Jorginho is.... (well now was) a Blue

Featured Replies

Poor under Sarri, improved under Lampard but i still don't see the effects of his game. He lacks assist for a deep lying player maker. Gets a few goals but most through penalties. Lampard rates him very highly but i just don't see it.

I think Jorginho's fans just like to say and write the word regista, and who can blame them, it sounds awesome. I just don't understand why our deep lying playmaker regularly concedes possession when pressed in our own half, is that also a part of being a regista, because it happens so much recently I wish we'd stop with that playmaking business altogether.

Positives. He's experienced, seems well-liked and respected in the dressing room, good at short passing when given time on the ball, and can occasionally pick a quality long pass, although for my taste, nowhere near often enough, given the position he's playing. And he's good at penalties.

Negatives: slow, lightweight, gets knocked off the ball too easily. Has trouble getting away from the press, concedes possession far too many times and regularly in his own half. Not the best tackler and doesn't cover near enough ground to protect the back four. Can't dribble. Not an attacking threat, apart from penalties, rarely shoots, let alone scores from an open play.

Now, his fans would say that in the right setup, surrounded by players with certain characteristics, Jorginho can be far more effective and his shortcomings wouldn't be so obvious and detrimental to the team and perhaps they're right. But unless we're building a side for that particular brand of football, what's the point of having such a player and do his strengths outweigh his flaws and limitations in this scenario?

You should realise how well he was playing during his first PL season though. Look at his stats and find me a few better players that are playing his same position if you can, I doubt you will find that many that could do what he has been doing in the PL, I already put up some of his stats from this season just a page ago here are from the previous season:

Lampard isn't stupid.

Everyone likes the word 'regista' because it makes them think of Andrea Pirlo.

When you have a player who possesses the kind of genius that Pirlo had, the kind which can win a game alone, the kind which is genre-defining, you accept a certain defensive laxity in exchange for it. The same applied to Fabregas. These are players who are worth protecting, who are worth building your team around, who are capable of being the creative fulcrum of a top side.

Did you ever see that Simpsons Hallowe'en special where Bart fed the dog and the cat into the DNA mixer? The first creature which came out was [in the mind of a child] the best of both worlds: a creature with the heads of both the cat and the dog. The second creature, theoretically the worst of both, was just the two arses

Jorginho is basically this - the physicality of Pirlo and the lack of attacking ambition of Mikel. But say the word 'regista' and the generation of kids who were raised on WhoScored stats and the occasional nostalgic Twitter post will cream themselves over the memory of something they never knew.

So what you're saying is that Jorginho is the cat's ass?  High praise indeed!

Lmao that's pretty f**king accurate I'll give you that

he will be out for the next two league fixtures after his 10th yellow.. With Kante out injured aswell, interesting to see who plays in the deeper role between Billy and Barkley. My money is on Billy starting considering how SFL has approached it.

I wish we had bought Bruno Fernandes. He's not a striker, but would have offered us more than Jorginho. I like Jorginho, but he isn't going to win us games or influence games much for us.

I think it will be Barkley rather than Gilmour.

Supposedly the first player in English football history to be suspended from the league and Champions' League at the same time.

I'm so proud! If it wasn't for the FA Cup, he'd get a good rest.

Well to be fair, according to some people here he's totally not needed so without him we should win easy against Everton if they are right.

I am interested in seeing how we play without him as most seem to think he doesn't offer much

If we beat Everton without him can you give your Jorginho love fest a rest for a week? I like Jorgy but the way you go on and on (and on) is starting to make me feel ill... :laugh2:

If selected I will be interested to see how Gilmour does.

With Kante injured and Jorginho banned Frank has a few options.

For one in the current system he could simply pick Barkley to slot in with Kova. Or he could put James there as James played there for Wigan.

Or we could go to a 3 man middle with Kova sitting for Barkely/Mount/Willian/RLC.

Not a forgone conclusion Gilmour gets a chance. Hope he does though.

I think Jorginho is being given a lot of stick from fans and I think it is undeserved, It seems like whenever we go through a rough phase he is usually the first one to get the blame. The reason he gets the blame is because he tends to take the responsibility a lot more than a few of the others in the squad, he is always there assisting the defenders to play out from the back, he is not afraid to put in professional foul to break up play. He is one of very few leaders in the whole squad and the amount of criticism he gets is unjustified, we've got a long line of players who should be questioned about there role this season and Jorginho is definitely not at the front of it.
