You just couldn't wait, could you? Mount is a quality young player who defintely has a place in this team. I'm really getting sick to death of all the unnecessary criticism he's been getting.

I saw nothing to suggest that the outcome wouldn't have been the same had Mount played. 

Mason scores his first goal and brings the win for England against Belgium.

 

Deflection or not, happy for him, not playing in his best position by any means. 

Seems like Southgate loves Mason as much as Lamps does, he's been using him to deflect any questions about Grealish. Maybe his personality has a lot to do with it, sweet kid that's easy to mould.
Hopefully he doesn't get overused by both managers though or it could be a short career for him.

Great player. We often forget his young he is given how many games he has played. His 7 (I think) goals last season were up there with Willians better seasons (of his 7 seasons)!

that said he does get some stick. Not deserved. Managers must see a lot more off the ball than we are able to see on tv. 

I know many feel he is best suited as a no.8 in a 433, and LW or RW does not bring out his best. It does give us a high positional and high energy press, but not quite enough going forward. 
 

Question - we have issues with the two man midfield. Could Mount hold down one of the two deeper midfield places in a 4231, or is he too attack minded?

i dont think physically he is strong enough or experienced enough to use his body when under pressure.. that is also the reason he rarely comes deep to collect the ball.. ,pre than anything this is one area where he needs to improve for me.. he does get shrugged off the ball quite easily at times..

I think Mount has been terrific to date for Frank though now the specialist front players are fit again Mount either needs to drop to the bench or find a new role in defensive midfield. 

The only factor we don't know is how much he gets picked for his work rate in pressing the other team.  This is the factor why I always thought Willian got picked too.

We have our specialist players all sorted, I think if we are playing 433 then hw can start as part of the midfield 3, but if we are doing 4231 he simply just doesnt fit in. I dont see what the issue is with bringing him on as a sub is? Hes still young and will get plenty of chances, just shouldnt be starting atm

I agree about the sub, though again I don't think either Pulisic or Ziyech is match fit yet.

I also agree that Mount should not be in the front 4 or 3 players once all are fit.

Excellent return to the side in his best position. Havertz and Mount have a nice balsnce between them, and with kante sitting deeper, it is all looking rather rosy!

Really good today, looked so much better in that role.

Really good, especially in the first half, very impressed with is long range passing in those 45 minutes.

Kante and Mount are the key to unlocking Havertz potential, who now has more freedom to wander without harming us without the ball.

Great player. Much prefer him in midfield. 

Has always been an 8 ever since he was a kid. He should always be played as an 8. Anything else is just like putting Ronaldo on CB
