is still a fine premiership winning squad and a great club we can do it again we did, less than a year ago.

Come on you blue boys, everything to play for! Stop  either Liverpool, Spertz or Man Utd getting into champions league would make my season !

As much as I admire your optimism, try as I might I just can't share it.  Our collapse in form in the last 2 -3 months is alarming and it will take a near miracle to gain a top 4 place this season at this rate.

It just feels as though there is a toxic atmosphere running through the club ( again ) and Conte has to share some of the blame for that.

Except I can't see us winning the league again in the next few years, not with City going from strength to strength .

Made even more difficult by the likely departure of Hazard.

I don't think I've ever seen a Chelsea side play with so little fight.

1-0 down with 20 minutes to go I just wanted the ref to blow his whistle, because we were never going to get a point, I literally had zero hope, and I've never felt that before 1-0 down, no matter how poorly we were playing, and no matter the quality of the opposition.

There's always a part of you that feels you can nick one. Today? Nada.

On a scale of 1-10, Pedro was Bakayokoatwatford. We had about 5 opportunities all game to put their defence under pressure, and his ineptitude cocked up every single one. He was no better when he came on as sub last weekend.

Today's game gets worse the more I waste time thinking about it.

"Toxic atmosphere" .... We are struggling for a bit of form against clubs who make us blush for resources. The damage was done against West Ham , Bournmouth and Burnley and the likes (all due respect to those clubs, well, except the Pikeys). Toxic Atmosphere sounds like press talk.

Its a tough season compared to last, but miles better than the season before.... its a problem but not a massive one. Like I said in my original post we have all to play for. Wouldn't love to dispose of the one of those teams in the top four at the moment ?.... don't you believe the reigning champions can ?   I do.

I think it's safe to say that City are a better team than us this season but the difference is not so great to excuse the sorry performance today. I can understand why we started out with the formation and players that we did. We were obviously trying to emulate the performance against Barcelona, and by doing so it would give us a decent chance of nicking a win. But I don't understand what was so different this time, and also why, after City got their goal, we persisted for so long with the same dysfunctional game plan despite having nothing left to lose. I really don't know what Conte was hoping would happen. Then, when the changes eventually came, they were baffling. I don't understand why Willian, who was probably the best player in the league last month, went off instead of Pedro. And then there's the bizarre substitution of Hazard in the last couple of minutes. Was Conte trying to make a point? f**k knows, but it made no sense from a footballing perspective.

So my reaction today is one of total confusion. I don't buy any of the bullsh*t about Conte deliberately trying to get sacked - the starting line-up and tactics at least made sense - but I'd love to know what his thought process was when it was clear that his game plan wasn't working.

I agree BlueDave about your point on Conte trying to get sacked. I’m sure in managers contracts that if things are going so bad that the manager/coach wouldn’t get payed out due to him not achieving results and management decisions of the squad.

This. No one gives a solitary f**k. That bit with Fabregas had me call him every name under the sun. An embarrassment. He, and a lot of the starting 11 can f**k off now.

I’ve backed Conte, up until January, today was disgraceful from the man.

Just watched MOTD some comments:

Cesc almost cost us a goal passing backwards in the penalty area.

City were doubling up on Willian to stop him breaking and I noticed they snapped on his first big touch to get us up the pitch.

Pep said afterwards they analyse all their opponents, kind of surprised me thinking they were so confident of their own style yet this explains Willian being less effective.

Once again no replaying of a foul on a Chelsea player with studs up which could easily have been a Red.

Moses got a good break on the right he looked to cross and no-one was there, one more touch and as he went to cross he was tackled, I only mention that as earlier he got a lot of stick.

No blame  from me attributed to the players yes a defensive mistake yet it looked like they were all trying.

My main gripe is once again Conte is clueless with the timing of the subs and the late sub with Morata with time running out...................:Connie_threaten:

I don't buy that the players weren't trying. It looked to me like they'd stuck to the manager's plan but lost faith in the tactics and were hoping for Conte to change things.

Also, we looked mentally knackered from defending all game. No matter that we went into the game fresher, we were chasing shadows most of the game.

I gave this a pass because I somehow knew what was coming. After Conte's comments during the pre-match press conference, you could see he had essentially given up. What a sad state of affairs. It all went so well last year. Why do we always do this to ourselves? Why can't we build on success? Why do we continously have to rebuild? I think we are throwing away money by doing this over and over again. If the club doesn't learn, we may go into a slump that would become difficult to come out of.

Conte has been frustrated since the start of the season. Why couldn't the club work out something amicable with him? You either support him or let him go before the season starts. It's just bizarre that it appears the club buys players without any input from the manager. We spent a fortune and ended up being worse than last season. That takes some doing.  However, I don't think Conte is blameless either. been mouthing off way too much for my liking. No matter how unhappy he is, he should have toned down his comments. I honestly don't know where we will go from here. It's time for the board to earn their money.

Par for the MotD course.

Gundogan also caught Hazard with his studs high up on his shin early in the second half. Hazard stayed down for a while afterwards. It was an incredible incident because Gundogan was the second City player to foul in IN THE SAME CHALLENGE. Again, the commentators barely made a mention of it.

City are an amazing team but they are a dirty, cynical bunch who get away with a hell of a lot. Opponents have very little time on the ball, and one of the reasons for that is the speed of the closing down and the frequency of the fouling. They had 71% possession, so well over twice as much as we had, but we fouled them 9  times and they they fouled us 8 times. (Actually it was a fair bit more than that as Oliver had a shocker and let them foul us with impunity - the one on Willian on the edge of the box and the off the ball elbow on Hazard, both by Otamendi, being just two examples).

Not been home long from an all day trip to manachester...what a disgusting, embarrassing display...unworthy of champions...this is quickly turning into 2015-16 all over again...unlike back then, conte may see season out and it looks like we will get europa league, but looks like love of the game has evaporated from conte and the players...ashamed to be a chelsea fan sunday - the whole nation watched us surrenderwithout a fight...inexcusable

The plan stuttered because, with a midfield duo of Fabregas and Drinkwater up against Silva and De Bruyne, it was inevitable that we weren't going to go toe to toe. Why? Because Fabregas isn't, by a million miles, N'Golo Kante. With Kante's drive, energy and anticipation in the tackle, it could have been so different as he would have put them under pressure, forced mistakes and set up the counter. Alas, he was lying on his back in the team coach. Very disappointed in Conte's inactivity when we went 1-0 down. Giving Giroud only 20 odd minutes to test their back line was bad enough but, Morata's last minute entrance was ridiculous.

yeah. i think there's only so much they can do, and it isn't like we weren't trying when we were going forward. maybe sloppy passing and decision making in the final third was an issue, but i can't blame the players if once again the tactics were to go to city to set up to not play.

I still am pretty pissed about yesterday. I was pacing the living room, stomping my feet at times and felt like throwing something. It is bloody frustrating as a fan watching it when you know you can't do anything. I thought it would be difficult to come away with something, but we could have done something if changes were made and we were more positive going into the game.
