Kai Havertz

Now I've just read this"Chelsea have decided they will only sign Kai Havertz this summer for a fee that suits them, according to European football expert Gabriele Marcotti."what the hell is going on.

What's going on is that someone pretends to be in the know and posts some clickbait.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle... do I think Chelsea is just working on Kai and figuring out the rest after? No. Do I think they are down the line negotiating final details on more than one deal? No.

at this stage most of the details are worked out on Kai, sure they are negotiating final price with BL, however I would guarantee they have a good idea what the final cost will be +/- 5M, so they are probably doing due diligence on other candidates too, calling around and seeing who might be available, who other teams may want to buy, etc. my guess is after Kai the next thing we hear about is a sale, rumor has it that the rest of the buys this window will be dependent on who else gets sold and for how much.

In reality how much time would someone spend on a daily basis negotiating a transfer?  I'd be very surprised if Marina has spent every waking hour of the last month planing negotiations/talking with Leverkusen and nothing else.  Surely it's just a few hours planning - send offer - wait a few days for a reply - do a few sums - send back counter offer - wait etc.  Isn't keeping each other waiting and not seeming too keen part of the game.  It's not like they're locked in a room together until the transfer is resolved.  Just chill its going to happen and we will sign other players, this is going to be one of our greatest transfer windows, enjoy it.

Marcotti knows nothing. He’s a bumbling idiot. Every other sentence is a guess, and everything else is his opinion.

If I can buy that car for a price that suits me then I'll buy it....

If I can buy that Havertz for a fee that suits Chelsea FC we will buy him....

Isn't that how everybody shops?

Sometimes I think I should open a new Twitter account, create a professional looking bio and call myself a journalist, then just make up loads of plausible sounding transfer rumours with plenty of 'hot takes'. That's basically what the others are doing, isn't it?

Yeah I often trick myself into thinking they're literally locked in a room hashing it out the whole time. I'd be quite interested to know how the communication goes though. In person or via phone or email.

Theirs that much smoke you can't see the fire. I'm thinking this deal is almost done and only the add on's are being tweaked.

This is the most likely thing, we won't offer anything till all the details have been worked out with Leverkusen and Kai's agent and so on.

The moment I'm waiting for is the reports of Kai taking a flight, then we will know that he's coming just to write his signature on all of the papers, that point should be very close now...

Thats what I thought, its a completely meaningless load of rubbish.

Marcotti is a great student of the game and understands the politics, culture and business side better than most and writes about it very well. But that doesn’t make him an expert on rumor rating as his comments about Havertz prove.

Agreed, and if you watch ESPN all Marcoti does is praise Chelsea to the nines. What he basically meant by his comment is Chelsea will not be conned and will make sure they get a deal that also suit thems, and half of.you guys are having a panic attack and calling him an idiot.

Hes been around for so many years, as a respected journalist, and as someone who bigs us up on every interview ive seen on him, and when he made the comments he wasent pretending he had insider info, he was saying we will make sure the deal suits us. It really is laughable seeing peoples comments on here. Just relax, im sure the havertz deal will be sorted out soon.

I like Marcotti. He doesn't slag us off like the rest. I think he meant it in a way that Marina and co. will try to get the price something that is more feasible for us. For someone so young but haven't won any trophies yet, 100m is a tad too expensive

Werner, Ziyech, Mbuyamba, Havertz + LB(Chilwell/Reguilon) is maybe the best transfer window since 05/06 no? If we get a bonus keeper or CB we can compare it to 04/05 even...

With Mbuyamba signing i can see the logic in the Silva interest, a good leadership presence and with him approaching retirement it won't stunt the youngsters growth!

Gotta get a goal keeper, thats a must! i know we all want rid of Kepa, but i can't see it happening, maybe we need an upgrade on Willy, a bit of competition for Kepa may spark him into life, if not at least we have someone half decent.

I can see our three keepers being Kepa, Ben Foster and Willy ...

Probably like buying a car...kick a few tires, check what's under the bonnet, tell the dealer your looking elsewhere and then point out all the faults and agree a price.

I know I've been wrong on certain transfers in the past but I really wouldn't worry with this one. Bookies have us 1/20. Most actual reliable journalists seem to think it will happen.

Problem is once you get to an agreement they start adding little hidden extras like paint protection and road tax.  We've probably asked for the carbon effect boots to be thrown in, the salesman's told us he needs to speak to the manager and left us waiting at the desk.

Going to be tough to beat 04/05 when we signed 3 of our greatest players of all time in Drogba, Cech and Carvalho. Not to mention Robben and Ferreira as well!

But if these players live upto the hype, then its definitely one of the best ever

This thread is already longer then some of our own current player’s thread lol
Last time we tried to buy a world class talent? This has been sort of semi-public for a while also.
